I noticed at the beginning of the video, a fisherman holding a snook straight up and down by the jaw. As an avid snook fisherman for over 20 years, I would like to educate all those that are reading this the proper method on how to handle a snook. holding them straight up and down by the jaw will surely cause them to die slowly, not only does their body weight tear precious tendons in their mouth, their body weight also causes organ damage when held in this manner. the snook is a suction feeder and those torn tendons in the jaw will not heal they will slowly starve if they haven't had significant organ damage from their body weight. any snook of any size should never be handled in this manner. I live beachside just a little north of Sebastian inlet, I have worked with local biologists and the FWC to educate fishermen how to handle these fish. the slot limit is very small so most snook that are caught should be released, but if you don't properly suspend their body weight in a horizontal fashion you just adding to the mortality rate even when you release what looks like a healthy fish.

@@RichardSites spread the word Richard, I know you have some excellent snook fishing grounds down there. Curious, you said you been snook fishing that area for 30 years, I've got to know your personal best please. My PB, caught at Sebastian inlet was 44 in, we weren't pinching the tail back then, and again at the inlet I got one that measured almost 42 in the same year. Appreciate the 411 on those five spots very educational and understandable although I don't spend much time down there......yet !

They’ve been catching quite a few snuck out on the south jetty at the Jupiter inlet. The salon is very small so I’ve seen most of them throw them back. Good luck and thanks for watching.

Best bet right now is the beach at sunrise. Not 8 am, before dawn breaks. Jupiter Beach Park or down near the pier in Juno. Check slot limits since they change every year and you may need a license and snook stamp.

Just stumbled across this video, I visit my in laws in Hobe Sound at least once a year and would love to get out and catch some snook. Curious what time of year you can catch them off the beach like that? We usually visit in early January.
@RichardSites
@RichardSites 2 жыл бұрын
By January, when the season is usually closed, they have moved back into the warmer waters of the rivers. Can can tolerate fresh water so this is not an issue. I believe the best time to fish the beaches is late summer into the fall mullet run. Thanks for watching.

How do you gain access to the third spot at the Jupiter inlet colony north of the inlet?
@RichardSites
@RichardSites 2 жыл бұрын
Either walk down the beach from the north or walk into the Colony from the north and access the beach that way. Tough spot to access. In 1991, I walked back from the north jetty to Coral Cove carrying 4 snook and my injured cousin who fell on the rocks. Luckily I was much younger then. Thanks for the question.

Going to Jupiter for the first time. Was thinking of launching from John D on my Kayak. Would you recommend another area? Searching for snook.

That's not your best choice if you are looking for snook. They are running along the beaches right now within 25 ft of the shore. You would be better off launching from Burt Reynolds boat ramp.

Any tips for snook from beaches in the first wk or two of March? We’re planning on doing a family vacation in Stuart then.
@RichardSites
@RichardSites Жыл бұрын
Depending on the temp snook may be along the beaches or up in the St. Lucie river. If you fish the beach, early is best and they are right along the shore, not way out. Tight lines. Subscriber?

Awesome video. Are these spots still good for Snooks in mid October? What other fish runs during that time? We will be at Palm Beach Shores. There is a jetty there and we've seen videos of people fishing there. Is that a good spot to fish in mid Oct? If so, what king of fish comes around the jetty at that time? What size poles do you recommend for Snooks or just fishing in general in that area? Thank you.
@RichardSites
@RichardSites 11 ай бұрын
There could still be snook around in Oct but almost certainly mackerel and bluefish will be here. Walking on the north end of Singer Island near MacArthur Park or Juno Beach would be your best bet. As for gear, stop in a tackle store and talk with them. Tight lines and good luck.

Thanks for your take on the best places to catch snook. Interesting that none of your spots have any structure like rocks associated with them. About the “double roads” name. My remembrance is that the old A1A road paralleled the new one for a number of years, hence the name. Hope your dog turns up.
