I bought a Henry ar-7 survival rifle many years ago before I knew better. I would trade it for a 10/22, which I also have still. The Henry is ok, but not as good at anything as the Ruger. But in my opinion, if I'm bugging out, I probably only really will be able to carry 1 long gun, and 1 handgun, without sacrificing weight for other things, and I'd rather carry a centerfire rifle than a 22 for that. Having a 22 at your bug out location sure, but to grab it to go to my location, I'd rather have something that is a little more versatile and powerful.

I've owned 3 different 10/22's since 1990 & my 15-22 blows them out of the water in terms of reliability in my opinion. The rugers are harder to clean and are much more ammo sensitive. In terms of backpacking, I've never had a problem popping 2 pins and stuffing an AR in a bag.

Love a light weight AR 15 with CMMG 22lr conversion. The CMMG 22lr conversion kit has been 100% with over 5000 rounds of all kinds of ammo through it. Would have the .223 sporting rifle option and 22lr option to carry more ammo. Conversion takes 30 seconds and magazines have been 100% dependable.

The Ruger 10 22 is a great Rifle. I bought one on 1992 and it still fires like it's new. Im not sure I would take it on a long term bug out scenario though. While I could trust the rifle, 22 ammunition doesn't keep well. It doesn't take long for them to become loose and deteriorate. In damp conditions, a loose bullet will get moisture inside and it will be useless. My Norinco SKS is my go to bug out/survival/SHTF rifle. It's one of the top 5 most reliable rifles ever made. Minimal to no maintenance in long term extreme weather conditions. They are very cheap. Ammunition is cheap and durable and lasts forever. Of course, the negative side is small game hunting like rabbits and squirrel. The 7.62 x 39 round will destroy small game. But the plus side is long term reliability, medium to big game hunting, and self defense. But if your goal is to stay hidden and quiet without attracting attention while living off of small game, Ruger also makes some high power low noise air pellet rifles. You can pick off rabbit and squirrel all day at 30 yards without attracting attention. You can pick up a can of 100 pellets for a couple dollars. Spend 50 dollars on pellets and you won't have to worry about ammunition for 5 years. Nothing against 22 rifles, I just don't trust 22 ammunition in the long term.

James, not all of the other rimfire survival rifles are junk. I've owned two 10/22s (one being a takedown), Marlin Papoose and a Henry Survival Rifle. All of the rifles were reliable, with the exception of the 10/22 Takedown. As a matter of fact, I've owned the Henry Survival Rifle for about a decade now and it's travelled with me all over the country without any issues. Also, the M6 Survival Rifle was notoriously durable. The point is, why make blanket statements when you clearly have little to no experience with some of these firearms? That's like saying any handgun that isn't a Glock is junk.. Oh wait.

I dnt know about better I own both an the 10/22 being mag fed kinda gives it the win for me but i wana agree an lean towards the marlin because it was the first gun i ever shot when my grandpa gave me 1 as a boy right b4 he gave me a 270 for deer but I've had nothing but reliability out of both rim fires " even with not keeping them as clean as I should of as a kid " neither were ever picky with ammo selection. I use to run the cheap bulk pack ammo an never had issues besides the occasional dud round witch is allways to be expected with rim fire out of any rifle or pistol.

@spierce50844 жыл бұрын
I like the Marlin 60 too, tube loaders are quick and nice to have plus you wont lose the 'mag'. But surefire and reddot will die in one day, open sights are your best option due to no batteries and lack of open Walmarts in a shtf scenario. Scopes will also get out of zero with a drop or 2. Just my .02 cents
