Someone (presumably) from Idaho posted on Reddit that there is a local Nez Perce legend about an evil witch woman who shapeshifts into a bobcat or a cougar. Legend has it that the witch needs to sacrifice humans in order to maintain her immortality, and will therefore lure people onto the canyon trails of the Snake and Salmon Rivers for this purpose. She is reportedly seen by the occasional firefighter because she creates natural disasters in order to bring responders into the woods. This story obviously has its roots in Idaho native folklore, and I find it fascinating. As for all the comments about the normalcy of bobcats to scream like a woman- sure, but is it normal for a woman to then scurry up the exact same tree and scream in the exact same fashion to the exact same person shortly afterward? Definitely not, so…super creepy story, imo!

The "Bob" story actually sounds almost identical to the Bob Gimlin story.(of the Patterson and Gimlin bigfoot footage) It's about finding an abandoned, torn up camp. A few details differ but it's surprisingly close. He supposedly took video of it all complete with large footprints everywhere. He reported it, and everything took a 'strange, dark , and mysterious' turn after that with the camp swept clean, a hacked computer, missing video, and men in black SUV's without ID. Are abandoned, torn up camps all that common? If so, be more Bob than Bob, see nothing, say nothing, RUN away, and don't look back! 🫣🫢🤫👣👀

@nyxitylee20942 жыл бұрын
This doesn't surprise me. Domesticated humans. So many of us have lived in "civilized society" for so long a lot of our primal instincts have definitely lessened to the point that they are complacent. It is pretty much similar to looking at a domesticated dog or cat. Since their domesticated lifestyles have existed for such a short time span compared to us, they have retained a great deal of their feral instincts. The amount retained, of course varies, as dogs and cats are just as individual as humans. Sadly there are humans who take in animals, but when in a situation where they can no longer care for said animal or do not even care at all for said animal... they will simply drop the domesticated animal off in the wild, believing their survival instincts will kick in and they will be able to fend for themselves just fine. Some of these animals do and some of these animals do not.

"Monkey-like" is actually the perfect description for how she searched through that bag. I dated a girl in high school whose family literally had a capuchin monkey for a pet...if we are being honest, that monkey is why I stayed with her longer than I definitely should have. Every time I came over, I'd get the monkey out of the cage and he would automatically start going through my pockets, looking at everything for a split second and throw it over his shoulder...it was great comedy. I once got to be the freaky person in the woods. I was in high school and went to a private school where the history teacher was super into civil war history. She took a bunch of us on a trip to the middle of nowhere and we had our own camp reenactment for a long weekend. We all wore impressive replica uniforms, carried long guns, built a log gate around our camp, and marched in formation. It was a lot of fun. Halfway through our trip, our teacher was expecting some of her friends who would be playing the part of the confederates (yes, all students were union, because of course). Some folks came walking up our trail, so my teacher decides to impress the by having us march to the gate to meet them. Except, these weren't her friends. They were a couple of random hikers who stumbled upon us by accident. They saw this group of old time uniformed and armed "soldiers" coming to them and these poor people turned on their heels and bolted. We never saw them again, and assumed from then on, we would be their terrifying encounter.

I was doing field work in a woodland some years ago and was happily bimbling along carrying a ladder (the field work involved checking nest boxes so we need ladders to access these boxes and check on nests) when I suddenly realised I had walked out into a bit of clearing and there were all these people sitting around, dressed in medieval-type costumes. There was a camera and they seemed to be filming. I was so surprised and felt so self-conscious that I just walked right through the middle of the group with my head down. None of us spoke. It was awkward! I don't know why I didn't just say something like "Oh! Hi! Sorry to disturb you, don't mind me". But nope, I chose awkward silence...and so did they 😅. I sometimes wonder if they got me on camera and had a laugh about it later. It was so strange! I guess they were strange to me and I was strange to them 😆.

This reminds me of the time when me and a bunch of buddies were out in the woods LARPing, and we were taking a break from filming some epic medieval battle scenes in this clearing. I shit you not, a fucking ghost just appears from the treeline, carrying a ladder and walked right through the middle of our group, just staring at the ground. We all shut up, waited for it to pass, then got the hell out of there… A short while up the trail, as we’re trying to get back to where we left our vehicles, I shit you not, an entire platoon of Union Soldier ghosts from the Civil war began approaching us through the trees… We turned our dragon slaying asses around and got the hell outta there!!! I still don’t LARP to this day..

I had a very similar experience in the first story. I was camping on a lake campsite in the mountains in California. Anyways I heard a huge ruckus outside my tent at about 1 am and I figured a black bear or something so I was going to scare it away with a loud bang from my rifle. I open the tent with my head light. And there was a naked lady throwing all our stuff around the campsite and me and my buddy try to help her and she went like feral trying to attack us and she was abnormally strong for her size, I was able to hold her down with a blanket around her saying it's okay and that my buddy is getting the rangers, he jumped in my truck and came back with rangers and some emts. Turned out she was on synthetic meth and she felt hot even though it was freezing out and she was having a horrible trip, ripped her clothes off and ran through to our camp site. Weird as hell.

The brain has a tendency to convince itself that everything is fine, it takes quite a lot for the brain to be convinced it's in danger and even more to get the nerve to escape and leave. Often times, this tendency kills people. It's unfortunate, but most people won't run just because something slightly odd happens, that's too extreme of a reaction for something so inconsequential that most people will simply stay put. A perimeter wire is always a good idea when camping off the beaten trail. The best material is thin, braided stainless-steel cable, repeated at different heights and distances from camp. Most animals will take off as soon as they hear anything associated with humans. If you hear the next wire in, chamber your weapon. The animal to be most wary of is the human stranger.

Dogs will hear steps before any human. Dogs would never ignore any animal or human. And dogs are always act as a pack. Also dogs don't have a good vision. So the story makes no sense.

The second story, I've camped those woods! Had a very similar experience! It's like the wall between the Here and the There is really thin there. Like theres people who are there who aren't there at the same time. And they're aware of us just like we are aware of them. Its weird.

I'm an oregonian born and raised, there is some creepy shit in our woods, things you can't explain my father is an experienced outdoorsman and taught me everything I know. Never go alone, if you do make sure people know exactly where you are going to be and when you should be back. Always have at least a handgun if not something heavier, sleep light. Know how to spot fresh sign. Lastly have a plan if you suddenly need to leave, day or night make sure you've got water and food in your car if you need to hide for the night or be ready to be able to break camp at a moment's notice during the day.

@josiahreed85484 жыл бұрын
@history at war there are several encounters with things we couldn't explain, one of my personal favorites to tell is when we were driving along nice and slow waaaay up in the mountains grouse hunting. His side view mirrors were a good 6 feet off the ground at this time. And we are just moving real slow when we notice the driver's side mirror is fogging up abruptly and then clearing off, again and again like something was breathing on it. So we both grab our shot guns and put them in our laps. Then we rolled down the back window of the cab and he peeked out to make sure it wasn't a bear or giant cougar or something ( I was still pretty young at the time so he told me to stay inside). And there was nothing there he said. So for awhile after that it stopped until about 2 hours later it started happening again. This time we could smell something kinda musky and like rot. We again stopped and peaked but didn't see anything. My father always wrote it off as a huge cougar stalking us, but it just never felt right ya know. There was another time when I was 15 or 16 when we went camping out in the desert about 2-3 hours east of john day. We were antelope hunting in this place known as the hog flats when it starting getting dark. That nights was to get about 10 below and we had minimal equipment with us. So we start trying to head back to our truck when the sun finally disappeared. We had 3 lights (2 headlamps and a mag light). So we realize that we are lost at this point, we are still in the hog flats, each of which is broken up by a small line of trees so when your in 1 you can't really see into the next. So we make "camp" by digging a shallow hole and making a fire then wrapping ourselves in a tarp back to back to conserve body heat. So as we are sitting there to cold to sleep we starting hearing stuff moving in the distance. Mind you up to this point there and been dead silence so we instantly took note. And in the night we could hear crunching and what sounded like murmers, ya know whispering and all that. And we just sat there and listened cause we didn't want to leave the warmth of the fire or get out of the tarp and get colder than we already were. So we sit there listening for hours till day break. We break down our "camp" and head straight for where we think the truck is as soon as it's light. We get there a few hours later tired and dehydrated and head back to camp. Now that's weird enough as it is, but this next part freaked me out. We get back to camp and J go straight to sleep after eating some cold canned spaghetti. I black out right away but my dad lays around for a bit now I apparently woke up and responded to this but have no memory, but he swears up and down to this day that he heard what must have been a bear, walking around on it's hind legs for one reason or another. And he started telling it to "leave" and "go away bear". We've got black bears so this is normally fine to spooky them, but this one didn't spooky right away, it sniffed the tent and even opened the car door (which I believe cause the paint was fucked and the door was open when I finally woke up). Eventually after he racked his 12 guage and screamed at the top of his lungs it slowly walked away again still sounding like it was on 2 legs. I was thoroughly freaked out after hearing this from him after I woke up, apparently I responded to him when he told me I have to deal with the next one even though I don't recall that. Lastly this is just a story in the family idk if really believe it or not, but the story goes that my grandpa's mom, was in a bar in the middle of god knows where arizona. And she has a few drinks and asks the bar tender if she can use their phone to call her husband to come get her. She does this and goes outside to wait, when a nicely dressed man comes around the corner and offers to give her a ride, she declined thinking this man was very strange, his face was a but took long and his eyes didn't seem right. We believe a lot of native folklore and we use all of what we kill, we've even traded hides before. And she goes "I know what you are, leave". He smiles a wicked smile as his face contorts, and the story ends with him just walking off into the woods and seemingly disappearing into the brush, we always call this story "The deer headed man". (I dunno about this one just thought it was interesting)

I know I will get picked on for believing bit I don't care! 3rd Video is very bizarre, creepy and scary! Cabin with a Witch and a Pet Mountain Lion... I'm not sure this has any logical explanation! I put MrBallen videos on while I'm cleaning. I love the stories! Thanks for sharing them! Today, I was cleaning a large freezer-chest that suddenly stopped working. (Unfortunately though, my sister and I didn't notice; until it started to smell like death and decomposition. You can imagine the state of it.) I'm home alone. I'm 4ft 11", so it's hard to reach the bottom to scoop up the bacteria-filled water. I propped the lid open with a piece of wood. It broke. Termites, it seems. It nearly bonked me while I was bent over the front of the freezer-chest, head down. But, I reacted quickly when I heard the wood crunch, so I pulled away in time to avoid injury. My first thought was: "I almost became content, again. Lol." 😅 (The first time I almost became content my puppy got lost in what equates to a rain forest behind my house. I heard him crying and so, at like 1 or 2 am, I sprinted into the bush to find him. He is fine. He is mostly an inside dog now.)

@Wade Johnston Thank you ! I was looking through comments thinking that SOMEONE on here must have heard a Bobcat before and would have already posted that "screaming" would actually only be at the beginning of the scale of sounds Bobcats can make. While I can't make any informed comments about cabins full of upside down furniture or "native women" in trees, I can certainly attest that a Bobcat, already distressed by fire and likely fleeing, and then being treed by a human on an ATV, would feel trapped, desperate and defensive. Then just as they do whenever they are cornered (you should hear them when they are cage trapped for tagging, treatment, or removal to a safer area) they would probably go through a repertoire of sounds that could put your neck hairs in a Mohawk if you haven't heard them before. Under normal conditions, of course, their instinct would be to simply quietly slip away or conceal themselves before a human even got close enough to know they were around, but in the situation described, there was nothing at all weird in the cat's behavior. For one thing, while Bobcats definitely can hunt, mate and travel at night, they are NOT definitively nocturnal, and will also VERY commonly hunt or travel, etc in daylight, just as part of normal activity. So to see a Bobcat moving in the day in the face of a nearby wildfire would be absolutely NOT unusual or unexpected. For it to howl, yowl, scream, spit, hiss, growl and whatever else, after additionally being confronted by some rolling machine with a human on it, was just that cat's way of saying "Get out of my way, you damn crazy threat, there's fire moving and I'm already freaking." If you think about it, a human reported the story, but the Bobcat was having just as bizarre a day !
