Good for you Richard. Being a true motorcycle enthusiast it's hard not to keep buying the latest bikes or something you think might serve you better but it's very easy to sell a bike you are comfortable with and will forever regret selling. We always look for that perfect bike without realising we currently own the nearest we will get to perfect for us.

Yes, completely agree. Buying new bikes is a great experience but holding onto a really special bike is more difficult. Sometimes you don't realise how good they are until after you've sold it.

I watch a lot of bike reviews on KZbin, but, to be honest, yours is, by far, the most informative and honest out there. Quite simply, for anyone in the market for a used motorcycle, they need to look no further than a review from a long-term owner like your good self, who has been there, done that and got a few t-shirts along the way. Fabulous stuff Richard, great looking (and sounding) bike, great weather and superb roads.......what's not to like. The bike is a keeper for sure. Enjoy all the preparation for this years' Euro tour. Take care for now.

Really nice of you to say David. The beauty of our little channel is we don't do sponsorship, take free stuff offered for review and are free to speak our minds (within KZbin guidelines) It's just for fun and we enjoy the interaction in the comments section. It was a beautiful day for a run out in the gorgeous British countryside

Excellent review Richard, I couldn't agree more with your assessment. Indeed, it was seeing and hearing your experience of the bike which gave me the confidence to buy one in July 2020. I live in North Cornwall, and traded my R1200RS at Wigan Yamaha. So a round trip of 660 miles proved the decision - comfortable, sounds brilliant, capable of both slow and fast riding. I must say that my fuel consumption averaged over 45 mpg, and I don't dawdle when on a long run! Unfortunately, recent health problems have resulted in two numb and useless feet, meaning I can't change gear , so I am now waiting for an NC750X DCT to be delivered. A different league from a performance point of view, but after over 50 years riding, I have to accept the change - I don't intend to give up yet!

Well, Saturday dawns and there's some blue Sky here in sunny Worcestershire and I can't disagree with anything you've said about the MT10. My 2018 bike was £10500 with 1 mile on the clock and handguards, rad. shield, comfort seat and the small screen. I am still utterly besotted by mine and the thing that still 'gets' to me, apart from the excellent handling and the sheer grunt of that engine is, that fabulous sound, which we got lots of on this great vid.. I think you can grow to love the looks of a bike to an extent but once you're riding it, you can't see that. However, the feel and the sound(I always wear earplugs to stop tinnitus, but you don't lose that sound), it just totally takes you over. You are right to keep your bike as having ridden the new version, they have lost the magic of that sound. Great Vid. yet again Rich.

Amen to all your observations. Ours is just slightly younger (couple of months) and thus a few less kilometres here in Oz. We are still almost exclusively two up riding and doing a few more shorter trips. Just coming into Winter in WA so the rides are more pleasant due to our lack of rain, and losing the heat which cooks us at traffic lights. My wife doesn't complain about anything, even when muggins gives it a bit too much throttle overtaking and the obvious front wheel up occurs. I just suffer the embarrassment of doing a wheelie on the road. I too thought of upgrading to a new one but was equally horrified at the exchange value. Why change what works indeed. Keep enjoying it mate as we do, it's keeping us two oldies young and helping keep boredom at bay. All the best from your mates in Oz. If we ever get back I promise we'll catch up!

The MT10 is still in my top 5 of bikes I want to buy, a large chunk of that is honestly your use of it. You do basically everything I do except the track days, and I'm sure it'd manage them just fine eh! One of the more interesting things for me is I've seen people complain about these engines blowing up etc on occasion, but you're the only person I know is up to date on servicing etc.....so I take your experience as a lot more representative of how I would find it tbh. Great video, I hope it keeps serving you well, enjoy the upcoming trip :)

I vaguely remember seeing an MT10 featured on your channel way back. Didn't your mate have one back in Ireland? I'm sure it would be amazing on track days. The trouble with these bikes, they do get stunted and are favourites for dyno tunes and ecu flashes. I'm not sure all those mods are conducive to engine longevity. My bike in the majority is ridden steady. It's stock as I'm not interested in dyno numbers as it's plenty fast enough. I think I'm mechanically sympathetic in the way I use the bike, like not revving it out hard until it is fully warmed up. Full main dealer serviced, including the expensive valve service. Hopefully, it will continue to be trouble-free...... I've just kitted it out with the latest Shad expandable hard panniers and top box ready to head to the Pyrenees. Looking for to it. Hope you're keeping well and best wishes.

Glad you are still enjoying it. Just a few points, if you swap the mirrors out for the ones on the Tracer 7 you can actually see behind you! You are only averaging 4000 miles a year despite foreign touring but I guess that has been because you often use your van to get the bikes there? Don't try the new MT10 because you will want one, it's so much better in every way, even the fuel consumption is better however they still missed a trick by not giving it a 20 litre tank!
@Banditmanuk
@Banditmanuk 6 ай бұрын
Yep, the 20L tank would have improved things. We probably did bigger miles in the early days and have ridden all the way to Carcassonne and back but yes we have done the Alps twice now using the van mainly because of work time constraints. No van for the upcoming Pyrenees trip. Of course, the pandemic scuppered lots of touring plans. I've yet to try the new bike. My Yam dealer used to be good at throwing me a set of keys to just try a bike (it's how I ended up buying this one) As I mentioned, I'm just not sure on the looks of the new bike. Appreciate hearing your thoughts, and thanks for watching

I couldn't agree with you less regarding the new model with the exception of it should have had a larger tank. They've ruined that glorious sound and just turned it into a load of induction roar. The one I tried, I gave it the full beans and could detect any better performance. I found the dash over complicated and too many options and the dash figures too small to read. Yep those yellow wheels are a dirt magnet. Thought I had wiped any excess lube off the chain. I like the open pipe CP4 noise but only for a very short time. I'm keeping my stock exhaust.

I loved this review. I too have an mt-10 and will keep on riding it until the wheeles fall off. Can i ask what tank bag are you using? Im looking for one like yours that clips to the gas cap
@Banditmanuk
@Banditmanuk 4 ай бұрын
@yama_ghost4536 It's an SW Motech that attaches with a tank ring. Sorry, I can't remember the exact model, but think you will spot it in their range. Enjoy the MT10 and thanks for watching

Had my 2016 MT 10 a few months now and I can honestly say it is a belter. Agree about the key position so annoying! But that sound from my Scorpion end can never gets old. Only weird thing mine does is smell of oil from time to time after some blasts, was wondering if its just a header breather? but cant see a oil leak? Weird.

I always said don't be an early adopter on a new model. Then that's exactly what I did! Luckily for us, Yamaha got it right from the get-go. I'm not sure about your oil smell? Is it using any? Could be just the normal combustion smell if the cat had been removed?? Hopefully nothing to worry about. Perhaps a complete clean of the engine & headers then take for a long run. See if you can spot anything.

@@Banditmanuk No doesn't use a drop from my limited time with it. I will be having tank off again and giving engine a deep clean. It is D catted with K&N air, leo Vince pipe and Scorpion End Can. Re mapped and have 150 at back wheel 😊

Mt10 is one of the few bike ive sold on (after 6 years) that i still liked, unfortunetly my bike needs changed and the big MT wasnt ticking those boxes. My new one does everything the mt did plus a few more and tbh is just as fast if not faster... the MT's trick is it feels fast, even if in reality it isnt any faster than other bikes in the segment also I must have got unlucky because mine was fairly un-reliable. Saying that ill probably get another one, if they put the cp4 in a tracer format i would buy one today. Enjoy the bike mate, thanks for the videos as always.

I'm sorry to hear yours wasn't reliable. What did you buy? I certainly wish they had done a Tracer 10. Hard luggage and a bigger tank. I thought I had the perfect bike a few years ago with a 1200 Multistrada. Loved it, but it broke so many times!!

@@Banditmanuk Hi thank you for the reply. I ended up on an s1000xr in the end, went out shopping for a Versys or a tracer 9 but got a good deal from a non BMW franchise dealer on the XR. Would like to get back to the Japanese at some point, possibly the new Suzuki sports tourer if a Tracer 10 doesn't materialise.

Very detailed review Richard. Really enjoyed it. When did you encounter the loose seat for the first time? Do you have any info from the first hand if the latest model has a better fuel consumption? I can only imagine how does it feel when you open the throttle. :) Cheers bro.
@Banditmanuk

The seat was like that after a few weeks of ownership. You can replace the rubbers underneath but I've not bothered. Yes, the new model is slightly better on fuel but not by much.

Did you have your valve clearances checked? If so, what was the mileage and how bad were they?
@Banditmanuk
@Banditmanuk 3 ай бұрын
@dmac7660 I did at 24,000 miles. All the exhaust valve gaps had closed. Definitely needed doing. Think with the rest of the service & mot (UK roadworthy test) it came to around £800.00 at my Yamaha dealer. Full vid here kzbin.info/www/bejne/oJuve4qJgsZ4r5Ysi=V3BwaW_rpklKDl--

I like the comment all I have done is put tyres on it!! 😂 and a lot of ⛽️ fuel! But if you love it you will feed it. You are keeping the MT10 for the same reason I won’t be selling my bike any time soon. It ticks all the boxes!

I don't know what the maths are, but 34,000 miles on the bike. 17litres used every 140 miles. Petrol approximately £1.50/litre. Think that's over £6,000 spent just on ⛽️ I think 🤔 I still love it, though The GS is a way more sensible buy. I should probably be riding one

Hi Richard .. .doin a long term review ..wow 8 years ..I came away with the definite knowledge that she's a sweet sports tourer ..Stock parts reliability .I have always said ,you want long engine life .Do not mess about with aftermarket exhaust ..Years of engine design arsed up with 30 minutes of spanner work ..gotta say the most expensive mod on the bike is the fuel saver ..Does a Carol come in blond and red head 😍 😍 😍 😍 😂😂😂😅
@Banditmanuk
@Banditmanuk 6 ай бұрын
Yep. There's often a price to pay by trying to screw every bit of power out of an engine. Raising the rev limit, probably being amongst the worst mod. Ha ha fuel saver.

It’s the bond, the places you’ve been and seen together. A little too fast and with a face only a Mother could love, for me 😉 I bought a Street Triple R after seeing your review of Carol’s, it was the sound when the KTM outgrunted you 🎶👌🏻

😀😀 Yes, unfortunately, she's not a looker. I'm still in love with it. I've seen so many places and had some amazing trips on it. You probably noticed I had that Street Triple review in my mind when I made this vid. Started at the same cafe. I admire the Super Duke but I wouldn't want the hassle of owning one. (And he did have nearly twice the cubic capacity)
