El trovador Mudo ummmm do you forget the concept of “brown” came from Europe, US declared independence from England, hence our language, and England had controlled so many countries and influenced so many places, and ummm you remember slave trade from history class? And tbh no one hates being referred to as “brown” people rlly don’t care people only care when you make a racist remark. And to try and point our whole country on it is a bit rude. And yes we like to say where our ancestors are fr I’m Irish, Mexican, Spanish, Native, and East European. We are proud of heritage. And Americans know Spaniards are not brown! And being honest with you we don’t call anyone “brown” if it’s a white family, being honest, people say it’s a white family, if it’s a Mexican family people say Mexican family, if it’s a Arab family people say Arab. The only time people use “brown” is referring to skin not the individual. And you say categories of skin only exists in US? Excuse how about African Countries where there is genocide based of their shade of brown. How about Asia, where light skin is favored, there are sooo many countries that favor light skin. To say the US is the only country is a lie.

HelloTalk is a tricky app. I used it at some stage for improving my Mandarin (but deleted it soon afterwards since most folks just wanted to make friends and not study seriously), i created a Japanese account later on but getting a language partner was incredibly difficult. HelloTalk is a great language learning app its just that the majority of its users misuse it as another social media app xD

Zoë van Wyk Agreed. When I tried HelloTalk to practice French some perv kept trying to send me weird pictures and get my number so I stopped using it. I've been meaning to try it again because it seems like it could be a really great tool, but I'm still a bit hesitant.

Brianna Lawton try Tandem. You need to be verified as an actual person using a Facebook account, but I've found some serious language partners on there for Spanish. They have everything and you can indicate your language level on it. I found it favorable over HelloTalk and stopped using that altogether.

I used hellotalk for Japanese and made three really good friends. This was three years ago; I was 16 years old. Since then, I haven't used the app much but I am happy to say I found my best friend through there and am still in touch with those other three good friends.

I am learning Japanese and I can say that one of the things that is helping me the MOST is that I speak to my children in Japanese. Anything that I can say in Japanese, I will say to them. Of course they started out not knowing what I am saying and I would have to say it once in Japanese, and then once in English, but quite quickly they have learned many of the words and phrases I am saying. This has helped me the most because it means I am speaking Japanese DAILY. Every single day. And as I learn I am adding new words and phrases. I also speak Japanese to my husband sometimes, but not as often as my kids. I should do it more though...
