You must be young. (Not an insult, I wish I was!) I was 5-1/2 and too young to understand the excitement of Alan Shepard's flight, but every geeky kid I knew was rapt over John Glenn's. The moon landings never got old; every one was intense drama and excitement. To see the shuttle fly and land itself really felt like we were moving forward. We had some pretty slow decades after that - rovers are great, but not over the top exciting. Now to see this landing - two of them landing almost simultaneously right on the X (they should win their own X prize) - well it does feel like we are advancing again. I thought we'd be a LOT farther along than this by 2018, but at least we're moving forward again at last. Next I hope to see single stage re-usable to orbit sometime soon. Maybe it's time to put some actual effort into aerospike development...

Way to go SpaceX, Every time I see this it just blows me away. I'm 68 years old now, and as a young child back in the day my dad worked at Holliman Air Force Base and was a leading supervisor on the sled out there testing the first rocket fuels, high-speed pumps, he actually designed and held a patent on the first refueling suit to refuel the rocket sled Because of the hazards they encountered. On many occasions he would take me as a young child to watch them shooting the rocket sled down a 5 mile track. It was absolutely mind blowing, He would always tell me to look way down there instead of looking directly at the rocket sled itself, it was so fast you would never see it going. This was during the Mercury and Gemini Rocket programs, I still remember sitting in the living room with my dad and family watching the Apollo program & the first moon landing. Unfortunately, breathing in rocket fuel fumes while working on the pad During those beginning days of design work, gave my dad a cancer That ended his life way too short. But every time I see SpaceX , And hear the roars from all the young and marvelous technicians it gives me chills To know how they also feel that they're successfulness is paving the way for more great adventures in space. Godspeed to all the hard work and for your enduring commitments on every level that it takes to reach success. Wish my dad was around to hear all you guys cheering, and of course to see the amazing un-thought of accomplishments Of actually returning the boosters back to the launch pad....!

Massive respect to your father, and the technicians and engineers that pionered the way forward. I am somewhat aware of the hazards of working with hypergolic fuels, and of volatile solvents in the Israeli Air Force working on F-16s. They used to scare the crap out of us on anything to do with hydrazine. I've used lots of nasty solvents, like Trochlorothane 1.1.1., White spirit, MEK, that are now pulled from use by USAF / IAF. A big thanks from a space / aviation ethusiast from Israel.

Hamza Trabelsi If you took the time to actually read my comment, you would realize that my point of contention wasn’t with his country of origin, but the fact that people, like you, attributed everything to Musk. The “owners origin” has absolutely nothing to do with who owns the company just because he was circumstantially born elsewhere. Elon Musk wasn’t the only founder of SpaceX, moron. Again, everyone’s tendency to immediately attribute everything to Musk is beyond me. People like you seem to forget that he had to buddy up with former NASA employees to get the company on its feet, and yet you act like he built these rockets in his damn garage. SpaceX, while private, has plenty of routes in NASA. So, yeah, I think it’s wholly justified to call it an American company. Oh, and by the way, I couldn’t help but notice that your buddy, the one said “Elon is South African actually,” deleted his comment. I guess he agrees with me.

What I found amazing is how they "unexploded" a rocket, made it stand back up again, then launched it into space. Then reversed played that on video. It just seems easier to JUST ACTUALLY LAND THE ROCKET.L lol

In my lifetime the russian sputnik was put in orbit, a man walked on the moon, computers were born, computer became power...very impressive. However I have to say that the double landing took my breath away...WHAT AN ACCOMPLISHMENT! Kennedy's promise to put a man on the moon was accomplished by the combined efforts of over 400,000 people. NASA was a shining example of collective socialist endeavour. A great deal of knowledge and experience coming out of the public education service of the USA went into SpaceX. Humanity has done this together.

A perspective from the older generation: The double-landing encapsulates all the dreams of what we never thought was possible in our lifetime. We grew up during the dawn of the space age with Gagarin, Armstrong, Aldrin and Yeager. To see where the space program is now, and to actually witness it, is mentally beyond measure and is literally sci-fi fantasy brought to life. The precision, the video quality, the spacecraft autonomy, the incredible technological advancements, the spacecraft design and the enthusiasm from today's young men and women is truly astonishing. This gives me hope that one day we will live on another planet, reach the stars, and thus, ensure a future for humanity.

I never get tired of watching those rockets land simultaneously. One hundred years ago we were puttering around in planes of wood and canvas just a few hundred feet above the ground, a hundred years before that we were restricted to hot air balloons floating a few dozen feet above the Earth. Now, we reach into orbit constantly and we can land dual rockets to be reused again. Well done humanity, well done.
