Q18 The synchronous motor is made self-starting by providing a special winding on the rotor poles, known as damper winding or squirrel cage winding. AC supply given to the stator produces a rotating magnetic field which causes the rotor to rotate.

In question 23 if excitation get cutoff it will run as reluctant motor if generated electromagnetic torque is more than load torque...

Power developed is maximum when load angle is 45 .. P = EV/Xd * sinδ + V²/2 * (Xd-Xq)/(Xd*Xq) *sin2δ

I appreciate your keen observation Kapil. This question was not deliberately gone into the depth of direct axis and quadrature axis reactance. We are not considering the effect of V²/2 * (Xd-Xq)/(Xd*Xq) *sin2δ here so if we put δ=90 which gives sin90 nearly to 1 so does we get maximum power. I hope you understood it.

@@ElectricalEngineeringMCQs you have to keep this in consideration because you have explained that synchronous motor has Salient pole rotor which is partially correct because it also has cylinderical rotor which is used in thermal power plant. Coming back to maximum power quadrature axis reactance can't be ignored in salient pole rotor. It can be ignored in cylinderical rotor which you have neglected in very first question.

​@@kapilmatoria3894 Indeed, I will consider this in next sessions so to have better clarity. I appreciate your kind explanation. Moreover, you may have observed that salient pole synchronous machines are more stable than the cylindrical rotor because Xd the direct axis reactance is lower than Xq (quadrature axis reactance) hence rotor remains more stable(in elect. power supply), compare to round rotor where Xd=Xq. Even maximum power transfer(Pm) occurs at a torque angle delta less than 90 degrees. Yet for high speed elect. power generators, round rotor are used, as are the more stable mechanical point of view. I have considered some of these points and came up with this conclusion, and considering the mcqs which I have explained from the synchronous chapter are the questions which have been generally asked in the examination. Sir what is the power developed by a synchronous motor.... According to u if we put 0 degree as torque angle in thr फार्मूला v*eb/xs **sin§ if we put del is equal to 0 then the power developed is 0 M i right sir or not??

Correct. Sin 90 Degree equals to 1 and so the power developed will be maximum.

there is a mistake in Ques.18- damper windings on rotor poles should be the answer.

How's 90 degree... Torque angle is the angle between rotor and stator. while no load the angle between this two is 0... Bcoz they are coincide each other... Dont confused its very simple to think
