Oh so many wonderful things to say about this video: - warm fuzzies every time I hear "hello, friends" - fits of giggles at the idiot who tried to pry the unlocked door - best reaction ever: build the idiot a door handle - best part of autumn for me is the summer overview - clogger's knife has the exact profile of a goblin shark - oh, by the way, how about a water mill? See Max, it's not just that you can make/design anything - it's because of the choices you make that you have become our hero.

a bear uses his weight and strength to push a door inwards this is why he made it open outwards. the idiot who tried to break in thought doors open inward and was effectualy of the same mind as the bear. the door was strong and i'm glad there wasn't a handle or he might have discovered the secret. i would imagine a person who forces entry would also rob you. i think the handle should go and a hole with a barbed stick hook should serve. just plug the hole when you leave.
@cleoharper18424 жыл бұрын
@@tuckermoreland147 Disagree. The thief (or whomever) will try to get in no matter what. With a handle the idiot won't break anything. Besides - this is the reason you pack in/out. No one ever leaves anything valuable in a cabin. And if someone needs to use it in an emergency, there is still a handle for them.

Cl0ckcl0ck a valid point . I am skeptical though, the door was not locked and most backcountry travelers know that if you take shelter in an empty cabin you leave it the same or better condition. "Why would someone want to break an unlocked door?" My family has experience with this unpleasant part of humanity also. We had a comfortable cabin in the middle of a treefarm, and have always left the cabin open and stocked for wanderers and explorers. We left kindling, firewood, LP gas, canned food, clean water, bedding and even some cards and board games in case someone wanted to spend the night. About 8 years ago, some low quality person(s) discovered it and ransacked it over the next few years. They stole a full 200 gallon propane tank, anything that had any value that they could carry, including firewood that they had to hike out. One of my neighbors confronted one of them while he was carrying the firewood out. Mindblowingly foolish... Firewood all over the woods and this fellow was carrying armloads from the cabin 1/3 mile through the woods. The ransackers went so far as to break every window out, remove the door from the hinges, and roll the woodstove through the opening and out onto the ground. There was much more damage than is worth typing out or reading about... Just know that if it could be broken, stolen, or ruined in some way, they did it. To answer the question "Why can't we have nice things?" I offer this answer... There is a small minority of humans who intentionally ruin the efforts of the rest of humanity for no benefit to anyone.
@rambooven42904 жыл бұрын
Wow. Tweakers are crazy man. "rolled the woodstove" made me chuckle along with the fire wood, idk if you were trying to be humorous however that really hit the funny spot. Did your family have a notebook or log that you left on the coffee table for people who visited it to write in?
@ParamjitandMichael4 жыл бұрын
@Shawn Patricio We did try to catch them up there twice with the help of neighbors keeping an eye. It's about an hour away from our home, and just couldn't catch them before they had finished their total destruction plan. The only further damage that they could do would be to burn down the shell of the cabin... Such a shame... Our family has a lot of years of great memories up there, but no more. We've decided that it's just not worth having an unattended home/cabin that's that far off the beaten path for us.
@ParamjitandMichael4 жыл бұрын
@@rambooven4290 Yeah, we thought it was insane enough to have an element of humor too. It happened just like that though. The woodstove weighs around 500 pounds, so we guessed that they had intended to steal it and just got tired out after rolling it out the door.

Max, your videos are pure therapy in a crazy stressful age. So more videos on literally any project you do would be instantly watched. What is valuable is a combination of your ingenuity in the creative adaptation process, then the meticulous planning and application of techniques, to functional conclusion. eg the pack frame which I thought not to watch initially, because I have a rucksack.... And by the end l'd learned how to carry overhead, on the back bulky awkward shapes, how to heat (not steam bend) wood with just traction, leverage, former logs and heat. Then splitting with axe and fro, hot wire hole burning, cordage with PET bottle tape and leading into my recent obsession THE CLAMPER! I would be interested if you could invent and explore the application of a clamper that could use the kind of quite large gauge fencing wire that is abundant in Scotland from derelict fences, I imagine much larger structures would be possible. The lashing together and creation of a lake going craft out of saplings and then the shots of you sailing off on the lake are like some Biblical allegory! A sailing raft building video would be most welcome. PS I've joined Patron to support your work. Many thanks for what you do my friend.

Regarding your waterwheel- If there is enough room vertically;it would be more efficient to turn the wheel in the other direction and have the water falling onto the far side of the axle. That way- 1. the water falls further and therefore has more kinetic energy when it hits the wheel,and 2. the forward momentum of the water in the feed channel towards the wheel's direction of rotation helps to turn the wheel rather than slowing it down. In the UK,that large,cranked socket chisel you use is called a "slick" and was/is used in shipbuilding for cleaning up very large joints and the edge is usually ground with a very slight curve to produce a better slicing or "shearing" action to remove wood more easily and with a better finish. It's great to see the amount of thought,effort and care you put into your projects. Thanks for another great video.

I use that also, the small sign on my car says " if you are reading this sign you have already been recorded on video with a close up of your face, Stay Away" and If I could post video I would show the results by a porch pirate/unlocked car door thief. Love Max's video very calming and wonderful examples how simple prep work will make very polished finished items. Thank you from Oregon , USA

Your projects are far more original and innovative than I could ever think of. I love watching you do this kind of work. Please don't let the jealous ones with no souls stop you. (They seem plentiful in this day, and only target those who excel at what they are and what they do.) That would be you...you are not just a national treasure, but are on a higher par than that.

Even though we’re just heading into winter properly (and I love winter) this has me wishing I was in this exact spot. What heaven you have in the forest. ♥️ PS: ever since I was a child, I’ve always wanted to go to Russia - when I first read about the taiga forest in an encyclopedia. I will probably never make it there but I just discovered your videos and it’s like a dream adventure to me. Thank you for sharing

There’s a TV show called ‘Alone’, where 10 people try to survive in the wild. The last one standing wins $500,000. If you were a contestant you would probably win. Most don’t last to 40 days. Thanks for sharing your knowledge. 🙏🏽🙏🏽🦘🦘

Yeah. Then there was that stupid "Survivor" show where those who truly had survival skills were quickly voted out by those envious ones who had none.

NOT a FAIR examination of what it takes to live 'ALONE.' Someone can 'build their heart out' and have to leave due to injury...or constipation. After about 40 Days, being alone tests human needs for family, companionship and sex. Then there is the matter of food sourcing over more than one season. This wonderful Russian craftsman uses a significant tool base (not a total of ten items to provide heat, shelter, safe water and food preparation/foraging/hunting/trapping.) I subscribe with contentment to THIS CHANNEL. I also subscribe to ALONE for a look at a wider package of skills.

I lived in a log cabin for many years in a remote forest in California. Visits by deer and bear were not as troublesome. I feed the deer in the winter months and they left my garden undisturbed in the summer time. The worst visitor came when I was in town getting supplies. These two legged critters found pleasure in breaking open the cabin and stealing my tools and spreading my belongings into the woods. After a few of these instances I eventually decided to travel the world. Now I live in a civilized country, Japan, were I have never locked my house in forty years. Love your work and philosophy.
