@@bonebag1961 I'm told that most rocket-propelled grenades are understandably designed with a primer that only activates after it's been in flight for several seconds, just in case some moron jumps out of the trench in front of you and gets clocked in the back of the head. Aiming at your feet will lodge the grenade pretty firmly into whatever dirt you've aimed it at, but unless it's poorly made it should not be exploding until launched properly.

There was an exploit in Sonic Frontiers that people called the Homing Dash. It basically allowed Sonic to fly across the islands or cyberspace stages at unbelievable speeds. One of my favorite exploits is in the GBA port of Final Fantasy V, where you can force a random encounter encounter with an enemy called a Mover in the final dungeon by saving and reloading quicksaves. Movers drop 300 ability points, as opposed to most enemies which usually drop around 5 or less, allowing you to max out job classes in a matter of minutes.

There’s one in XC3. Spoilers ahead!!! Unlimited Sword makes Noah invincible temporarily. You share buffs with interlink partners when you interlink. If you make Mio a Signifer, give her the talent Art Glittering Melody, and give both the capable hands master skill, at the start of any fights, you can pass invincibility to the whole party, then pause the buff timer.

In Dead Island The prologue chapter, when you are first introduced to the zombies, you’re supposed to run like hell from the level 60 Walkers and Infected. However, there is a bedroom you can lead the zombies into, and you can jump on the bed to prevent them from hitting you. Start whaling on them, and you’ll soon find yourself SOARING up levels since having a level 1 character kill level 60 zombies translates to massive xp for you. Simply reload your last save to get them to respawn, then rinse and repeat to your heart’s content. Theoretically, you can use this to get a level 60 character before you even start the game, though the practically of the method starts to fall off around level 30.

You know what's funny about the Skyrim exploit is that Morrowind also had a very similar exploit. There's a city early on in Morrowind where you can create spells and by making a spell that increases your stats but setting the duration of said spell to 1 or 0 (can't remember which, it's been years since I played) the stat boost becomes permanent. So you can be low leveled and have all your stats be in the hundreds.

In Spark the Electric Jester 2, there's an exploit where if you cancel out your Homing Attack at just the right time with a Dash, you can launch yourself forward with incredible height and speed. This became really popular among speedrunners and was named "the Magnet Dash". The developer LakeFeperd did try to fix it initially in fear that it could lead to a bigger issue, but once he realized that it wouldn't, he chose to lean into it as a feature, to the point that he deliberately brought the Magnet Dash back as a gameplay mechanic in Spark 3.

I remember I once managed to discover an exploit shortly after Dungeons of Aether release. Whenever you entered the town, contents in the shop were randomly generated to increase replayability, which was clearly intended mechanic, considering you pretty much only returned to town after clearing a level. However, there were elevators to the town set before final bosses of the levels, that allowed you to prepare yourself before the fight. While the design intention was clear, there was one issue: shop generation algorithm would run WHENEVER you entered the town, which coursed an exploit that allowed you to leave and enter the elevator to randomise and restock shop everytime and allowed you to buy whatever you need at that very moment as long as you were persistant and RNG cooperated. That exploit has been fixed so far but it clearly showed that devs didn't thought that players would enter the same elevator more than once.

I started playing Prime remastered and that got me to watching all the Metroid month videos and then, feeling nostalgic, I kept going.. back to even the 2011 videos when I first subscribed. It somewhat pains me to see the low-ish numbers on these newer videos, but the pain is outweighed by the joy because not only do I realize that these videos have shaped my understanding of of video games that I haven’t played + have played, they’ve also lead me to choices that have created some of the best video game memories I have in my life, which lead on to solid foundations and passions in my life. What’s more is that the quality hasn’t dropped either. Sure the format has changed slightly more and more over the years, and the imprecise art of making content on a platform with an ever evolving landscape, algorithm and “correct” method of going about things has caused some visible changes in the way these videos are produced. But the quality still hasn’t changed. The commentary is still witty and insightful to say the very least, and there is still a thankfully noticeable passion behind Rabbid’s voice. That really is the best part. Thank you for continuing to do this for so long. I could go on and on about my memories with every single countdown and all the fun let’s plays and the highlight videos and all that but I’ve gone on long enough, so instead I’ll just say thank you once more.

It really bothers me when people call exploits and emergent scenarios glitches. So thank you for establishing the difference and making it clear. Anyway, one of my favourite and well known exploits is the Toyota RSC Rally Raid Car in GT4. It is famous for being obtainable from a relatively early-game event that’s also relatively easy… and then be sold for a truck-load, allowing you to break the game economy wide open through grinding the event! Someone did a speed run recently to see how quickly you can get to it, and they pulled it off in about half an hour. It’s kind of crazy how much this busts the game!

I think there's a money gain exploit too in Undertale, where if you have that item in your inventory you get after the "Annoying Dog" absorbs the "artifact", you can use that item to spawn any amount of the item it spawns, as long as you have inventory space to hold it in. You can then sell those items to the Tem Shop (the only shop in the game that will buy your items from you, as Undertale makes fun of common game tropes and mechanics) for money. While the individual selling of the spawned items don't sell for much, you can repeat this exploit indefinitely, as long as you have the inventory space to hold the items and don't sell the item that spawns them. So, if you have the time and patience, you can get all the money you want just by this method

One of my favorite exploits in a recent game is the “cliff jump” glitch in Elden Ring. Essentially, for some reason, jumping off a certain cliff that you can only reach by doing a super specific jump on your horse doesn’t kill you. Instead, you will fall infinitely, and attacking while falling repeatedly allows you to rack up a bunch of grace to climb a bunch’ve levels in a short amount of time. I don’t know if it’s patched nowadays, but it’s a pretty handy exploit for the game’s tougher bosses. Another recent one I dig specifically for speedrunning is an exploit in RE4 Remake that lets you skip 75% of chapter 14 by opening the locked gate to the lift without taking the intended path to the other side with the long wrecking ball segment and through the garbage disposal. Which only leaves the boss fight against Krauser for said chapter. In fact, doing this makes it so you avoid fighting the Iron Maiden for the whole game, as the intended path is the only area where you encounter it.

Hilariously, _Morrowind_ had a similar exploit involving using potions to fortify your Intelligence, which let you make better potions to fortify your Intelligence, which eventually leads to the most best-er Intelligence potions that put the stat into the THOUSANDS for literal years in-game. At that point you could just make any potion you liked or just create gear that was enchanted to all buggery before you ever started playing the game. In _Oblivion_ this was removed by putting a cap on how many potions you could drink at once, but we all saw what happened when the next one came out . . .

I remember a fun one from Final Fantasy Tactics. I don't generally enjoy the act of breaking the game so I don't often do it, preferring a natural progression of strength for my units. FFT being a strategy RPG like the Fire Emblems means you gotta build up your units and get your abilities piecemeal, fight on a grid, swap class, etc etc. Most will know what an SRPG is. Every time you perform an action, you get JP (job points), which you spend to earn abilities in a job. I believe the trick works like this: You can do this with any list of abilities that allows you to scroll down more than a page. Jobs like Time Mage, Summoner, and Black Mage for example. If I remember it correctly (and it might lean more into glitch territory), you choose a skill you wish you purchase. Hit confirm and it will ask you if you are sure. While on this screen you hold Square (the "page up/down" button) and move page up or down over to another skill as long as it isn't one you own (might not matter, I forget). Then you confirm that skill you selected. Suddenly, you'll have that skill you initially selected... and 9999 JP to buy everything else.
@IWasCaptainPanda
@IWasCaptainPanda 6 ай бұрын
That's definitely a glitch and not an exploit. An exploit in FFT would be something like how you can have Ramza learn Yell/Tailwind to boost speed on himself and then the rest of the party, for the rest of the fight, and have all your party members spam similar permabuffs or items or weak attacks against each other five or six times for every one move the enemy got and run up XP/JP that way.

Favorite exploit I can think of, off the top of my head, is taking down the Reaper superboss in Persona 5 (original, not Royal)... by hunting him down during Flu season. Flu season means all enemies have a high chance of being inflicted with the Despair status - and the Reaper is susceptible to this. Despair prevents an enemy from acting at all, and after 3 turns it instantly dies. So... wait for the Reaper to spawn, get in an encounter with it, and if it's got the status applied, you automatically win, getting a ridiculous amount of XP and money (plus a chance to get a powerful accessory). Sadly, they did remove this in Persona 5 Royal... but it's still fun just to think of defeating the literal incarnation of Death because it got too sick to fight.

The Ultima games have many amazing exploits, but I'll just mention a couple of them. In Ultima III (as in some of the other games in the series), it can start off as a bit of a slog, as you need to keep your characters fed and have enough gold to purchase equipment and healing. However, in this particular entry, you can create new party members (up to a certain amount) in the menu, and each new character comes equipped with a set amount of gold and food rations. So, one way to make the early part of the game easier is to create new characters, give their gold and food to your existing characters, and then delete those extra characters now that they're no longer useful. You can repeat this process as long as you want, and, while tedious, it makes the game much more manageable in the long run. The other exploit I'll mention is from Ultima V. Arguably the hardest game in the series, you'll be wanting for resources when you begin the game, but there's an easy method to remedy this. By going into the basement of Castle Britannia, you can steal gold from the treasury, escape the castle to de-aggro the guards, and then repeat the process ad nauseum. Of course, this will quickly lower your karma to 0, but you'll eventually have more than enough gold to comfortably go to the nearest shrine and donate to it until you get your karma back up to max.

Yeah I kinda expected the Fortify Restoration Potion Loop to be at Number 1. For anyone who doesn't/hasn't played Skyrim, the stuff Rabbid showed off for the segment, that isn't even close to what this Exploit and the Alchemy Skill are capable of. This loop lets you turn your character into a Living God that puts the Tibunal and Talos to shame. That's also part of the reason I don't use this exploit, Skyrim stops being fun if I'm able to casually bitch slap any foe into dust at a moment's notice. How about "Danger Mario" builds from Paper Mario The Thousand Year Door? Pair it with Multi Bounce, Spike Shield, and Ice Power and you are effectively unstoppable.
@ClefairyRox
@ClefairyRox 6 ай бұрын
I wouldn't call that an exploit, because those badges are being used as intended, and Pianta grinding still takes a fair bit of time. Plus, you also have to build Mario specifically for that by repeatedly increasing his BP (which, to be fair, is the best stat to increase most of the time) and 5 HP means Mario is one attack away from Game Over in the late game, so it's a high-risk high-reward strategy. And TBH, that's not even the most broken thing you can do in that game. I watched a TTYD speedrun and it uses Yoshi with Mega Rush P badges and Point Swaps to get him to 1 HP so he shreds all the bosses with insanely strong Ground Pounds.

Friendly fire from La Pucelle Ragnarok. Basically, this game has zero drawbacks for having player units kill each other. In fact, it's extremely beneficial. It provides player and item EXP that scales with the victim's level. It gives you easier access to higher level dark worlds. You can even instantly recover by leaving the map to swap the roles and continue the chain indefinitely. It makes grinding to fight Baal a lot easier. The downside is that localization of the original game added two extra boss fights that turned this from a cool secret into something that's borderline mandatory- DISGAEA Baal in name only is twice the level as regular Baal and Phantom Baal is unlocked right after that fight with a similar difficulty spike. The game also has another exploit: once you become Demon Lord, you obtain an item that gives infinite move when equipped. You can unequip it without wasting your unit's action and the effect is triggered the moment you equip it to someone else, so you can give your whole army infinite movement with just one item. It's one of the most hilariously broken things in any tactical RPG I've ever played.

Morrowind has in my opinion a better exploit... it at least requires even less steps than the super enchants from Skyrim does. Acquire any spell that gives you any stat you want also acquire any spell that can be cast on target. Put a 1 second buff on self spell of the desired stat also put the on target effect cast it at your feet and bam you permanently gained that buff that is only supposed to last a second, each time you cast it you additively gain the same bonus. You can max out or go beyond max on every skill with this and it requires about 130 gold to get started and in the starting town you can easily get a quest for 300 gold that you can complete in 5 minutes. You can have a character with all maxed stats while still level 1 in about an hour if you wanted to. Another solid exploit was once you get the Summon Golden Saint spell if you kill it you have about 1/4 a second where you can access it's inventory and acquire glass or ebony weapons depending on what they spawn with. If you are too slow the inventory will despawn or if you do it at exactly the right (wrong) moment the game crashes instead.

I do not think that Nintendo were wrong to eliminate Wavedashing from future Smash games. Wavedashing just makes the competitive a hard and non-accessible side of the fan base. That works for a game without online multiplayer, but it doesn't work for one with an online component.

It really isn't a hard mechanic to learn, it's technically still in ultimate just not useful. They could've had instructions on how to use wave dashing if they were worried about it being confusing and difficult to use.
@toumabyakuya

@@666blaziken Thing is that Wavedashing is basically the beginning of all the complex techniques in Meele. Said game's competitive is not that welcoming thanks to that. You also have to remember that, unlike Ultimate, Brawl had no way to separate the casuals from the competitive online, so a casual could easily be curbstomped by a competitive player and discouraged from playing Smash further.

@@toumabyakuya it's one of those things you just have to learn through experience. Most fighting games have a technical barrier, and removing that would just make the game less deep, and is a turn off for high level players, they'll still play it but it's a game that won't be as satisfying to master. So the best thing to do is allow for a lot of advanced mechanics with enough of an indicator and instruction on how to learn said mechanic. Sf6 does a really good job of this and is one of the most popular street fighter games because they were able to bring casuals into competition due to the ease of learning the game via the story mode and training mode options.

In Legacy of Kain Defiance speedruns players use a glitch within the time portals to skip entire parts of levels. Course when I explain it I'm terrible at it. So go watch a speedrun of the games and find someone who explains this bug and just how exploitable it is. Granted I've no idea if this counts as an exploit per say. But a 'bug' that speedrunners use in Quake was here so hey maybe it counts then. If anybody can explain the Legacy of Kain time portal exploit better than me, then by all means do so. I'm a lurker in that fandom at best really.

Nintendo, the company most *obsessed* with Legacy and "Professional Quality", is also the company with the most positively famous gltiches of all time. It's almost like some cosmic karma, with how obsessed they are with punishing fans and retroactively changing things XD

They literally kept glitches in for authenticity in the 3DS Ocarina of Time remake, and the infinite 1-Up glitch mentioned in this video was confirmed as being intentional during development, so I don't know what you're talking about- out of the big developers, they're probably the one to embrace these kinds of things the most. I swear, it's like people actively look for reasons that provably aren't actually there just to hate on Nintendo, it's exhausting at this point.
