@desertplantsofavalon5 жыл бұрын
Hi Maria :-D Welcome to the fascinating hobby and passion of growing these incredible plants, and its not a dumb question at all as many miniature cacti varieties can stay very small almost their entire lives, but its always best to pot on the majority of cacti as they grow, and the miniature ones like to have a freshen up of soil at least every two years even if they have not outgrown their pots, as a change of soil gives them a boost and stops a build up of salts etc in their soils. thanks so much for your wonderful comment and for watching and sending you lots of love and happiness and PLANT POWER for a fantastic Monday today XXXX

What do you think it could be? What should I do about that?
@desertplantsofavalon5 жыл бұрын
@@thepipingbagbakery4399 Hi there :-D yes this sometimes happens on cacti especially the prickly pear Opuntia types like the 'Microdasys, it is almost always a common aesthetic corkiness that occurs due to slight different conditions and temperature changes, but sometimes it can also be caused from spider mite damage, these mites are not spiders but very tiny almost impossible to see 'mites' although it is most likely to be just harmless 'corkiness' its best to spray your plant with a insecticide to be on the safe side. You can use a environmentally friendly one like SB invigoratore or Horticultral Neem oil' especially for plants, these are both harmless to people, Bees and animals but target the 'bad pests' I have a couple of videos on these products here are the links to both vids XXX

I'm growing it in a shallow ceramic glazed cereal bowl with 3 other desert barrel types. He is only about 3.81 centimeters in diameter. No pests are apparent. I water him only when he's been dry for several weeks. He gets about 4 to 5 hours of direct full sun but it showing signs of light scotching so I don't think he's getting too little sun. will there be less mold in the soil in cactus pots since you have to water them less?

Hi there!! I am really enjoying your videos and I am excited to embark on the growing cacti from seed journey! Going to start the opuntia seeds I have in Feb just like your other video!! I purchased a Mammillaria from the garden centre and due to an unfortunate situation, some of its spikes on 2/3 of the cactus "pieces?" and I was wondering, is it possible for them to regenerate or is there something I could do to help the poor little lovely? it's growing despite the silly incident but yeah any thoughts would be SO much appreciated!!! Sending so much plant power happiness your way and I love the videos!!!

I keep my cactus on a cold kitchen window seal . No water . As soon as Spring kick off , I take them all outside in the garden . They enjoy the natural rain . Love Opuntia. I'm in sunny, arid Colorado (a succulent haven tbh... I struggle with so many humid loving plants, but succulents are perfect for our climate) and acquired O. basilaris and O. polyacantha planted in containers for my native plant garden. I think I will take some cuttings before winter to give me something to do and to have some insurance. Hopefully they do ok overwintering.

Hi 🙋♀️ I love your channel. It’s my favorite. I have a question, can I grow aloe veras in just lava rock, and pumice with a tiny bit of cactus soil dirt I bought from the store? Will they like that or will they suffer in it? I just took 6 of my aloes out of their pots and I want to put them in a more rocky environment to avoid root rot. Im one of those people who don’t water their cacti much. I water them once every 2 weeks in summer and I stop watering in winter all together.

Hi I am growing my cactus 🌵 from seed I have about 30 different types but I am wondering what you have your poly tunnel insulation with as where I live we can get temputare down to _5 so could you please let me know what you have used that you
@desertplantsofavalon5 жыл бұрын
Thats fantastic news Kaye that you are growing lots of different types of cactus from seed, that is so exciting and very rewarding to do :-D I fully insulate the polytunnel with two double layers of big bubblewrap on both the sides and the roof, and I also have foam carpet underlay on the tiled floor with a covering of Tarpaulin to stop the damp from rising up from the floor, I have a electric Polytunnel heater buy BioGreen that we put on if the temperature drops below 5c / 41 F and we also set it ona thermastatic so it comes on if the temperature drops below 5c / 41F if we are not in the house, its very efficient and cost effective compared to many other electric heaters, I will make a video in the next couple of weeks completely covering How I insulate and heat the polytunnel in Winter :-D thanks so much for your wonderful comment and for watching and sending you an abundance of love and happiness and PLANT POWER from across the Emerald Isle for a Super Saturday today XXXXX
