Don’t think it’s an ego thing. They are asking for their money. To say they have a preferred dragon without even knowing what their speciality is just shows to the rest of them then a lack of respect. If you are going to be asking for their money you should at least know what their speciality is…

Entrepreneurs should always say that their favoured Dragon is the one which can serve the product best, and not disclose which Dragon they prefer. Let the Dragons bicker and barter between themselves. Negotiate if the Dragons are keen on your product and let them undercut each other or possibly team up. Rich and successful people like the Dragons are very smart, but bear in mind that their success is inextricably bound with their egos, which can be fragile. You are there for their connections and expertise, so stay eloquent, respectful, and most importantly, impartial.

I would have invested on the spot cultural influenced snacks are a great niche there are so many people (including students) that are very interested in differenty cultures yet are unable to visit or pay for a good restaurant the second best thing would be authentic snacks. I think it’s because of the growth. it’s nice that she made 100k in 3 years but there investing 100k into 17.5% of the business. From what I could get, it means they would need it to be worth 600k to actually pay back in their investment. Of course, I could be terribly wrong but that’s just my guess
@VICTHEREALEST
@VICTHEREALEST Жыл бұрын
These comments are crazy. It was a bad business and would’ve been a terrible investment. Think about the target market, what their preferences are, and why they would even turn to a niche snack among the many others. There’s no business here, it’s a low barrier to entry, and the ‘entrepreneur’ didn’t demonstrate business ability imo

If you’ve watched dragons den for any amount of time, you’ll learn that “letter of intent” is the equivalent of “patent applied for.” It really means next to nothing in securing a deal with the dragons
@skunclep1938
@skunclep1938 Жыл бұрын
That’s because they are very rarely genuine letters of intent, they are almost always simple proposals. Genuine LoIs include minimums & indicative penalty & liability clauses. That’s what the Dragons are looking for, an idea of what the eventual contractual terms are likely to be. I suspect that many of the LoIs in the Den were solicited by the Entrepreneurs for their pitch, and thus the buyers could only offer letters of interest.

My god, Deborah turned down the chance to invest because her ego was bruised not to be first choice...I mean if selling off your family's business after quite a few years not making any ripples yourself makes you a guru then she's right. Worth to note Blue badge company secured that investment based on their own valuation and seem to be continuing to grow with over 500k/annum sales already., so not sure the flaw they spotted there?? . The Dragon's have some good experience but their arrogance sometimes is overwhelming, despite having missed countless multimillion returns. And Peter's obsession with suits shows what a privileged toff he is, valuing the school you went to over talent.

The sharks make great sense...you don't own a patton,anyone can copy your snacks ,you have a niche product that cant go into some supermarkets.. And most non Indians can't tell the difference between the quality of your snack.

The world food or international aisle in supermarkets sells already very large and establish brands, they have limited shelves space so they only sells brands that already made itself very popular and recognisable to people who wants to give it a try or those wanting something familiar from their own country. You can't start and grow from there.

It baffles me why they get so offended on valuations when they all know they're gonna rip it to shreds with their offers. I've only even seen a couple of investments actually shake hands on their initial offer. 😅

The last one, I have a much better tablet stand, came with my lenovo 8 inch tablet, solid and you can also charge via it too. I upgraded to a 10 inch tablet, it fits, charges and is still very stable. Stuck it on my dashboard and use tablet for google maps.

@@kuchikopi4631 I really don't think so. The pitch was in 2016 and that looks like a really nice stand. Myissue is what Peter said that majority of people have covers which have the stand built-in and that's why it won't sell a lot.

Valuation. Isn't that a subjective number? What difference would it make what someone "thinks" their company is worth, in the near future? If I had a genuine, money-making business, that was appealing to a investor... why would they choose not to invest, based solely upon what I thought it might be worth?
@7Cedira
@7Cedira Жыл бұрын
I think the dragons want valuations based on actual evidence or proof, and not based solely on projections. If you are way off on your valuation, that might be a sign that you don't actually have any idea about your business or industry.

Howdah snacks positioned itself in a wrong way. If you are targeting Indian diaspora, it's not conventional supermarkets but the Indian stores. The Indian stores have a lot of choices of both known Indian brands and bespoke offerings. These snacks should be placed in the chips and snacks aisle in supermarkets and a major target market for such snacks are in the pub and bar market. Unfortunately Shaloo did not do enough research before getting into the den. It's good she is doing well right now but once she reaches a certain volume, Haldirams, Bikaji and MTR will swoop in. In the middle East, these brands have forced supermarkets to create an aisle for these products
