@Eeze, as always, dope video. Salute on yet another year of great hip hop commentary. You're one of my most viewed channels. On to the topics. Far as things to leave in 2024, yeah, the "sales" talk, especially in this digital streaming era, is old-hat. We just witnessed the guy, Drake, who sits atop all these metrics, get his hat handed to him by a superior lyricist and artist, KDot. Using sales as a barometer for how dope the music is should be left to casuals, not actual fans of hip hop. Til this day, I couldn't tell you what my fave albums (Death Certificate, Only Built 4 Cuban Linx) sold or didn't sell. And guess what? I don't care lol. Q-Tip and Pete Rock, indeed, had great years. They both were at the helm of 2 of my top 10 projects this year. Would be dope to see other veteran producers like Large Professor, Dj Battlecat or Nottz produce entire projects for veteran artists next year.

I appreciate you fam! Yes I would love to see more producers produce entire projects. Battle cat is so talented, I would hope he could link with a hybrid artist who can sing, rap and write.

Kendrick sold 100k for 4 weeks straight. 3 weeks of that ALL 12 songs top 100 even with Christmas. The songs didnt just come & go. Its crazy ppl STILL don't want to give him his flowers.

Thank you for this video. Throughout HipHop history, there were a lot of groundbreaking artist that did not sell a lot of records. The did change the course of Rapping and Music as a whole. Give up the Goods is one of my favorite Qtip Productions. Pete Rock had an amazing year. I think this definitely move him up the ranks of Greatest producer. He is definitely one of the greatest. Thanks for the awards. I am going to check out Masta Ace, Skyzoo, and School Boy Q. I heard that Roc Marciano album is fire too.

I'm so here for the record sales take. As a society, we've gotten so addicted to clout, the art no longer matters. It's all about who can give the most para-social clout.
@BklynZu21 күн бұрын
Well rap is a young mans game was created by the pioneers they was calling certain rappers & certain sounds ol' skool before it was actually old so hip-hop did that to itself from the beginning
@Eeze21 күн бұрын
This is fact! Which is why I made it a point to state Hip-Hop isn’t even old enough to be making those distinctions. What is old?
@BklynZu21 күн бұрын
@Eeze that's the truth now hip hop reached this milestone there's no age limits on emcees and I'm glad Common Pete Rock and LL proved that this year
@OliviaFrancis-ib4cj18 күн бұрын
@@Eeze absolutely. When you look at other genres of music the legends are embraced, not cast aside. They still tour, drawing big crowds, for example punk, rock etc. Furthermore, we the ppl have realised, their presence in hip hop is greatly needed to ensure the cultural thread remains and to pass on knowledge; otherwise these new young ppl have no real time connection 2 the history, making it easy 4 them 2 allow the art to be watered down & ultimately taken over. Continued contribution and stewardship is how you age in hip hop, we’re now all learning. For the legends It’s no longer about money, it’s for the love of the art and culture. They’re the stewards of this shit, or supposed to be the stewards of it not us, they can’t just disappear lol or it all falls to shit amid this money grabbing culture stealing society 😅

Blue lips wasn’t cohesive…..a lot of tracks but no clear theme or strong takeaways. I guess relevance is what I’d say it lacked for me. Top 3 though for me, behind Common and Kendrick.

Another narrative that should be buried is the PLAYA/HATER foolishness. Back in the day, the worst thing to be called was a SELLOUT. Diddy responds by calling people haters and it stuck. Throughout the past year, we all saw how much of a "playa" Diddy truly was, and all the "haters" turned out to be right all along. The playa/hater shit started with Diddy, and now that he got sent upstate, it should end with him.

I dream about 2025 being the end of "Hip Hop = hits, money, fame" and coming back to the Culture with a major C. I dream about NYC looking at what happened to the West Coast in 2024 (not only Dot but also Tyler, ScHoolboy Q, Ab-Soul,...) as an example and resurecting too. NYC can't stay this shitty drill and Ice Spice bullshit. I have great hopes for 2025 in female rap with the coming of artists like Doechii and the come back of Rapsody. Finally something else than these "strippers with a mic" bullshit.

I'm sorry but I don't know if I want to hear a Nas album solely produced by DJ Premier in 2025. Nas will be great as usual, but can Preemo bring anything modern to the table? I Don't want to hear any new songs with a scratch hook

I think Kendrick lamer and Lupe Fiasco brought the game be to where it needed to be. Especially Kendrick lamer because now you gotta get back in the studio. All these other niggas falling off real lyricism is making a comeback.

Lupe? No one is even talking about Lupe right now.😂
@traviscarter102320 күн бұрын
@imsofocused4678 Real heads are talking about him. He dropped that dope ass Samurai project late June. That album just lyricism alone is 4.25mic project. It's up there with top tier projects of the year.

Some of the best Hip-Hop, Rock, Blues, Jazz, and Reggae albums of 2024 came from artists over 50. Shit in other genres this year some of those artists and bands were over 70 years old!
