I absolutely adore the Deathpact Angel. The character I have permanently on standby for use in the event of a Ravnica campaign is a Conquest Paladin who technically an Orzhov member, but is really devoted and loyal only to a particular Deathpact Angel. Even without owing her a debt to repay, he'd gladly throw down his life (and anyone elses) if it meant achieving her goals. Great opportunity to play around with the Dark Lady and Black Knight trope and really have some fun with it. Kind of a surprisingly rare thing in D&D.

Yay coatl gang!!! They are so under represented in DnD games. (Thanks from my Water Genasi Celestial Warlock who has a coatl patron!!!) Also I wish there were more official summonable (low CR) celestials because the spell conjure celestial at base can only summon Pegasus and couatl. But the new Theros book added 2 new celestials as well.

Kobold Press's original Tome of Beasts actually has more celestials (12) than WotC has released in all three of its monster books combined (8). In fact, WotC has released more celestials (14) in products other than its own monster books. Edit: As a point of comparison, Tome of Beasts has about 410 statblocks vs around 782 between the three official monster books.

There's really not a huge non-angelic selection from the real world. Typically you only have gods and their mortal servants. I am still somewhat surprised that Modrons aren't considered celestial. They tick a lot of the boxes of divine servitude. Also surprised that Ki-Rin didn't make the cut. The original Asian stories around them point to their mere presence being the basis for an entire campaign, heralding the birth or death of great leaders. Whatever they lack in raw power they make up in excellent story potential.
@Logandroid4 жыл бұрын
I can't really blame them. There's not a whole lot you can really do with celestials in terms of adventuring.
@artificerprime41544 жыл бұрын
@@Logandroid You can blame them, because evil celestials are and can be a thing, as shown with the deathpact angel and the radiant idol.
@derekstein61934 жыл бұрын
@@artificerprime4154 True. One can even argue that fallen angels are still celestials. Zariel for instance. I think that being a celestial is more about origin than what they do.

That Deathpact Angel would make an outstanding Warlock patron. Puts a different spin on the Celestial Warlock subclass. Also, you're in good company for liking Couatls. I'd recommend you look into the Eberron setting if you're not already familiar with it. They are very important in that world's lore.

How does that even work? Like, do they have a Coatl parent, or is it like Teifling or Aaisimar where it is more of a curse/blessing? Is it kinda like celestial Yuan-Ti? Because how does one *do* *it* with a Coatl?

In my homebrew game, one of the military captains has two coautls that are disguised as flying snakes. They are his inner conscious/trusted Council members and they have kept him alive for almost 500 years due to a prophecy of the captain training the party to fight agains the BBEG.

I really liked the Couatl and created a character based on its lore. Sea-Elf Mercy-Monk Inheritor, that was tasked by a Couatl to help him find a mate, as the Couatl knows its death is coming fairly soon. I played it off, that the couatl bestowed the "monk" knowledge upon the sea-elf and think mercy-monk was very apt for that. Fierce protection, but ultimately begnin in their nature.

Fun fact, the forgotten couatl god is the opposite LG being to Asmodeus, 2 snake like beings existed Tasked with finding a true or most lawful approach to what I don't recall maybe how to deal with the demon problem or the abyss. Anyway One had wings the other not. Long story short Asmodeus was not the winged serpent thrown from a the literal cosmic heavens by said winged snake, crashed through 8 layers of the 9 hells and rests and the bottom, consolidating his eternal wounds, the Asmodeus you know is just his Avatar.
