I've worked in the cat toy industry for more than 40 years. Interactive toys that have a string on them like a fishing pole ALWAYS require human supervision so your cats aren't injured by getting tangled up in the string. Put them away where your cats can't access them when they're not in use. We have a warning about the hazards of unsupervised use in the fine print on our label next to the bar code.
@Pepperprojectz3 ай бұрын
Oh wow, that's impressive! I imagine a lot of cats have benefited from your long career. Also massive agree on the string. Out of interest, have you seen some of the newer toys that are trending on social media? We reviewed the Turbo Tail 2.0. Be interesting to get your thoughts on that one if you see it. :) Also, what's your fav toy? p.s. thank you for watching and taking the time to comment on the video. :)
@lynscott885719 күн бұрын
The little orange worm fuzzy looking thingy on the end of the fishing pole, will start to come off in the cats mouth, eventually. They do love this toy, however, I did not like finding the fuzzy stuff everywhere and worried about it in their stomachs, so it was put away.
@Pepperprojectz18 күн бұрын
Yeah agreed. Fishing rods and their attachments are best stored away when not in use. It's pretty normal for the attachments to break, it's to be expected, thankfully they are fairly cheap to replace. If you get a chance, I'd recommend having a feather and a worm option to switch between during play, our cats LOVE the mix up as it keeps it fresh and exciting for them. Appreciate you taking the time to watch and comment on the video :)

I am in love with this channel, I like new but also your reviews are up my alley. Nothing makes me angrier than toys that are almost designed to injure our cats, this is not only information its pertinent to the safety of our cats. Thank you so much for pointing out the issues, I have had cats swallow glitter balls and OMG please review those stupid toys with glitter that goes through the fabric balls and the glitter PULLS out...so many things are just so DANGEROUS.

Interactive toys are intended to be used by a human and a cat together for a safe bonding experience and then put away securely where your cats can't play with them alone after you're done playing together. The more reputable brands have warnings in the fine print on the label about the hazards of unsupervised play.

@@willdwyer6782 and its why I realized my cat had swallowed the foil glitter ball, I was playing with my cat and the cat when capturing the foil ball and when I got it back half of it was missing, and it wasn't on the floor. Cost me 500 bucks to get that out of his stomach, he was a garbage gut when it came to food, he was 14 when he passed 2 years go. I spent a lot on vets with him, he was a puppy cat, he swallowed everything it made me nuts. He would destroy toys, he was part Maine Coon Cat and very big, hard on toys, great with kittens and other cats. He adored me but he was always the cat that played rough, he liked fetch, no want toy with a string survived he bit the end off of all of them. If it has stuffing he had to unstuff it, toys didn' t last around him, his mission was to destroy them all. The fabric balls I noticed before I even used those, I had kittens in the house at the time, and had been given a stocking from the dollar store of toys. I didn't even give those to the cats, I couldn't believe that the glitter just slid through, its not even attached, not a toy I would even give a cat supervised or not. I have had cats swallow things that weren't smart, one of my cats swallowed the plastic bead on my winter coat, I was fortunate because I panicked and pulled the string and the bead stayed in her stomach. Another costly vet appointment but fortunately she did managed to pass that one I was lucky, but I don't leave cats alone with toys, I don't think its safe, I have had one too many incidents over time. Any toy we do have I have gone over like a boss, even expensive toys have their issues, one my cat caught his claw in the slot of a bell on a toy. Later on I was very lucky when I found one in a cat poop, so any toy with a bell, I cut the bell off of it, I have given the bells to people who make Christmas things and I avoid anything like the balls with bells in them. I like my smart toys laser pointers are great and I really like this Bigger weird ball with a big fake raccoon tail that is remote control and makes the cats nuts. I agree all play should be supervised, why I think more attention should be paid to inspecting products for safety because you can't always be in the room, you may think something is safe but when it comes to pet toys no one inspects them for safety, and so pets get hurt.

I am waiting for a toy that is a pop gun with a bunch of material balls it launches. It is very cheap its coming from Temu so for less than 5 bucks Cdn for the little pop gun and a bag of 10 material balls, I also ordered an extra bag of 50 balls for I think it was 3.99 Cdn. Typical tho, Temu says they ship in so many days so far they have given me an extra 15 bucks for the 3 times it hasn't shown up on the delivery date they gave me. Now it just says ready for shipping no delivery date because if they do I get another 5 bucks or if they cancel I get the current value which is more than when I ordered at the end of March!

I find really simple ways to make cat toys, and great things to make cat toys out of are baby toys. I do have a neurological kitty with vision issues and human baby items are good for him and one of the baby toys cats love a lot they make them for dogs too are the sensory toys that crinkle. I repurpose a lot of human baby toys into cat toys. One of my favorite to repurpose is the folding baby play gym, I love them and not just for my disabled cat. The wooden folding gym is wonderful for kittens, you can hang toys safely for play so that little cats won't get wrapped up in cords so you can offer safe play without having to worry about a cat getting wrapped up in a hanging cord.

Thank you for the tips! I'm really new to owning a cat, really only had her for a little over a month and noticed she has a *huge* hunt drive. She's an indoor cat due to her allergies and the fact that I live close to a busy road so keeping her entertained is mostly down to either using the fishing rod or me throwing toys for her to chase. Especially the springs, the tubes and propeller will be great additions for her toy box.
@Pepperprojectz4 ай бұрын
Congratulations on being a new cat owner! Awe she sounds really cute and totally agree with ooo re the road, we made a similar decision. On the toy front I’d recommend grabbing a few puzzle feeders and looking to add things like tunnels and a couple of cat trees (if you haven’t already). We released a video called ‘why cats get bored of toys’ and in there we broke down the different types of toys etc. If you need another wand type of toy, the cat dancer could also be a good option as she’ll love hunting that! Congrats again Robin, let us know how you get on with the toys! 😻

I took on a kitten Maine Coon (6 months old) & she came with a host of toys. Feather wands, replica mice, spinney ball things all sorts I went a bit old fashioned & her favourite toys (currently) are not those, but are a felt tip pen (lid on), few crisp packets rolled up & tied in a knot (she doesn't chew them) & for right or wrong, a couple of plastic syringes which all have unpredictable movements when she swipes at them. May give that tower a try though. Nice one.

I totally agree. I do like how it gets my little boy moving though so after a few minutes I toss a piece of kibble and shine it on the kibble then turn off the lazer when he goes to eat it. He gets something attainable.

Super late comment but here in the US the “finger traps” are called boinks (name brand). Try turning the ends in, they kinda look like a bone shape, you can spring them off the floor, etc. You can also put one end inside the other and make a large ring shape… just a couple ways to mix things up. Liked your why cats get bored with toys video

Boinks also sells a Bamboozler stick. It's a string that is the same material as the finger traps and it's attached to a bamboo stick. My one year old cat LOVES hers. She will drag it over to me when she wants to play. It's a great toy for a couch potato like me because I can play with her and get her chasing it without me even having to get up. I couldn't find them anywhere so I ordered from Boinks website. (I also ordered packages of the finger trap toys.) The shipping is very expensive, but the joy my cat and I get out of playing with them makes it worth every penny. A warning: you may often find the finger trap toys in the water bowl! 😄

I'm afraid to use my cat tubes - I got them in a bundle of mixed toys and they resemble so much the wire casing I bought to prevent Kitty from chewing on the wires :/ I am afraid that if he likes the cat tubes, he will start to see the wires as toys :/ do you have a similar solutions for your wires or you use something else? As a fav toy, I am not sure he has one. I need to rotate a lot with him cos he gets bored of his toys very easily and if he's in the mood for the "fishing rod" he will not play with the ball, and if he wants a ball, don't give him a mouse hahaha But I think in general he prefers the furry kind of toys, and the smaller and lighter the better (as a general rule of thumb cos at times he is in the mood for bigger toys but that is rare and far in between usually) ...my Kitty is so unpredictable... he doesn't even has a routine! hehehe
@Pepperprojectz5 ай бұрын
Oh wow, I’ve never thought about the resemblance before. The tubes are quite stringy but if you’re worried there’s plenty of other toys. Also thinking about it now, cat tube sounds better than finger trap lol! Ours haven’t been 😂 In the past we had a cat that used to chew everything. Clothes, cables, my wife’s expensive shoes (lol)… we ended up doing similar, wrapping the cables and switching out cables for ones that were braided and metal. These days, we’ve got Ikea desks that come with the under desk netting. Alternatively, although it doesn’t sound like you’re suffering from cable biting (atm at least). You can also grab a couple of (small) dog chew toys or even fabric toys which lets them get their fix. Loool! Honestly. Sounds like he’s got right where he wants you! We’ve not reviewed it yet but we’ve been testing the Trixi cat adventure carpet. I don’t think it looks great and there’s a few faults but our cats LLOOOVVEE it. It’s good by itself but it seems to really amplify the fun time with other toys. A & K

Thank you for watching and leaving your honest feedback. Cats are weird. Not all toys will work with every cat but as owners it's our responsibility to find what works for each of them, and then doing more of it. It sounds like your cats are really lucky having you. You're clearly trying and have worked out what they do and don't like. And honestly, that's all that matters! For us, hopefully we'll review a toy that will work for your cats (we're currently in the middle of writing a DIY cat toy video, which we hope will be out next week...) maybe one of them will work for your cats?
