good on you I have trouble keeping track of one key never mind two sets. I have to have my house key to get back in and my mailbox key because I have rural mail out on the highway so when I ride duhh i grab the mail coming home and then there is the key to my other motorcycle otherwise I'd have to have two sets of keys then there is my little keychain med holder cause some of us need to carry a couple pills for emergencies It does suck having all the stuff scraping around the ignition switch or dangling off the fuel cap....although I have an idea how to make the locking cap non locking. My idea is to remove all the pins except one from cap lock cylinder then make a key that cant start the bike can only open the cap then cut off the top leaving just enough to braze on a little metal peg then just leave it in the cap pretty much always... should be enough room the flip top closes over nub peg top key....can still pop it off if staying at a hotel or something otherwise will appear to be fully secured cap...one the real key still can open if I had to but not having to fool with keys with the nub key in place would be really nice on my MANY stops for gas!

@@BikeLikeMike92 You're probably much lighter than me but what happens is the rubber stops under the seat over time compress. The other annoyance when tank range is so short is the thing inside the top of the tank that stops you absolutely brimming the tank. (It's probably there to keep an expansion space and stop you putting the nozzle in too far) If you're careful you can slowly squeeze an extra litre in the top

my only issue with the 2022 mt10 is that the seat is utter rubbish. my last 3 R1s were more comfortable which is impressive. oh and on the issue with the key, i highly recommend you never have more than just the bike key on the bike, had a short lanyard and a charm on mine that actually got stuck in between the tree and frame that almost caused me to crash in a corner because it would not let me turn the bars. other than that i have no complaints. @@BikeLikeMike92

You are right and wrong at the same time. If you ride an Aprilia, a Ducati or KTM fuel consumption is even worse than Yamaha MT-10. They have bigger engines they produce more (unstable power) therefore they need more fuel. Also they are very annoying down low in the reverse range. On city ride they are a big drama. About the Kay hole you are right, but at the same time you shouldn't use all those keys on a motorcycle. FYI I own an MT-09 SP 2022 and an MT-10 2023 SP. Both tuned by me with Woolich racing.

My 2023 MT-10 looks a lot better than the 2017. But you are dead on with the fuel consumption. Mine says 40 miles per gallon, not a chance. Mine also weighs 467 pounds but im i really big guy at 6'2 260 pounds. It feels like it was built specifically for me when i ride it. Personally i love my MT-10 to death, its bu far the most fun bike ive ever rode. The mid range power is crazy, i can school an R1 through corners especially on the exits. And im comfortable all day. I had 3 R1's since 2003 and they have all felt like ive been beat up at the gym after an 8-12 hour hard ride.

I have a 2018 MT10 and if you use the gearbox the way it's supposed to be used ie use the higher gears for faster roads, then I don't find the economy that bad for the performance available. Also, don't get taken in by lots of poor economy reports from the US where they have silly little gallons of only 3.8 litres, instead of our larger 4.545 litre gallons.

same identical tank no matter where you are lol...who cares what units the fuel is sold in that seems lame! It is confusing though when a brit is bragging how many miles per gallon if one does not know the us gallon is smaller. But most of the world thinks in Liters ...btw I think a lot of americans pay less per liter (youd have to compute it though as it is not sold in liters) than a whole lot of other countries...whyever that is....american world politics or whatever I guess...MT-10 holds 4.5 US gallons but so what?

For the key being under the clutch cable, I've taken a memorial ribbon of a friend that passed, and I've used it as a cable keeper by tying it to the handlebar. It was very first thing I did to the bike. My throttle also had a lateral wiggle that I used a bit of small rope to act as a spacer between the starter button and handle.

I have owned a 2017 Yamaha MT-10 for a few years now and have almost 10,000k's on it and I love almost everything about it. Things I don't like- The fuel usage really isn't that bad but is a concern when going on long rides, the seat is absolutely garbage and needs to be thrown in bin and buy an aftermarket seat asap, the stock exhausts is garbage, the Fluro rims get dirty really fast, the stock mirrors are ugly, the rear tail number plate thing is disgusting and the bike desperately needs a tune because the standard Yamaha fuel map is horrible but apart from that and a fair few dollars spent on after market stuff the bike is an absolute sexy beast with lots of power and sounds insane with a good straight pipe exhaust.

To be fair - bike tank shape, size, non-stop positional changes etc etc, all of those make measuring volume of fuel in the tank a nightmare. I am not surprised at all that the first bar on the gauge represents 50% - it is probably the closest to reality that the sensor can reasonably get. Ride safe!

In the UK, unless 90%+ of your riding is done via motorway, the 10 averages 85-100miles on a tank + reserve. Just reset one of the 2 trip meters when you fill up. Vastly more reliable to do that and compare it to whether the gauge is under half or not. Then again, i daily my MT so I know exactly the sort of mileage I get based on my riding to the point i only really check the fuel gauge if I'm on the last black bar before it flashes vs my mileage to see roughly what I have left before I fill up again. Initially I hated the fuel gauge like yourself, but it didn't take me long to figure out my mileage, and now it only gets a casual glance.

Alot of riding on challanging & diff roads. I always looked after my 07 & it's looked after me! 07 Is such a fun bike, great for city & weekend fun! I just am needing more, when I put more weight on my 07 feels unstable. This is what I need: hooligan when I want it to be. Weekend twisty fun very confident with traction & suspension keeping bike locked. highway maintained speeds & getting upto traffic speeds. long distance without shoulder back pain. good group rides easy to maintain (oil, fluids, air filter, spark ect) the bikes i'm thinking of 1290 r, 1290 GT & MT-10 I like the looks of the 1290's alot more then the MT-10. I just donno if the 1290 will be tame enough for me to enjoy more slower speed stuff.

I think you’ll know for sure if you go ride them all! Try them out. The MT can be both hooligan and tame. The 1290 is way more agricultural but can do everything on that list too. I loved the smoothness of the MT when I first rode it. Defo less build quality issues with jap bikes but like I said before… ride them!

@@BikeLikeMike92 Yea, I think riding them all will prob be my best bet if I can get my hands on them! I'm really hoping the 1290 isn't as bad as i;m thinking. I know the MT prob is quite smooth cause my MT even when I ride it like a mad man. It never does anything unexpected. The MT-10 is also quite a bit cheaper then the 1290. So i'll need to see if the looks & fun wise keeps up with that extra cash!

Good report. I'm about to buy a 2024.. The one thing that concerns me most is the teeny single HEADLIGHT. In dense traffic, I believe NO one will see that tiny twinkly LED.. especially the ocean of DEER in the eastern US. Over here, single headlights simply look weird; people yell out that you've got a bulb out, and in certain regions you may get pulled over for an equipment violation checks.

Yea I do agree, I’d like both lights to be on I’ve had the same where people have said I have a light out. I do think they are nice and bright however so I think safety wise a single light is ok.

It just means you don’t stay far from a gas station. lol Other than that the bike has 49k miles did one clutch the common coolant leak. Other than this the bike has been quite reliable. She’s still going. I’m 6’2 so the bike probably looks tiny on me. Throwing it around? Personal never had that issue. Once I removed the car the bike flings about quite well especially on the right tires. The key issue is an issue even with a single key lol. This bike is as close to perfect as motorcycles can get. I just bought an MT10 2024, a few weeks back. I was at the grocery store, tried to put the key in, it fell.... Not on the ground, somehow it tucked itself inside the front gas tank grill to the right (seated), STRANGE, and that feat was not easy. We took a coffee stirrer wrapped in tape, could'nt get it out. Fortunately, I mentioned I lived a mile away and have the other key at home, the manager told another guy to take care of me. Fry's Food store in Phoenix. I now always approach the key in from the front, not while seated, the clutch cable is annoying in the way, key is long, and I only owned the bike for 50 miles at the time, for perspective. Otherwise, it is an outstanding bike, I am over 200 miles, have some accessories ready to install at 600 mile 1st service. My bike, I call her Tron, with all of the teal and glow, yep. I guess I will see that extra key back at my first service. Also, the rear seat, you need to use the key opened to lock her in, you can't just shove it down. I say rear seat lol, the whole seat
