I usually never cry from injuries but tonight I was in a lot of pain after surfing six hours for five days straight my piriformis was fried and I felt like death from the amount of pain I was in and that little figure four stretch just gave me a moment of relief which meant the absolute world to me.. I had a bad sciatica nerve pain flare up 3 weeks ago and I cannot walk, I ended up in the ER and they did nothing for me, except gave some meds for pain and inflamation, which did not help much. My doctor wants me to see a spine doctor but I dont think I need that. It seems like I need a physio doc but she don't want to give me a refferal for it.

Hi Bob and Brad. I was suffering from a deep, intense pull like pain in my left glute area for almost 8 months now, after I overstretched for a tennis shot. Not knowing how to fix it, I would just massage my own butt and stretch it out a bit. But, the pain always came back, sometimes stronger than before. Sitting in any set position for more than 30 minutes became almost unbearable, to the point where I had to take a walk while watching movies. Then, fed up, I searched online and am grateful to have found your video. Watched it intently and did all the stretches and also the tennis ball treatment and the RELIEF was IMMEDIATE. Was like a godsend. The pain is gone while I play and is definitely gone when I sit through movies. I was telling my wife about how happy I was to find this video. May god bless you guys and may you have a great lives! A very sincere thank you from India.

Praise God for you guys. I've had numbness in one foot since December. An orthopedic foot doctor told me I had Raynaud's and sent me home. It took me four months of research and experimentation but I finally found your video after trying to treat herniated disc. I had never heard of Piriformis Syndrome but that's exactly what I have affecting only the peroneal nerve. I had increased running frequency last year and also do a lot of sitting for work. Discovered through this that I had weak glutes and a tight piriformis. Four weeks after doing these stretches and exercises (and some other glute exercises) my numbness is nearly gone! I expect it to be totally resolved in another week or two. Thank you!

Thank you guys so much. One round, and I can feel the affected area reacting positively. I suffer from levator sydrome very badly, and I think my piriformis is one of the sources. My coccyx was stuck to the side a few years back, and I was experiencing syncope. I was passing out for months, and the only stretch my therapist told me would help was squatting down. It eventually escalated into sciatic problems, and would affect my ability to put on socks in the morning. Leg pain, knee pain... I literally just wanted to chop my left leg off above the hip. Actually making it through the day was an incredibly hard experience, and I have a very high pain threshold. I will make this part of my routine with rest between the exercise portion of the treatment. I can't express how much this video means to me.

I recently started to have this pain, at first I thought it was the sciatica, them after going to a doctor, he mentioned it was my piriformis muscle that was causing my pain. He told me to have pills to relax the muscle and gave me 4 shots to relieve the pain. I started doing these exercises now and I did the one where the guy on the blue shirt found the " soft spot in the buttocks ", and I started massaging my buttcheeck and it started to feel waay better. At first was pain, second time used a Bengay cream to complement the hot and cold exercise and it was better. It worked for me, I hope it works for you. All you need to do is to be constant. Otherwise it will not help at all.

Thanx for the info. Worked like a magic. Was suffering for last 10 days and this position gave quick relief. Awesome.

Anyone else yell out "Woo!" Every time they said figure 4? Would small bands around the hips and side steps also help strengthen it?

Damn how're you guys even that flexible I try to stretch and squat everyday and I still can't fold my legs against my body like that and I'm only 40. I wish I was half as flexible as you guys.

...This is the best I've felt since February when the flare up started. At times, I've felt hopeless, but have gathered up strategies to help myself. These are extremely helpful. Thank you so much for giving so freely...especially given the challenges, to say the least, with health insurance. Will definitely be sharing this. *What other piriformis or related exercises do you recommend? Do you have any that can be done without a table? Standing? Laying? Also for balance? From your Amazon list of products, do you have specific, affordable recommendations for low back and sciatica pain?

Very informative and entertaining. I went to emergency dept at hospital last week and our walk in clinic today. Lots of drugs, anti inflammatory, muscle relaxants and painkillers, I was experiencing some improvement, but I was still in a great deal of pain. 15 minutes of these exercises and feeling best i have felt in a week. Thank you very much. Don 55, Ontario.

how often do we do the exercise?
@series3338 жыл бұрын
thanks for the reply. even the final exercise at the end video on the table when hes laying on his stomach? it seems like the piriformis would be exhausted all the time. have you seen piriformis syndrome in avid cyclists? I think doing alot of cycling is what caused it for me. I've had this pain for 2 years now. but it got a lot worse a week ago. I started doing the first stretch you showed a few days ago. and it seemed to be helping. then I added in the exercise at the end of your video, and some others I found online for piriformis syndrome yesterday and I'm more sore today than ever. hopefully I will bounce back stronger. typically I feel better as the day goes on. when I first get out of bed, my lower back is soooo tight and sore, i can't bend over.

Im very thankful for both of you, i saw two different pts for my leg pain and both diagnosed me with sciatica, after paying for pt twice i still had pain after finishing, after a few of your videos i have been able to discover it is actually my piriformis and not a bulging disc and i know i am finally on the path to being pain free. KZbin needs to promote these men

Consider yourself very lucky, and take steps to address it before it turns INTO pain. Sciatic pain is extremely bad and not fun at all. I literally had to quit a job because of it.

I am having success with these stretches already and wanted to thank you both. I wish the relief was not so temporary, but I understand that diligence and patience are key. I made a large lifestyle change 2 years ago in which I was nearly 300lbs, and lost over 80lbs with proper dieting and exercise. My personal trainer is a good friend of mine who is always studying movement and also suggested that I try band resistance exercises/stretches, such as clamshells, etc. I truly wish to overcome this, as this is my second serious bout with Piriformis which has left me bedridden and in severe pain (can't sleep, even headaches, etc). Thank you so much for your help!

@TheArtofThings7 жыл бұрын
Ashlee Thompson do less of a stretch. You're obviously compressing the nerve so just back off slightly from a full stretch. Should feel like a stretch and not be painful or exacerbate your symptoms

I actually find a cool gel pack helps alleviate the ache of this low back, hip ache. I put it under my lower back upper hip area. Do this after stretching and it'll keep you from feeling irritated after the stretching.

Searching for self care relief from excruciating pain in my left buttock and lower back pain after Orthopaedic physician treatment, pain management treats via steroid epidural injections, chiropractor visits, but no relief. I did the stretch one day at work using my desk to stretch it out and I was able to complete my day in less pain and less uncomfortable sitting. This is a very informative and very useful video.
