WatchOS 10 will be able to do a lot of new things! For many athletes one of the most important features is the opening of the API for 3rd party training programs like TrainingPeaks. With TP, many athletes realize the communication to the trainer and he creates the plans, for example, for running intervals. These had to be programmed manually or run with another app. This is possible from WatchOS 10. In addition, you can pair Bluetooth sensors such as watt crank or cadence.

I’m looking for an app that will notify if I’m on pace or not for races. For example like it would give a slight vibration that I’m slowing down and alert me to speed up. Is there any apps like that? Thank you in advance
@ChaseTheSummit Жыл бұрын
There are several apps that provide pace alerts. Even apples built in workout app provides pace targets/alerts in the later updates.
@flntm4 жыл бұрын
You can pair Bluetooth HR sensor with Apple Watch and all apps will use that date after you have paired that. It’s been there since 1st generation Apple Watch. Apple’s own workout app can use external HR sensor just like other app. Just pair external HR sensor in Bluetooth settings and Apple Watch use that automatically after that.

There is a major flaw with all serious running apps on the Apple Watch (and ISmooth Run tries to tackle it as best it can, but ultimately - it’s a problem with the watch) - laps. Most Apple running apps including even Strava, do not provide for laps / manual laps / reps. Even with ISmotth Run, you have to press two buttons at once - and when you’ve just finished your third rep, this is damn near impossible. Ultimately, this is why I went out and bought a Garmin for running. Great video though.

However apple doesn’t disable its own HR sensor while using a chest strap. Not does it have the option to force it off entirely. Extremely frustrated at it destroys battery life. They have the option for their own native app only. It’s insane if them. Let me control it for long runs. The Apple Watch is trash for long distance runners who want to stream music. It doesn’t need to be. I have to run with my Garmin Fenix 6 when running marathons and streaming music. It lasts longer the whole marathon zero charge. Does anyone know anyone at apple? Drives me insane. I’ve been running with both Apple Watch and Garmin (one on each wrist for a year now). Apple should be embarrassed
@jr0ny2 жыл бұрын
If you connect a BLE sensor to the Apple Watch via the AW settings app / Bluetooth it actually will use it instead of the integrated HR sensor. If you connect it via an App like Workoutdoors it will stay partially on… let’s say using Workoutdoors you have the benefit to add HRV values to your recorded training if the HR Strap supports it. Using the external sensor and deactivating the internal one is also a nice battery saving and most probably the preferred way for most 😊

@ChaseTheSummit2 жыл бұрын
That's very odd. Do you have the watch tight on your wrist? Is the sensor clean?

Great video. Are there any features that you feel are really lacking when combining all of these apps? I know that the batter life is a little lacking but there's not much an app could do about that.
@ChaseTheSummit4 жыл бұрын
Probably just the battery life. But also generally the amount of data the watch captures . With a Garmin you’re getting all that other stuff like ground contact time, etc... The Apple Watch only collects the basics unless you use something like the Stryd app. Thanks for watching Matt!

Overall your top choice is work outdoors?? And you mentioned it does sync to Nike run app or that was just run gap?? That’s the only one I’ve been using with all my current date. Thanks!!
@ChaseTheSummit4 жыл бұрын
Yeah I personally like WorkOutdoors but mainly from the perspective of a trail runner. If I were primarily a road runner I think iSmoothRun is better. WorkOutdoors only syncs with Strava but of course you could use Workoutdoors + RunGap to sync to other platforms. Hope that helps!

I've been a Garmin user for many years and planned to move up to the 945. Been checking out the Apple Watch S6 and think it will be better for me than the 945. Can the data from Work Outdoors be uploaded to the desktop version of Garmin Connect? If not, I will go with the 945.
@ChaseTheSummit4 жыл бұрын
Sure you could upload to GC but it wouldn't be reflected in any of your metrics like V02 Max, Training Load, etc... Using an app like "RunGap" would make this process pretty easy.

@@ChaseTheSummit Thanks. I have changed my mind about the AW6 and the 945 at least 5 times this week. I decided to stay with the 945. I use Garmin Connect on a Surface Pro 7 and it works well for me. Not much of a phone user and don't care about notifications on my watch. I have an iPhone but just for talk and text. I installed Garmin Connect and ConnectIQ on my phone yesterday and I like using these apps with my VA3 Music. Picking up my 945 on Sunday

I bought an Apple Watch, then I got a Garmin Fenix 6, the Garmin watch and Ecosystem are built for running. I find it easier to do what I want when I want in terms of running on the Garmin. A touchscreen isn't that great to use while running. Still use both but the Garmin is my primary running device. Give me the Garmin Fenix with a brighter High Res OLED display and I'll be completely happy, fingers crossed for Fenix 7.

Nice review!! Run Gap already downloded. Is there any app that would let me set intervals (time or distance) like my trusty Polar M430? Let’s say i want to do 4k meters at 25secs/100m. Using the Polar, i can set an automatic lap of that time or that distance, but i can’t any of that on the AW. Thanks!!
@ChaseTheSummit3 жыл бұрын
I think you can set intervals in "iSmoothRun" but I'd have to double check.

@@ChaseTheSummit yeah but to be honest the Apple Watch 6 is only good to motivate you, and for walking and running. In my opinion everything else like other sports or navigation is bad, to slow, or a Gimmick

I currently use a Forerunner 735XT, but I‘m looking for an upgrade. I‘m between the Forerunner 945 or the AW6. Any recommendations on which you would buy if you’re looking for a great multisport watch? Doesn’t have to be between these two by the way, I would just like to continue using the Garmin HRM-Tri. Thanks in advance
@ChaseTheSummit4 жыл бұрын
Really depends on what you want in terms of features. If you've enjoyed your time with the 745 the 945 would be a huge leap forward. Great battery life, great accuracy, offline music, mapping, navigation, etc... If you want more "smart" features the Apple Watch is certainly the better buy. The AWS6 also has a really good HR sensor and good GPS accuracy. The downside is battery. Do you care if you have to charge daily? The 945 will last 2 weeks on a single charge. Hope that helps!
@michaellindorfer70874 жыл бұрын
@@ChaseTheSummit Thanks for the quick answer, really appreciate it. Just one more question. How good is the Garmin map feature? I used it once on the 735 XT and never used it again because it was kinda annoying to operate. Are the newer versions better. I would mostly use the course feature to get to know new tracks
@ChaseTheSummit4 жыл бұрын
@@michaellindorfer7087 the 735xt doesn’t actually have mapping but it does have breadcrumb trail. The 945 has actual maps that show streets/trails/points of interest Ect... it really depends if you need this or not. For me it’s a helpful feature for trail running. Hope that helps!

@@ChaseTheSummit Think I’m going for the Fenix 6s actually. Just discovered a video from last week where you talked about it the different sizes on watches which convinced me that the 6s is not to big. Keep up the great work and thanks again for your answers

Great review. Is there a way to pair a external HRM to the Apple Watch in general. Or can you only do it with an app like ISmootheRun?
@ChaseTheSummit3 жыл бұрын
Yup, you can use a bluetooth HR sensor with the apple watch. Just pair it in the bluetooth settings and it will be used by default for activities.

Hello, at first...thanks very much for your videos. They are very helpful ;) I would like to ask: Is there same App that allows to compare activities from Garmin and Apple (or another) to one place? And is there some App to get the graphs of heart zones (or other parametres) to one comparasion? I am a track and field coach from CZE and I would like to grow up my group. Until now, we have trained by some kind of sensibility and just "played" but We have some medailists from national championships (mainly heptathlon) and a boy on European championships (U18 - 400m hurdles - 51,72). We have big reserves of endurance and we want to change it so we want to use sportwacthes more efectively than just to know what time is :) Thank you very much
