My family and I are looking to move to Wisconsin. We are torn between Sheboygan and Madison. We plan to move by end of the year from South Florida. Family of 5, looking to rent first then buy, after we get a feel of the State. Madison and Sheboygan are VERY different places. Madison is expensive and liberal while Sheboygan is inexpensive and conservative. Sheboygan is WAY safer than Madison. Sheboygan also has close proximity to Milwaukee and is right on Lake Michigan. Housing prices in Sheboygan are also WAY less expensive and you won't have to haggle with sellers. If you want a smaller community that is safe then choose Sheboygan. If you wan't a bigger city with close minded people and virtue signalers then move to Madison.

It's nicer than Madison. Madison is for trust fund babies who are used to a life of privelege. Otherwise, you're going to be broke and the people here are unfriendly, conceited, materialistic, and amoral.

As someone who lived in Madison for 30 years... what? The Isthmus would be a real #1 if you like city living. South/West sides like Arbor Hills or Old Sauk areas would be #1 for further out. Middleton, Shorewood, and Maple Bluff are all ludicrously expensive compared to any of the other suburbs like Fitchburg, McFarland, Cottage Grove, or even further like Oregon or Stoughton. They have the most expensive houses, the highest taxes, the strictest HOAs and neighborhood covenants, and are full of old boring rich people (like the governor or chancellor).

What about Oregon, WI. A town of about 10k + with housing that is a little bit more affordable. Commute is approximately 7-10 miles from Madison. Just jump on hwy 12/18.

God! This is why I love Madison. People have all these unrealistic expectations, when they move here. Madison has Rich people and Poor people. You do the math! I work at Mendota Mental Health. I hope I don't see any of you there. 😂

Super high property taxes. Move ou side of Dane county on which ever side of town you work for. Trust me, you don't want to deal with the beltline traffic on a daily basis

Yeah. If you ever want to know where the term white privelege comes from, just take a boat ride around the northern shores of Lake Mendota. These are urban white liberals that control everyone and make all the rules. Then blame working people for all of their privelege.

Niche must be super generous with their school ranking for MMSD. we left Madison for Cottage Grove as we simply could not send our children to Whitehorse Middle school and especially not LaFollette HS.
