I got a toro smart stow mower earlier this year and love it. While it doesn't always start on the first pull after being undone from it upright storage position, it's nice to have left over space in my shed with the mower. A trade-off (as I see it) I can live with and at only $340. :)

Just purchased the toro super recycler from my local dealer. Got it home and did two passes to take a little bit off my lawn. Then did one pass on my neighbors over grown yard. Let me tell you I'm very impressed. No clumps no bogging down hell it even stripped good. We'll worth the money. Before I made the purchase I was going to get a used recycler but decided to treat myself to a new 2020 super. So far no regrets I'm tempted to cut my hole lawn tomorrow.

I purchased a Ferrex self propelled petrol 6 hp with electric start. 21" cut. Mulches and rear catches or with side discharge. Cost $349 AUD with 3 yr warranty. The mower is heavy but works well.

I’ve used those Honda ones for over 5years and I find that I have consistently had issues with the plastic nuts towards the bottom of the handlebars breaking off. These come welded onto the bars near the adjustable piece for the handlebar height.

I prefer the Ariens LMR-22 self-propelled mower. It works well for me on hills. They consider it commercial bought from a professional small engine store. The only complaint, this mower drinks a lot of gas. I mulch only, and it has never bogged down on tall grass. 🐀🐾

Sounds like the rear wheel drives are bad for complex cutting where you have to cut forward and then backward as you work your way around shrubs and tight areas.

@@ElimitechPest Absolutely no problem with the Honda. I bought it as a replacement for the old mower at my church. At first glance, the Honda is significantly more well built and runs flawlessly. The Toro is much more cheaply made, but the battery is nice and it cost $500 less than the Honda.

My last electric start mower, the battery packed it in after about 2 seasons. I dunno about these never have to change the oil mowers. Last I wont go in to the cons of shelling out $500+ on a new mower, but thanks for the video.

Those honda mowers "would" be good if they had a side discharge which in my opinion is why I don't buy them, some people can't get their yard cut once a week but want it short and what I found with the Hondas is you're not gonna cut 2 week grass short without your mower constantly bogging down on ya so that knocks Honda off my list

The transmission of my HONDA lawnmower has gone bad TWICE NOW IN THE PAST 6 YEARS. Had to pay for a new transmission the 1st. time, as it was one month beyond the Honda warranty! Honda wouldn't cover the repair, so I had to pay for it. That alone, I will NEVER BUY A HONDA LAWNMOWER AGAIN! Last year the transmission did the same - it quit working, so what I did is take the 2 sprockets off the 2 rear wheels so I could push the lawnmower without the transmission. It's not that easy to push in tall grass, so I'll be buying a new lawnmower this year some time! I'm doing the research now!

My dad cut lawns commercially from the mid 80s to 2015. His first mower was a commercial Toro. Two years later, he bought a used Honda as a backup because the Toro kept breaking down in the middle of the day. I remember helping him out during summer school breaks, the Toro was absolute garbage. He traded both in on a new Honda HRC in the mid 90s which we would still have if it wasn't stolen in 2008 (along with all the other equipment in his truck, minus the backpack blower he was using). The replacement HRC he bought is still in use by me to cut 3 properties every weekend. Still starts on the first pull, runs like a champ.

Just cause they use a plastic carburetor doesn't make them terrible mowers. Just means it needs high quality gas and not to sit for excessive amounts of time.

@@Kingswood7189 No, it is terrible for more reasons than that. Plastic flywheel cups that are prone to breaking. Internal plastic camshafts. The ridiculous check and add scam. And those plastic carburetors are quite problematic. Ive seen some with no residue in the carburetor whatsoever and yet the carb still needs replaced for some reason. And if they do get gummed up, a carburetor clean often wont work. Briggs and stratton engines are quite junky nowadays. Take it from someone who works on these things nearly every day.

@@andybub45 as someone that owns a modern briggs powered toro (smart stow, fwd) and has worked on my fair share of briggs mowers when I worked on small engines years back, I haven't seen anything beyond a carb rebuild (mostly because of moisture/water in gas) on these engines. I've also had the joy of dealing with and retiming honda gcv160s cause the cam belts would slip off under the valve cover and kohlers that would stop working for no logical reason (via recalled faulty carb). I run my toro 2 times a month and the only issue (if at all) is sometimes it takes a second pull to start from its upright storage. There are worse designs out there especially with certain carb designs from prior briggs and I definitely dont fall for the check and fill bs.

@@Kingswood7189 Interesting. I have never seen a GCV160 with a slipped timing belt. Those Kohlers do have their issues though. Maybe yours is somehow fine, but after seeing how cheaply these new Briggs engines are made, I will never buy one. My 5 year old Honda HRR has a GCV160 that hasnt had any issues. Same with my Ryobi power washer with the same engine. A customer of mine had a brand new Bolens that he bought for his tennant. Out of the box, it has carburetor issues. I inspect everything in and around the carburetor (which looked ok), clean it out really well, put it back together, and it has the same issues. I even checked spark and compression, no issues there. Now hes fighting with Lowes to get a new Carb put in it.

@@andybub45 lol, bolens and entry level troybilts are garbage, I can attest to that. The 125 and 140 cc briggs engines are more prone to issues than the big boy 163s. The gcv160 cam belt issue occurred back in and before 2015-2016 ( when I worked small engine repair, would love to get back into it), in which case, honda installed a metal tab inside the valve cover itself to prevent that issue. As far as I've seen, those ryobi pressure washers have gcv190s and they're great little engines, I've seen some issues with pumps attached to them, though.
