An EDC firearm is probably the most important tool that you never hope to use. These are the top 5 upgrades I do to all my firearms and why I do them. I am a firm believer in using technology to maximize any advantage I can get over a potential adversary. The upgrades are not only relatively inexpensive but most of them can be done at home without the need for a professional gunsmith.

If you run a CZ, you have to check out Rushby Industries. Local Capetownian making world class and internationally sought-after CZ internals and externals. I've upgraded most of my P-07's parts, with his, and each one has improved it. I believe he's started doing Glock and Canik as well now.

I have a question. Weapon lights are used to defeat darkness as you said. However, if you must first identify a threat before you can point your gun/light combo to engage someone. How do you go about that?

You need to make the best decision you can with the information you have available. For instance, if I am in a shopping mall and the power goes out, then I am gonna use my handheld but if I hear a window break in my living room at 2am then I will most likely use my WML. The thing is that there is no perfect rule for every situation, you have to use good judgment, situational awareness, maturity and ensure that you have the tools required to cater to most situations. That's why a handheld is as important as a WML.

I made 3/4 shots against C-zone steel targets yesterday at 75yds with my Glock 45 running an RMR. I couldn't do that with iron sights, the front sight would be larger than the target at that point. Hell, the Trijicon irons I run black out a B8 target at 25yds.

Red dots are crazy expensive in SA. I added a light/laser on my carry pistol

Solid post up and opinion with detail. I am appreciating the SA angle of EDC vs where I reside to see how you culturally and critically approach your craft vs the US.

I carry a P10c with a weoponlight, i carry a flush fit mag in the gun (helps with concealment) and extended baseplates on my spare mags. I decided not to get a red dot, but to rather spend that money on a reloading machine and components. Ive got 8000 rounds through my pistol now and im pretty proficient with it. One day I'll upgrade to a dot but as it stands i shoot better with my irons than everyone i know who has a dot, because i practice with my irons a lot more than they practice with their dots.

As for weapon lights here’s my thoughts. Chances are in a civilian defense situation I’m not gonna be drawing and shooting quickly after dark. I’m much more likely to pull my light out first to identify a threat before I ever reach for my gun. I don’t wanna have to pull my gun just to light up a dark area and see what’s around me. This is why I run a handheld bc I’ll draw it first, light up and area, and if there’s a threat then I’ll draw my gun and fire. There’s just not many situations I can see where it’s absolutely imperative thst I have a light on my gun as a civilian. Leo or military is totally different

So you hear a glass break at 2am in your house, I assume you have your gun in your right hand and your flashlight in your left - what happens if you need to open a door or need to fix a stoppage? What happens if you need to reload? How good are you at shooting accurately and quickly with just 1 hand? Have you actually run drills on multiple targets with a time constraint, in the dark and had to point a hand held and firearm at different targets and then engage them with "no shoot" targets near them? There is no reason you need to use your weapon light to search administratively, that is why you carry both a weapon light and a handheld. Also, your base idea that you arent gonna be drawing and shooting quickly as a civilian is so incredibly flawed. 99% of the time as a civilian there is a requirement to draw and shoot quickly and multiple times. I encourage you to go to a low light range, draw you hand held and then your firearm, fire 5 shots as fast as you can at 10m with one hand while aiming your flashlight as well. Tell me how that goes, In fact - do it at a well lit range, record yourself and watch it back. Most people have a HUGE misconception about how good they think they are gonna operate with one hand. I find there are 2 kinds of people who dont need weapon lights, people who have absolutely zero training and people who are extremally well trained and have operational experience.

TREX arms is by far the best. I’ve tried every holster out there and they are the most comfortable. Their mission is a plus as well.

Hey there, great video but I wanted to comment on something. When you're doing one handed shooting, I noticed that you're keeping your left foot forward and this leads to either a lot of tension in your right arm or to what I call tactical gangster shooting. This leads to your pistol recoil being less predictable. What I recommend is that you instead put your right foot forward (opposite of shooting hand), this will relieve that tension in your right hand allowing you to have a more vertical recoil impulse. When doing this, I also recommend you keep a slight bend in your arm whilst trying to keep your elbow in the same vertical line (think of avoiding chickenwinging essentially). This will help you absorb and recover from recoil a little faster than just with your shoulder. Overall though, great shooting and I love that you're staying aligned to the target and not blading your stance.

Great video, for those starting out, I would say one other thing that should be included and one of the most important, is ammunition selection, as poor quality Weill have a net deficit
