Bay Ridge, Brooklyn is a neighborhood once known to be a mafia area. Not as much as other N.Y. places but nonetheless known. Peacock's was a favorite hang out of one time acting Colombo underboss/capo Jerry "Lang" Langella.

@Keith Courage RX-78-2 Red Hook is more desirable, so is the Downtown Area. The only reason that has stayed a nice area is due the Active Army installation. If it goes, that place will look like Camden.

I remember that coffee shop. Right across from Grand Union. I had a studio apartment in Bay Ridge from 1974 till moving upstate (not Sing Sing) in 1989. Rent in 1974 was $90/month with gas/electric included. Used to be a Steak-N-Brew there around 94th street back in the day. A swell video, brung back memories. Thanks.

Grew up in Park Slope and moved to 96th/3rd before leaving NYC in 2010. The neighborhood still had a good amount of Italians in it unlike Bensonhurst which is predominantly, Asian/Russian now. The Arabs are taking over the Ridge now tho.
@jackiemurphy1524
@jackiemurphy1524 Жыл бұрын
Bay Ridge was never “Italian,“ it was heavily Irish, then Dyker Heights was Irish/Italian, and then Bensonhurst was mostly Italian. Then when you got out by the benches it was heavily Jewish. Bay Ridge also had a lot of Greeks. In Brooklyn almost everyone has a friend/acquaintance with a nickname “The Greek, as in “John the Greek,” or “Steve the Greek”
@brooklynjim2099
@brooklynjim2099 Жыл бұрын
@@jackiemurphy1524 you're right about the demographics in Bay Ridge.. definitely more Irish then Italian... and don't forget about the Norwegians... but I think many Italians hung out in Bay Ridge.. which would give the illusion that they lived there to outsiders... I myself am Italian and Irish... lived in Brooklyn for the majority of my life and specifically in Bayridge for about 7 years (but hung out in bayridge my whole life - until this day)

Turned out the bus was out of service!!! We made every light for a mile… the bus was doing like 35 miles an hour… my hands and forearms were about to give out… thought I was dead…but thank god it finally hit a red light at 65 th street! Walked back and wound up in a sick fist fight outside Skinflint’s on 79th and 5th! Busted some guys head open… Ran from the cops and made it home!!! 1980s Brooklyn baby!
