I am truly confused.. I live (rent) in BR as well as work, shop, laundry, etc.. and I do not agree that it is as expensive as you present. The rent is quite reasonable and definitely cheaper compared to many areas of BK!! The R train has never taken 2 hours, let alone a full hour to arrive to midtown Manhattan. In my opinion, it is not slow and is in fact one of the cleaner, nicer routes. There were recently repairs that closed several stations (mainly in Sunset Park) and caused closure later at night, but again, 2 hours? Never experienced. I understand your comments on diversity as many cultures live here but aren't always mixing;) Though I definitely patronize a variety of places in different parts of BR and yes, there are pockets of different people depending on which Ave/St you are located. Anyway, interesting video and I know you used statistics, but I do disagree with some as a Bay Ridgite. Thanks for showing BR!

I’m sorry, I lived in BR & worked in midtown for 28 years. YES it had taken me over 11/2 hours!!!! It is terrible, they are still doing Sandy work!!!

Bay Ridge also has access to the express bus routes into the city which make it much faster and more pleasant than the R line. Although it is more than twice the cost.

The parking and the dirt were the two reasons why I left. Born and raised there. I worked 4-12 in the Bronx. Wasnt taking a train there for safety reasons. I'd get back to Bay Ridge at 1 AM and spend 2 hours looking for a spot. Then I would have to walk 10 blocks to my house

I disagree. Bay Ridge is awesome. For example, check out all the restaurants on 3rd ave. And the R train is actually great-easy transfer to the N or D. Very little crime here too

You are clueless on the diversity involvement piece. Seriously, you couldn't be more wrong. Bay Ridge is known for sharing in all cultures, especially foods and community. Look at the ethnic restaurants in the neighborhood and you'll find that the vast majority of diners are not of that ethnicity. You need to correct yourself simply because bad information, on any level, is rampant and false perception is absorbed as fact. Various ethnic groups are notably mingling and interacting daily.

Ya think bay ridge is expensive, don’t look at park slope or Bklyn heights! Born n raised in bay ridge. I find far less expensive than even sunset park. I couldn’t even afford a place in sunset. The R train is def a con. I take the xpress bus on weekends to get into the city. (When I can afford it!)

I disagree with her about the diversity thing, everyone interacts with pretty much everybody, it's a very friendly place.The parking situation is horrible, be prepared to spend considerable time looking for a parking spot.The R and the N train have improved greatly, when I was younger we said the R train stranded for rarely and the N train stranded for never, but it has improved somewhat.

I hung out in Bay Ridge as a teen during the 1960's. Got my pad there in 1974. A studio apartment with yard and rent was $90/month with gas/electric included. It was almost exclusively Norwegian, Italian and Greek. No minorities that I ever seen except for WASP-y me. Lotsa stores including a swell Bohacks and Neergaard Pharmacy on 3rd Avenue. It was a safe neighborhood day or night. And having Cannonball, Bliss and Shore Road Parks so close, it was boss. Christmas lighting along Ridge Blvd, Colonial Rd and Narrows Ave was a treat though not as overstated like Dyker Heights. Even had ferries runnin' to S.I. before they built that bridge dubbed the Gui&*% Gangplank. Do I detect sarcasm in her video?

The only thing I'll agree with is the limited parking. I'm an east Indian and I've lived in Bay Ridge for 17 years. We have all ethnic groups faiths etc. Just look at the plethora of various restaurants. I ❤ Bay Ridge for its diversity. You're wrong here...move if u feel uncomfortable and you find it too costly??? Not so! The R train is an MTA issue call your mayor about that!

Did you know the most common factor in the most crime ridden cities in America is DIVERSITY! You can easily check, the least diverse cities and states in America like Maine, New hampshire, the Dakotas are the safest and happiest places to live. Diversity is the biggest con In America.

Thanks for the comment. Hmmm, I think you mean 'population' not 'diversity', ie the higher the population density of an area the greater the crime. But I agree that the higher the population density the more likely an area is to be diverse as well, because afterall jobs and opportunity is what leads to a high population density...no matter your background. I don't think diversity alone leads to more crime though.
@mikew4929
@mikew4929 Жыл бұрын
@@listwithchichi No m'am. The data clearly shows that diverse population centers have by far the most crime and the lowest social cohesion scores across the world without fail. It's basic human behavior. When new groups come into formerly homogenous areas they create tribalism and groups then self segregate and begin to compete for resources. If you look at the 25 highest crime municipalities in the USA you will find they are diverse, and the lowest 25 are homogenous. Take Tokyo for instance, it's one of the most populous cities on earth and has almost zero violent crime. Bay Ridge is experiencing the same social breakdown created by huge influxes of new Muslim and Chinese migrants with vastly different cultures and ways of life, who are driving the traditional long time residents to move to more homogenous areas in Jersey, Staten Island and elsewhere.
@listwithchichi
@listwithchichi Жыл бұрын
@mikew4929 I think there are too many confounding variables at play to single-handedly attribute an increase in crime to an increase in diversity. Also comparing Tokyo to the US without accounting for differences in cultural norms seems like a bit of a stretch (at least to me). I don't agree with your point and that's perfectly okay, diversity of thought and opinion is what makes the world that much more interesting (again, at least to me).
