My last program for work involved writing a Python program to scrape a log file and produce output in xml format that was then read into a CRM application via scheduled worflow to populate records in a relational database. I did not have to kowtow to any gatekeepers to get this done.

@@life_score The point is that getting to know a candidate and their past employment experiences is better than basing their eligibility for hiring on their ability to code a small problem on the spot just to appease someone.

@@daviddelaney363True, but doing so for every single candidate is unfeasible for many companies

@@daviddelaney363 Same, they asked how I would go about finding a solution and to talk about skills, background, and motivation. I believe algorithm tests during an interview are just stressful for candidates (especially if they are unemployed) and are not really reflective of their true abilities. And if someone is really bad at algorithms, you'll notice it in the following week..

What you should focus on is making real things and doing real work. These interview questions are basically just shitty exams that expose people who lie about their programming knowledge and understanding. And even the people asking the question are probably lying when you'd ask them how or why you'd use a specific algorithm and when.
