Back in the days when floor had DANCE in it ... 🕺🔙
@honeyfromthebee3 жыл бұрын
While I appreciate that there's more focus on tumbling now, I think we can sacrifice the 4th pass for better dance/artistry when most everyone is just doing a double back tuck/pike anyway
@murasakino1012 жыл бұрын
@@honeyfromthebee I agree plus that would make it easier on all gymnasts. Ones who can't do super powerful tumbling don't have to try to squeeze in a fourth pass to help boost their score, and ones that mainly focus on hard tumbling can have enough energy to add in more turns, choreo, or leaps without being exhausted
@honeyfromthebee2 жыл бұрын
@@murasakino101 Agreed. I see a lot of gymnasts doing a double tuck (for example) at the end of their routine but with the deductions for leg separation, flexed feet, landings, etc. factored in, it's just not usually worth their energy. Judging has gotten really strict, but is often more forgiving of dance elements which also require less time and energy to perform. I would rather see a simple double turn, which is easy to execute without deductions (B skill) than an poorly executed double tuck (D skill with almost certain deductions) as a final pass. And, the gymnast would likely get more out of it! It boggles my mind that it's not more common
@murasakino1012 жыл бұрын
@@honeyfromthebee I agree as well! I see a lot of double pikes too and they also have many deductions at times. I would love to see more easier turns as well since most gymnasts would rather struggle doing a wolf turn for the difficulty value than a double turn that could be executed a bit easier. Idk why it's not more common either. I've seen too many gymnasts either fall on beam/floor on wolf turns or get heavily deducted for them and it's not worth it. Judging has gotten more strict like you said and they took away back-to-back wolf turns so maybe we'll see more variety this year if they have meets. I thought there'd be a winter cup but I haven't heard anything yet

You know what I find almost as great as the athletic skills of these ladies is their concentration levels. The camera an tv give the impression that they are the center of attention and all eyes are on solely on them. But that couldn't be further from the truth. There is so much activity going on around them in the arena with crowd movements, other teams and athletes competing on other aperatices. Different music playing in other sections. It's amazing to me at how focused they are. Incredible really.
@AdeleiTeillana4 жыл бұрын
Any gymnast will tell you it's actually more nerve wracking to have all the attention focused on you. For instance, no one wants to be the last performer on beam or floor when all the other events have finished their rotation and are just sitting around waiting. These girls are used to training in a noisy gym with lots of activity going on, multiple classes with kids of all levels, all practicing at the same time. They're used to floor music playing while they're on bars. It's much more scary to have the gym be silent while you're performing, knowing everyone's watching you.

There was a time in the 90s when front tumbling was a required part of every routine due to the code of points
@mistersaintjohn4 жыл бұрын
Yes, during the 93-96 quad. But no one front tumbles like Lilia. She builds up speed and I’ve never really seen another woman come close to front “tumbling” the way that she did. 3 and 4 front tumbling skills in a row. Almost unheard of. Usually people do 1 or 2 consecutively, but not 3 and 4.
@admetric4 жыл бұрын
In that code she needed to do three skills as she was required to do two tumbling passes and a tumbling pass was defined as three skills then. And the fly spring was credited as a B in that code and combined with a front full or higher she got 0.2 connection bonus.

But her ending pose was like take that to judges she served it to them on a platter lol. From the 80’s, I would definitely add Olga Strazheva ... but Biles no way. She has fantastic acrobatics but the artistry is not there ... and not only to her fault, the current code of points seems not to request it, nor actually seriously penalize its absence.
