I have often read that Mushishi is supposed to be pretty good for learning japanese because the way of talking in this anime is way closer to actual japanese in reality than most other anime (it rarely has unnatural soliloquies and doesn't seem staged). I have watched a couple of episodes. It's kinda episodic and not bad but I personally fall easily asleep when watching it because it's pretty relaxed.

I love this woman. She's so energetic and she really helps me be more confident in learning this language. She always puts a smile on my face, I love it. (edit) I'd like to add that, maybe, watching children's shows would be good as well, seeing as they go at a slightly slower pace, and show off places that would be good to learn about (home, workplace, school, store, etc) they are a bit simpler to follow, and the story lines can be pretty cute too. I would recommend Shin-Chan, as you would probably find enjoyment in that show, even as an adult. I actually watch an episode a day with my little sister, who is learning how to read. She reads the subtitles, while I listen to them speak. She also gets to learn a little bit about a different culture. So if you have to babysit and have to do homework as well, this is a good way, I'd say!
@melonymutou2 жыл бұрын
I like that concept, that's kind of how I felt, that children's shows would be a good place to start, and MOST children's shows (granted, this is based off of my experience watching American children's shows) are also plenty entertaining to adults because they endeavor to be at least slightly entertaining to adults watching along with children, or even just doing various work in the background while their child watches it. Spongebob is probably the best example of a show like this, and I feel like this is a pretty universal trait with most mid-level kid's shows. Baby shows might be a bit too far down the pole, but if your Japanese is super basic, you may want to start there, anyway. I, personally, want to learn how to READ Japanese, which is like an extra giant leap from just speaking/listening to the language, so good luck to me. It's a rough endeavor, Kanji is just.. SO difficult, as a native English speaker/reader.

The fact you included that it includes furigana saves my life. I've got Katakana and Hiragana down, but Kanji is just. The bane of my existence at the moment and it's honestly a rather heavy uphill battle I'm facing. I WISH I only wanted to learn how to UNDERSTAND Japanese on a hearing/speaking level, and not SPECIFICALLY on a reading level, because my life would be so much easier that way. Though I admit I've only been working on this for a little over a month now (specifically the reading/writing part, I've picked up bits and pieces of Japanese vocab/grammar over the years watching Anime with subs in general) so I'm being impatient, too, but I'm just so excited to finally pass this barrier that it feels like I've had in my life for like my ENTIRE life. I wanted to learn Japanese in High School, but because my school was brand new and had just barely reached over 200 students my Freshman year, the only language offered was Spanish, so I caved and took that. And there were SO MANY less avenues to learn a language like Japanese 15 years ago. The sheer amount of apps and resources you can find now is mind-boggling, and I wish I had realized it sooner, because I would've been studying it for years now if I had known so much was available to me. I'm honestly hoping to *maybe* even Master in Japanese Language and culture in the coming years, but we'll see if life in general will allow me that luxury...

@SherrifOfNottingham7 жыл бұрын
Anime is a contraction of animation, then that was loaned to Japan, and then given new meaning when returned. So: Singular - Anime Plural (Collective) - Anime Plural (Numeric) - Anime's Parallel example Cow: Singular - Cow Plural (Collective) - Cattle Plural (Numeric) - Cows In his sentence he was using anime as a collective plural, but if you were to be referring to more than one anime, you would say something like "I don't care about those two anime's" Because it's a loan word that is a contraction it gets special access to the ['s] pluralization. Since anime is a "proper noun" in this sense. This pluralization is only really done in special circumstances to where there's a plural of a proper noun. Such as if you were to say "all the Risa's in the world" you wouldn't say "Risas" because it breaks apart the name, you're adding letters to the name. The rules of 'new' English are even more confusing because it continues to adopt words into it's own language. Anime as a direct translation already exists in english, with the word "Cartoon" and "Animation" however there's a certain amount of nuance to the word that merits its own inclusion. It makes the language incredibly diverse and flexible but also confusing to learn.

Unsurprisingly watching anime for 13 years has been helpful in my understanding. Ever since I started the absolute beginner course I have felt a much stronger understanding of Japanese culture. I also love learning, so even knowing that I'm surprised that learning a whole new language is fun and not nearly as daunting as I thought it would be. Within 2 hours I was less nervous when speaking and the A is B that I started earlier is a lot easier, I left it at 3 hours, though. I can say without a doubt it wouldn't be nearly as fun if I didn't have Jessi-san and Naomi-san to help me with pronunciation. I have to say, though, say my name not as Donald but as Donard is going to be challenging. I think I'll just cheat and pronounce my name like normal.

Wow, i absolutely understood the introduction without any subs. I was like why there aren't any sub. I guess I watched too many anime already. I definitely haven't watched enough to understand fully and become fluent.

Actually a great anime to help you learn Japanese when it comes to understanding kanji would be Noragami. The story includes a lot of characters who are weapon ghosts and their names are connected to a certain kanji so the reading changes regarding of whether someone is calling them as a person or as a weapon, eg. Yukine (person) - Sekki (weapon), both derived from the snow kanji. Plus, it has so much word plays and cultural references as the main heroes are Japanese gods. Someone who doesn't know anything about Japanese might even get confused once in a while. The story, the heroes and the artstyle are just awesome. I really recommend checking it out! ;)

do these ones use simpler Japanese or is it clearer? why are they particularly good for learning Japanese?
@leekfoxyt70357 жыл бұрын
myforever13 Because in anime like..Fairytail they don't deal with everyday situations and normal conversations, get it now?

Unlike characters from One Piece :P They, you know, fight with other pirates and search for legendary treasure that will make their captain the king of pirates, just everyday stuff xD

I don't think Death Note is a good choice to start with! There is a looot of talking and the talking (and the story as a hole) is very complex! I think more simple anime with not that much talking would be better. When there is for example more physical fighting, you can get the story from the pictures and understand more easily what the people (could) say at this moment. It's harder to understand what someone is talking about if you only see them standing around and saying something.

I fully recommend "Kobayashi San Chi no Maidoragon" (Miss Kobayashi's Dragon Maid). It has an incredibly well written cast of fantasy characters that interact in everyday situations using simple vocabulary. Since it is everyday situations such as work or at the market, it has a lot of dialogue and words that are important to know and practice. Plus it's freaking adorable and aaaaaahhhhh. I will be watching it multiple times for practice and because I love it that much.

Shouldn't it be "Shiroi kuma"? I thought you had to use the adverbial form of the colors when they are used as an adjective, which is the case here?
@JapanesePod1018 жыл бұрын
Hi Bud E, Thank you for posting. "shiroi" is adjective and "shirokuma" is a noun, a kind of bear. Hope this helps you. Keep studying with JapanesePod101.com Regards, Miki Team JapanesePod101.com

ahhhh thank you Japanese pod I can now remember how to say whitebeards name in Japanese now lol
@bude82348 жыл бұрын
Learn Japanese with JapanesePod101.com I see. "White bear" is a "compound noun", not a bear described by the adjective "white". So, the same would probably apply to "red wine" or "white wine". This clears up alot of confusion!

@JapanesePod1018 жыл бұрын
Hi Winx Club In Greece, Thank you for posting. When it comes to "son'na" around 2:30 on the video, it is used "son'na ni ~~nai(negative form)" and it means "not really" "not so ~~" "not too ~~" and so on. For example, そんなに わるくない。 Son'na ni waruku nai. =That's not too bad. Hope this helps you. Keep studying with JapanesePod101.com Regards, Miki Team JapanesePod101.com
