You are right. I had a bad with autnation dealerships ripping me off with my c6 Corvette 2012 i have warranty here in Miami Fl 33135. Corvette parts are very expensive. We don't have decent people in this neighborhood. The mechanic doesn't know anything about Corvettes. I watch you and learn from you. You are very straight to the point. Thank you. Amen 🙏

Lyle, you’ve always been helpful and transparent with me. Personally I wish more shops were like C&S Corvettes. I have found some good sources locally for working on GM, Chevrolet, and Corvette. It’s takes time and I think it’s best to get to know the community. Plus stay in contact with the community. It’s better to have history than to need help and not know anyone. 😢😮😢 Be well everyone and good luck with your Vettes.

I took my '69 Vette to a local restoration shop and spent thousands of dollars on various repairs. When I got the car back, the originally showroom new looking interior was wet and filthy. The car was left outside in a storm and the doors were not properly shut and I discovered my T-Top gaskets had a leak. The interior was filled with tree liter and water. Decorum prevents me from going into what was said, especially since I was told the car would remain indoors during the repairs. That said, another thing to look for is love and respect of the vehicle.

Your story is obscene. How anyone could that to a classic car, like what you have, is unconscionable. As a side note, I've found most repair facilities, including dealerships, will return your car dirty unless you ask them not to. I've found most are willing to wash the car before giving it back, but only if asked. Strange but true.

My shop checks all the boxes for my 1980 - one mile away - car guys - one has his own Corvettes- they helped me when I bought my car by looking it over even if it was virtual- their work is epic been a customer for 27 years - they are fair in their pricing and they treat my car like their own

Coming home from the museum a year ago this past fall was run into by a guy not paying attention in the rain, so as you can imagine, who do i take it to to get the repair i need. After much consideration I took a referral from a local Chevy dealer on a local body shop. Im so glad i did, a absolutely beautiful job was done. Its one of those things , putting your trust in someone's business and someone else's opinion. And after taking a first place trophy at the first show in the spring, i was glad to tell everyone about this local body shop and the great job they did.

You hit it right on the head I've found a local garage dealing in classic cars and sports cars the gentlemen who worked on my car worked for general motors mainly Corvettes he found the problem with in a couple of hours showed me the defective wiring harness I found they didn't work cheap but when you keep taking it to gm dealerships and paying them with out resolving the problem isn't much helpful either

I'm fortunate I have a local dealership who works with me and allows me to even bring in some of my own oils, filters and parts. Even when after the fuse/relay block carbonized for the FP circuit, and this part is no longer available, my advisor went on to Amazon and got me info on a FP fuse/relay harness to order for them to install. When they fix things, they tend to stay fixed. Yup...they're more expensive than an Indi, but, their work is top notch. I remember I bought new GM coil packs from RockA. And the tech didn't want to install what looked like previously installed packs. As there were hand written numbers on 3 of them by someone else. The lead tech who works on my C6 is very detail oriented. And it's MUCH appreciated.

Lyle's right on as always, but to those out there wanting a Corvette. Fined a shop who can do the jobs you can't. In my location the dealerships do not have mechanics that are trained to work on Corvettes. If you get a C5 or even a C6, they won't touch it. A is parts, B nobody with the skill sets. We see Corvettes with so much excitement that we miss the how and where to get service. The salespeople will tell you what you what to hear. Or someone selling local maybe selling for that very reason. By all means get a Corvette, but doing some homework first will keep you and your Corvette HAPPY. Thanks, Lyle, for all that you do to make Corvette ownership a happy experience.

VENGEANCE RACING is just north of Atlanta. They are the only ones that I let touch my VETTE. They check off all the boxes and as a bonus, the work bays are always spotless after each car is finished. Very professional team, not cheap, but worth the money spent. Remember, they're always a month out on work because ppl ship their rides from all over the USA just to let them do the job.

man that's rough, to be in a position where one has to ship a car just to get competent work. One might assume, in the internet age, that the car carrier passes more than one garage who might handle the tasks.

As I understand the problem, the early years are not interchangeable , and GM printed out all the specifications to get it copyrighted as though the circuits were literature, to achieve a much longer than usual auto parts protection. so any attempt to make a functional part , not even a direct copy, would be a copyright infringement. I'm counting on junkyards and the amount of later years with interchangeable modules, seeing no better solution . . the problem is that to save costs, the part was manufactured in layers, so to get inside to a problem, one has to destroy the part to get there. that is why the only repairs offered are re- soldering of the connectors , which sometimes come loose. any electronics repair shop can do that easily, if you are not DIY interested, or one can send away and pay a couple hundred bucks to re solder the connectors, the only possible repair.

If some repair facility kept my Corvette for "months," unless I was having the engine rebuilt, or some crazy obscure repair done, I would have gotten the car back before the word "months" entered the conversation. Months? The thought makes me nauseous. It's a good paradigm to consider the car "fixed" when both parties are satisfied. Being flexible: more sound advice. Regarding dealerships: I've had work done at a dealership after contacting all dealers in my area, getting prices, and by trying to judge their familiarity with, and affinity for, Corvettes. I've found prices vary dramatically, as does the attitude of the service staff. Chevrolet/GM no longer make certain parts, so they are unavailable through the dealer network and can only be sourced, if you're lucky, via aftermarket. (e.g. C6 interior plastic sill plate covers where they transition from the plate to the interior.)

once again I am typing in without much to say, just to trigger the payment algorithms for my good old corvette buddy what's his name. I would stress the importance of finding a dedicated corvette shop, something our good host was too diplomatic to say. the institutional knowledge is the key. If the guy who knows your car retires or quits , you might be disadvantaged in a non specialized shop. A situation you might learn about after the fact. And these cars have enough going on without additional surprises
