I’m a knitter and recently started dabbling in Tunisian crochet. Love the woven look and like changing it up a bit. For me I really like the knitters pride dreams knitting needles and crochet hooks, I already have the cords and am finding I would rarely use a small Tunisian crochet hook size. I am also a Susan bates hook user from way back, having started out crocheting as a child with my Aunt teaching me when I was very young. as I progressed to knitting later in life, I got out of the crochet mode. Having found Tunisian crochet has renewed my love for needle crafts and your videos are such a pleasure. Thank you for all the hard work you put into these videos.

I will have to get by with what I have. I do have lots of hooks in all sizes that I inherited from my mom. Those prices are well over my budget. But I will make do with what I can. I am fortunate my mom left me everything to do with sewing, crocheting cooking, baking. She did it all. Even made wedding gowns and my dolls were the best dressed dolls I the world. She even made a flight stewardess outfit!. Thank you Toni

Came here from your recent interchangeable crochet hook video. I think one of the biggest things that was not mentioned for the Chiaogoo set is that the ENTIRE Chiaogoo line is interchangeable, including the knitting needles. So if you have a knitting needle set, the cables and accessories can also be used with the crochet hooks. Chiaogoo does make a cord to fit the larger sizes without an adapter but why it wasn't included is beyond me. Chiaogoo also makes the SPIN cables that rotate freely inside the connector like the Tulips. Not to mention that you can buy individual hooks or needles AND cables to add on to the set, which is a big selling point for me since I already own the knitting needles and can use the same cables/connectors/end stoppers and accessories for those too. Plus the price often dips below $100 on Amazon. If I were looking for a crochet hook set, I'd be more inclined to save up for the pricier option that acts as an extension of what I already own rather than having a completely separate system. Having said all that, the Denise hooks look like a really great option that is more budget friendly but I just hate the look of them. The plastic makes it look really cheap and I hate that 90s VHS look the holder has. Thank you for your thoughts and opinions on this video, it's really informative and has tons of great options 💛

Another big plus for Denise is the ability to put a hook on each end of the cord so you can use it for double-ended crochet! They are wonderful. I too would like them to be longer. I have tried all the other hooks and agree 100% with your assessments. Very nice review.

I agree with your choice of Denise hooks but like you I wish they were longer! The head is fantastic for picking up loops and is very smooth. I once wrote to Denise and suggested they made a regular 10 or 12 inch straight Tunisian hook which I would buy if available. Nice video - thanks.

Yayyy! I bought the Denise Interchangeable Set for my birthday last November, based on your recommendation. I do enjoy them very much and they've become my favorite crochet hooks, period. 😊 Having used interchangeable knitting needles in the past that require a key to tighten, I know that I do not like those, as they've come loose while I'm working. Also, I can't use those pretty wooden hooks because a feline kid might take a liking to them: one crunch, and they're done for. 😬

I also love the Bates style hooks and Denise set! I agree they are short, also wish they we’re longer but the ease of use, price point, mix’n’match parts, weight, and warmth are hard to beat. Thankyou for the review, it is really nice to have the comparison. I would also add that the hooks have the right amount of glide for all the different fibers I have tried.

Thank you for your honest opinion. It is greatly appreciated; just starting off and not wanting to spend too much. I like that you had a range not just for the way they felt in your hand but cost as well; being a few yrs later, the cost is similar in difference for the most part. I did go with the cheaper sets for now, but I like Tulip carry just because they don't come undone, and it moves separately from the hook. (that is on my wish list) Thank you again for sharing your honesty

Hi Toni, thanks so much for posting this. Ive been practicing Tunisian crochet with a long steel Tunisian crochet hook but it’s been heavy and making my hands hurt, so I thought it was something I couldn’t do. After watching this I bought a wooden hook with a cord and it’s bloomin marvellous.

LOVE the Denise set ❤ I was watching this video and hoping the Denise set would be included. Happy to see that it's your favorite too. I ordered my set maybe 10 years ago directly from Denise to Norway 🇧🇻 (I have the big set). I bought some of the hook sizes loose too so I could do the double tunisian. I also have the Denise knitters set. Love them both. My 15 year old daughter is using the knitters set and I showed her that she could use a slightly smaller size in the left hand when knitting round so the stitches slide off more easily (eg size 6mm in the right hand and size 5/5.5mm on the left).

I myself have gotten the Addi click. The cords and stoppers are still sold separately. I am still waiting for my stoppers. I hope to get them in this week. They're coming from Germany. I have used one of the hooks for a project I just finished. one of the things I like about the Addi hooks are that they can be used for traditional crochet as well as Tunisian. Very happy with my choice.😁

I bought a "Denise in a Della Q" set directly from the Denise website about a year ago (based in part upon your earlier review of the Denise interchangeable hooks), when they were having a special sale on their "seconds & irregulars". (I think my "Denise in a Della Q" set was marked down from $70 to $56, and they had the coordinating notions pouches on sale, too.) I haven't actually used my Denise hooks yet, but I have used those Della Q notions pouches (filled with Denise crochet notions, plus my other small supplies) several times. The Della Q roll-up pouch is very compact (about the same size as a roll-up pouch for regular crochet hooks, but still holds all the same hooks, cords, end caps, etc. as Denise's "clamshell" case, and it's gorgeous! I do also own both the bamboo fixed Tunisian hooks and corded Tunisian hooks you recommended (and have used the fixed Tunisians for a few projects), as well as some aluminum fixed and double-ended Tunisian hooks (some Susan Bates, some from a cheap set I found on Amazon). A Ravelry acquaintance made me a roll-up pouch for my fixed Tunisians as part of a yarn swap a couple of years ago (basically the same as a roll-up pouch for knitting needles), and it's a sturdy thing, with room enough in each slot to hold multiple Tunisian hooks of the same size (which can easily happen, once one has bamboo + aluminum + double-ended Tunisian hooks in most sizes!).

I think the knitters' pride ones are made of birch, as they have other lines of hooks that are really similar that are made of birch. They've got a pretty good value line of hooks called Swift that are polished birch and they're really great. I absolutely love knitters' pride as a brand as it is. I fell in love with their karbonz needles and the square nickel needles, so when I found out they made crochet tools as well I was super excited. I've never been disappointed by them. I thin the very first tunisian hook I ever bought was a knitters' pride interchangeable and I loved it. I've since lost it and am really really sad. ps. Also a susan bates fan myself. I'm prone to carpal and cubital tunnel so I like the more ergonomic hooks that that brand sells.

This video was so helpful for me! I had purchased a Knitter's Pride hook and cable to use the Tunisian full stich for a king size blanket and was having so much trouble with it. I felt like I was fighting the hook all the time and the head of the hook was so long, I had to be really careful with the stitches. You confirmed it wasn't just me. And the cords were so stiff, I never got them to uncurl easily. In one of your other videos (yes, I've watched a ton since I found your site because you explain and demonstrate everything so well) you mentioned Clover hooks and how easy they were to use. So, I bought one hook and one cable. Magic! LOVE them and the way they move independently! That, and with the head size being smaller, has totally relieved my frustration and immediately allowed me to increase my speed. Thank you, thank you! They impressed me so much I've already ordered the set!!! Thanks for all you do!

I just love the Denise hooks. I recently purchased a second set so I could do some techniques requiring a double ended hook. I purchased the Love2Crochet set by Denise that has the larger hook sizes and only runs about 25$ on Amazon. This set is good if you use worsted weight yarn a lot (sizes range from 6.5mm to 15mm). The largest hook can accommodate a chunky yarn. You can purchase longer cords separately. I did this since I make a lot of blankets.

Thank you!! Before I even started Tunisian crocheting (and I'm still very much a beginner with TC) I had bought a 15 hook and cord because I was making a log cabin style bathmat and needed something long. It was a Denise one and I fell in love. I bought the Denise interchangeable knitting set. I'm going to go look at the fixed hooks right now because I LOVE your dish cloth pattern and want to make some to practice. I never seem to get past like 3 rows because I find the 3 hooks I have right now very uncomfortable to use as they are so long. I myself am very much a "Denise" girl so I think I may end up buying that set, though I completely agree 100% with what you said about the cords and the short hook length. I would rather pay $10 more for a bit larger case and longer hooks as I also have big hands.

I bought the Knitter's Pride bamboo set to begin with not knowing if i would fall in love with Tunisian or not. I did--bought one of the swivel cables available plus the color coded cable set which has a 16" included in the 5. I added a couple of the KP Ginger hooks to the set to fill in- (a 4.5 and a 7MM) and really liked the hooks. As I got interested in double ended I bought an inexpensive set of 10" double ended bamboo hooks but found I liked using the interchangeable hooks but had to use close sizes since I didn't have 2 of the same. So--I found the Ginger set on sale in Amazon (I understand sometimes even cheaper than I paid) and ordered it. I like them a lot--put the same size of each side by side in my interchangeable case with the color coded cables so I am set. Did not see this set mentioned here or in your review of sets in past several months. Besides loving Tunisian, I found I can do overlay mosaic with Tunisian--so that incorporates both my crochet interests.

Thank you for this video. I just got a knitter’s pride Tunisian hook and find the cable a bit stiff. Hubby had to sand the hook a bit so I could use it, being totally round was awkward for me, used to my Deborah Norville hooks. I like the ChiaoGoo for the flexible cables. The Tulip set, I am liking the idea of not needing the key to tighten the cable. Very informative video.

I just got my Ginger set. I bought the bamboo to begin with until I was sure Tunisian was direction I liked. I had filled in a 7mm and a 4.5mm Ginger plus a Mindful cord (I connected some of the color coded cables to the Mindful and it was not bad though I will eventually buy all Mindful/swivel) and really liked the Ginger--and starting to do double ended Tunisian, found I preferred using 2 hooks cabled vs. the double ended hooks. So--bought the Ginger set to have 2 hooks of same size instead of having to deal with 2 that are close--but not the same. I really like the Ginger set.

After watching some of your videos on Tunisian Crochet I added the Denise hooks to my cart where they sat for months. Having kids of course all of my money goes to them and luxury items such as those hooks are putting into a never-ending holding pattern. Thankfully my mom bought them for me for Christmas last year and I LOVE them. She got me the pink version so we were able to support breast cancer research too. I like them so much I have even used them for a couple regular crochet projects. I did have to attach the smallest cord because the way I hold my hooks the end of the hook was causing a blister in the palm of my hand. I have a set of the long straight hooks and they hurt my wrist due to their length. I also have a set of a cheaper bamboo corded hooks but I found that where the tube is inserted over a notch and glued in place after extended use the tube would crack at the glue spot. I was able to cut it off and superglue the end back on, but you shouldn't have to modify or repair your hooks like that. I am very grateful I found the Denise hooks. Thank you for your videos and your honest opinions. I love watching and learning new stitches with you.

Just got into Tunisian Crochet and I am obsessed! I live in New Zealand, and honestly, the availability of Tunisian Hooks is severely lacking. I managed to get some ChiaGoo hooks from a small shop, and though I'd love to support local businesses, I knew if I wanted to really be able to explore all this method has to offer I needed to find a set, rather than buying single hooks. Thankfully Denise ships to NZ for a very reasonable price, so I treated myself! Loved this video, and your candid reviews are refreshing, so I know I made a great choice!

I love learning Tunisian Crochet from you. After seeing this video I bought one of the Denise Love 2 crochet sets. Since I am a knitter and I already have the full set of knitting needles I just bought the small set of crochet hooks and I love them!

I love my Knitter's Pride interchangeable knitting needle set, so I might have to give these a try! I believe all the Knitter's Pride and Knit Picks wood sets like this are laminated Birch wood

I have that Denise set in multicolor. I love these! I had so many reservations about plastic (tried some cheapo acrylic hooks in the day) but they are sooooo smooth AND sturdy. I also love having the ability to break down the cord easily when I'm on the go and between rows. Made many washcloths and a throw blanket with them and I am still very happy. No issues with the cord accidentally coming off mid row.

This is an older video but since I’m new to your channel it’s new to me lol. Anyway I wanted to say that you look radiant in pink. I love that color on you. One of the biggest issues I’ve found with Tunisian hooks is the length. I can’t get comfortable with shorter hooks. I’m new to Tunisian crochet and short hooks just don’t work for my long hands.

I jumped right into Tunisian crochet (thanks to you making it look so easy!) and got the Knitters Pride set in bamboo (which has a nicer case than the wood ones you reviewed), largely because it was the cheapest set. I mostly love it. I'm a Susan Bates partisan as well, so the pointy hook heads are nice, though I kinda wish it was a little smoother like the shaft of the hook. All the other sets are on my wish list (I have ordered one of the small Denise-to-Go sets to try). This is my favorite crochet channel. You have a really great voice, your product reviews are so helpful, and I you're an excellent teacher. You are now one of only 3 crochet designers that I follow. Can't wait to see your book!

Oh my goodness, I just bought a set of hooks and was thinking oh no I wish I had seen this video first. Luckily I bought your number one pick. I bought Denise in a dellaQ for double-ended crochet - 2nds Pink with pink cords for $57.80 on sale at her site. A total of 24 hooks. I’m so excited. I’ve been watching your Tunisian videos and I’m making a scarf. My first Tunisian hook is the same as your first one, it’s making my wrist hurt so I decided to make the investment. Thanks for the wonderful videos.

I struggle with the chorded hooks. I probably should give them another go since I tried them when first starting out. The one I used had a short hook and that was hard to adjust to. Ive been using a very long hook for years now! This was so informative and I'm so thankful for your channel. In watching this video I realized it was your channel I came to when trying to learn Tunisian crochet in the first place! How great! Thanks for everything!

I bought a set of the Denise pastels, I love them. It was after watching this episode I decided to get them. I live in Canada and even with the exchange rate I feel I got good value for my money. I also ordered extra cords in different lengths. When I go them one of my connectors was broke, I emailed Denise and they sent me a replacement out immediately and asked if they wanted me to send them the other one back they said no. All I can say is I am a life long customer now. Thanks Toni Yarny hugs from Deer Island New Brunswick Canada

I agree 100%! After looking at all of the sets available, I chose to get Denise Love2Crochet set and also ordered the extended cord collection set. I love them! They were a little pricey but are definitely worth it. I just finished my first tunisian crochet blanket utilizing this set's 52"long cord. (my blanket is 52"wide x 66"long). I'm super happy with how it turned out.

Wow!!! What a great video. You are absolutely the best reviewer I’ve heard on YT. Clear, knowledgeable, generous with all your knowledge. This video should be labeled “for references” bc it just covers all of my questions. I will take your advice on the starter wooden sets bc I’m just getting my feet wet on Tunisian crocheting. Thank you again. Will click on the link you provided.

I bought the knitters pride trends that are now discontinued. They are a resin material and the grip could be better. I prefer metal hooks like Susan bates. I really wish Susan bates made interchangeable Tunisians.
