I want that one, and that one and I'll take a few of those ;) I have a bunch of big prickly pear and small bunny ears,and 10-12 other varieties. 240 cacti total. I hate the 1 day flower deal but its better than none. One of my echinopsis just bloomed 2 days ago. Thanks Lyn and Hans for making vids and sharing your collection with us. 👍🌵

I have only three cacti myself at the moment, but your video brought back vivid childhood memories of my father's large collection. I can still picture in my head the numerous yellow flowers of the Rebutia senilis var. kesselringiana (and I haven't forgotten the long name ;-)) or our joint efforts to stabilize a 20 year old Mammilaria hidalgensis… I live in a region where the climate is certainly not ideal for growing cacti, but perhaps I should courageously try to grow some Rebutia from seed :-) Thank you!

Desert Plants of Avalon thank you! Wishing you the same! Quick questions. After watching your video, I went to take a look at my microdasys and noticed a splattering of rusty yellow scarring on the main pad and the second row as well. Have you seen that? What do you think it could be? What should I do about that?
@desertplantsofavalon5 жыл бұрын
@@thepipingbagbakery4399 Hi there :-D yes this sometimes happens on cacti especially the prickly pear Opuntia types like the 'Microdasys, it is almost always a common aesthetic corkiness that occurs due to slight different conditions and temperature changes, but sometimes it can also be caused from spider mite damage, these mites are not spiders but very tiny almost impossible to see 'mites' although it is most likely to be just harmless 'corkiness' its best to spray your plant with a insecticide to be on the safe side. You can use a environmentally friendly one like SB invigoratore or Horticultral Neem oil' especially for plants, these are both harmless to people, Bees and animals but target the 'bad pests' I have a couple of videos on these products here are the links to both vids XXX

Hi Ryan :-D the square looking succulents are Crassula marnieriana aka the Baby;s necklace plant due to its little square stacked segments, its a beauty and has little pink flowers in the Winter time, thanks so much for watching and for your wonderful comment and have a fantastic plant powered Sunday XXXX

When you say "cold and dry" does that mean not watering them through the winter? I'm new in cacti .... It would be helpful if you kindly answer this.
@desertplantsofavalon3 жыл бұрын
Hi there, yes no water at all in Winter, these Cacti need a cool and dry rest period with no watering from early Fall/ Autumn until early Spring, thanks so much for watching and have a wonderful plant powered week XXXX
@GardengalAAA2 жыл бұрын
So should I not have them under grow lights in the winter? I understand the no watering and lower temps but the light aspect of it confuses me. Echeverias (not cacti of course) stretch in winter so I have to put them under grow lights. I was reading cacti can stretch too. So if you could clarify about the supplemental lighting in winter i would appreciate it. Thank you!

I love the Opuntia cacti! I really think they are underrated. Basilaris, santa rita, macrocentra are some of my favorite but i love all of them. I believe even pereskiopsis are in this genus.

Love Opuntia. I'm in sunny, arid Colorado (a succulent haven tbh... I struggle with so many humid loving plants, but succulents are perfect for our climate) and acquired O. basilaris and O. polyacantha planted in containers for my native plant garden. I think I will take some cuttings before winter to give me something to do and to have some insurance. Hopefully they do ok overwintering.

I keep my cactus on a cold kitchen window seal . No water . As soon as Spring kick off , I take them all outside in the garden . They enjoy the natural rain . My prickly pear plaquette was picked up in Marrakech back in 2011 . Forgotten in news paper for 6 months . It grew to 1.55 m high and collapsed last year .
