Jerry Cantrell is one of my all time favorite guitarists. His playing is bluesy, but he has a way of making it sound fresh and tasteful. Something most bluesy players fail to do. His work on the first 2 AiC albums are nothing short of brilliant.

My favourite AiC riff is “Last of My Kind” from Black Gives Way to Blue album. It’s such a weird riff, but sounds so heavy. Only Jerry can write something like that. @@TheSectric strongly disagree, they fit well the band just evolved over time into a much darker eerie band. JC sure is a riff machine. Question about tunings Greg: what makes something in "standard" tuning? What do we mean by standard if it can be dropped or flatted? Noob question Im sure but thanks in advance.
@MrHobocopter
@MrHobocopter 5 жыл бұрын
Standard is A440, if memory serves correctly the recording and radio companies needed a standard tuning so that way there was some comparability across instruments and genre, however there used to be different pitches depending on the composer, orchestra, or location. Saying like "E standard" or "Eb standard" is just a shorthand way of saying that it's the same intervals of notes as standard but tuned down a half step or a whole step or what have you.
@MrHobocopter
@MrHobocopter 5 жыл бұрын
And then standard as compared to say, Open D, which would sound like a D chord if you played all strings open, or DADGAd, where you have a kind of middle eastern sounding tuning.
@SweetOdinsRavens
@SweetOdinsRavens 5 жыл бұрын
A standard tuning with guitar refers to the intervals between strings and how patterns and shapes work. A standard tuning makes your shapes and chords all the same across the board as you learned them, where as a non standard tuning will change what frets you play to make those shapes
