These are the baits we trust when July temperatures start to soar! The hotter it gets, the more predictable the bass are, creating an amazing opportunity for you as an angler. If you know which baits to use and where to fish, July bass fishing can be amazing! It doesn't matter where you are in the country, its time to get on the water and experience the peak of Summer bass fishing!
As water temperatures rise, bass rely heavily on overhead cover to shield them from the sun. It doesn't matter if you're on a small creek, a giant reservoir, or a weed-clogged lake, the need for shade makes bass very easy to catch. Without any effort at all you can predict where they will sit and with a few key baits, catching them becomes very easy. Forget beating the heat this July, its time to embrace the heat and use it to your advantage!
Below you'll find links to the exact baits Matt discussed in the video. We've included details on sizes, colors, and any modifications he uses to fish each bait. We've also included links to some great budget-friendly rod and reel combos that will help you fish these techniques effectively. All the links go directly to Tackle Warehouse where you can see detailed photos and descriptions of each item.

A 4" Lizard was finesse fishing all day in the early 2000s. I remember landing 30-40 fish a day no problem. Now everyone and their dog throws a ned something. I hate the ned it killed the finesse game everywhere.

The Ned has probably become the go-to for largies and smallies outside of the dropshot when it gets tough up here in N. Wisconsin. Depending on the plastic you use and the weight, there’s just so many presentation options… Its popularity has brought back some old favorites that don’t get the play they used to ~

Man… I’ve been straight up tearing the big ones up on a square bill in heavy cover. Natural colors worked best and the water is pretty murky. Fishing my family’s private pond I caught 6 fish 5lbs+ in two days. I’ve fished that pond my whole life, never chunked a square bill, and I promise fish of that size don’t come out that often. I tried a few other tried and true baits out there and hooked up on a few dinks, but nothing like that square bill. Cheers!

can you guys put together a river smallie vid. the river i fish has pretty much everything, big boulder and chuck rock beds, smaller rock beds, tons of lay downs/fallen trees, a million docks, grass, has it all, but theyre weird in my river, harldy ever hit hard baits(cranks and jerk) jigs(small or larger) top water, mainly just ned rigs, wacky worms, and slow falling tubes. maybe ive just been doing it wrong. also depending on where on the river, theres either lots of stronger current or almost no current. I invite you guys to try the upper potomac sometime and see if you have better luck lol. Dam 4 and 5 specifically

I'm 64 years old and best bait I've ever used was your regular straight green pumpkin with bait juice 17 lbs of bass less than 3 hrs... its not always the color mainly the scent bass only see 2 colors white and black!!!
@oldeschoolbob1022
@oldeschoolbob1022 2 жыл бұрын
I've seen some studies suggesting they see red also. The problem with that is, reds are the first colors the eye (human eye) loses as water depth increases. Personally, I think they see shades and reflections - which is why I try to mix some glitter into my soft plastic whenever possible. I think scent may play a role when the bait is very slow moving, but I believe bass are mainly visual predators.
@ricksonora6656
@ricksonora6656 2 жыл бұрын
You’re right that color takes back seat in importance. Most bass lures are colorized to catch bass fishermen first, then fish. OS Bob is right. Bass see red and green. Red loses significance with depth because it doesn’t penetrate water. With increasing depth, green does, too. They can’t tell yellow or chartreuse from white. Bright blue appears as dark green, and medium blue appears as dark gray. Purple depends on the dye. If it’s true purple, it appears black, but if it’s a mixture of red and blue, it appears dark red.

You always do a good job on your channel, but that was one of your better overviews of the peak summer period 👍🏻 Up here in Northern Wisconsin, our waters are either full of grass or they’re crystal clear and 50-80ft deep… so the tips on clarity can really be helpful. The fish are so active right now up here that they can be caught from the bank out into the middle of the lake and on any bait in your boat 😎

Thanks for remembering us north east guys 👍, im actually finger lakes. my favorite for this summer is the senko weightless Texas rigged backwards, I think it has a better fall when rigged backwards then forward, moves through cover way better and casts just good enough to throw it on a bait caster with upgraded bearings in high vis water, its perfect for casting around down trees, accurate casts around weed bed corners and versatile enough for pretty much anywhere Electric shad bc its natural and mature bass love purple

With all the pressure where I live and the lack of bank access at most places without a boat I barely get descent bass anymore... Sadly I get skunked more often than not or I catch a ton of dinks.

I recently decided, instead of fishing that requires hiking, I was going hiking, with breaks for fishing. Also, I will divide my time at any spot between bass, catfish, and crappie/bluegill. I put in too much effort and expense to take an empty creel home every time.
