the playstation beats that flip camera. Sony and Nintendo was making a playstation console together. But then, without telling Sony, Nintendo discontinued the product just before it was announced. Sony actually wen't on stage, giving a presentation of a product that was already discontinued, something they where only informed of after they held the keynote. Thusly, this product lasted negative a few days compared to the announcement press-conference. (fun fact: Sony had no intention of ever making a console on their own, but when they where approached by Nintendo they agreed to do it. However, after Nintendo screwed them over so badly, they made the PS1 on their own, out of spite)

Even then it only has made a small blip on their usage stats. It amounts to maybe 3 minutes a month more per active account on average. So people on average use Google+ about 7 minutes a month now. Which is almost a doubling, but double nothing is still nothing... Keep in mind that for other social networks, 7 minutes is terrible. On Facebook the average user spends 400+ minutes a month using the site. Twitter and Pinterest are also in the multiple 100's of minutes a month. Also... do they distinguish between posting on video comments versus posting on Google Plus itself? I doubt it. So the average user's usage probably hasn't changed at all. The only reason why Google Plus is still functioning is that Google throws huge amounts of money and resources at it.

Another tech stillborn product was the Sony Elcaset in 1976, which was to replace the popular compact cassette, developed by Phillips and Sony. The Elcaset was to use 1/4 inch tape, have twice the speed, and have direct drive - all for better sound reproduction for audiophiles. I even saw a full page ad for it. It would have required all new player/recorder machines, also. But the product never appeared. But in 1982 Sony and Phillips announced the Compact Disk, which we still have with us today (though fading).

Now that is a format I truly forgot about, but yes I do remember it. Metal tape, and later Dolby C noise reduction (along with Dolby S and dbx) vastly improved the performance of the Philips Compact Cassette. The frequency response went past 20Khz with a very low noise floor on a truly good 3 head deck. However reel to reel still had cleaner audio. Good call though!

Derek Price Apple Products are notorious for their quality, build, and user friendly interface. I can say that yes some of the things that apple releases are "junk" or "trash" but there is a lot of great things that apple has released that has changed technology over time. For example apple was the first the introduce x64 bit processing to a mobile platform. Im pretty sure that samsung would have never had the balls to do that? I mean look at them now, they are copying the design of the iPhone including the "bendgate". So its pretty evident they are followers. Windows Vista... IMO, it wasn't half as bad as Windows 8 is. Especially on good hardware. Most of the problems like the UAC pop-ups can be fixed with third-party software, extended support for Vista is still active, and copies can usually be picked up for bargain prices.

Obama had one) it was better capable than the iPod in many ways; though MS discontinued making the devices zune technology still lived on in windows mobile phones and by extension: zune music which became xbox music, in XBOX, XBOX360, and XBOX ONE. The ZunePass subscription service, the first of it's kind now common, is also still working as 'xbox music'.

There was a time where the Zune was a better product than the iPod. Problem was that Microsoft absolutely sucked at marketing their products. To this day they make really stupid mistakes. Their products have bugs, or lack obvious features, or their pricing is just way off. Basically someone needs to start firing people at Microsoft.

I still have my Virtual Boy and it works like a dream! One of my all-time video games, Mario Clash, is on the system. During a regular trip to Kmart to go get groceries shortly after the VB came out, my dad put a big box and a smaller box inside the cart. I looked at it, and it was a Virtual Boy and a copy of Mario Clash. I asked my dad why he put it in the cart and he said, "because I thought it looked cool." Over twenty years later, and I still have it. It gets tons of play of Mario Clash and Mario's Tennis from me even today. It is a terribly underrated system and doesn't deserve the hate it gets a lot

I use a Samsung S4 and it still to this day is highly reliable. If a part goes bad I just replace it. It was like one time and it was when I spilled water on the micro USB port.

I agree I am not sure where he is getting 1 year cycle on mobile phones (yes they do make a new phone every year but the old one is not discounted right away) but updates on the other hand do generally stop after 2-4 years (so the new phone you just bought might not be getting any security updates) the s5 and s5+ is still getting security updates (just got one on mine for this month)

I love my HP TouchPad. WebOS, while it did multitasking very well, was otherwise a pile of crap so I see why it sold off like it did. The tablet itself was very nice, same size and form factor as the iPad, built in wireless charging, large battery, and good amount of storage. Once you put Android on it it's a great tablet and it became one of the most open source friendly tablets ever after the fire sale. It had Ubuntu, Arch, Android, WebOS, Ubuntu Touch, Fedora, and many other Linux distros ported to it. It was one of the first to see an open source GPU driver (freedreno). HP TouchPad is a classic case of bad marketing and how strictly clinging to an outdated and unwanted software platform can ruin an otherwise very nicely designed product.

joebonsaipoland It uses a Qualcomm APQ8060, equivalent to the popular MSM8660 chip that was found in most 2011-2012 smartphones. Obviously it doesn't compare against newer quad core chips due to that, but I do have CyanogenMod 11 on it and it still does all the things I would use a tablet for (browsing, video, e-mail, light gaming, video chat, etc) just fine. It wasn't exactly the best build quality (all plastic case design that was prone to cracking) but for the fire sale price it was a great cheap tablet at a time when there really were no decent cheap tablets like there are today.

Its not VR either, its a stereoscopic game player. VR has the virtual world wrap around you and your head/body movements are reflected in the game world. The Virtualboy is more like a viewmaster or the old Tomytronic 3d goggle games with a fixed stereo image. Actually its very similar to those Tomytronic games.

+vector6977 My problem with it was that when you have a Genesis, Sega CD, and 32X, then you have these three AC adapters to try and plug in somewhere... and those Sega adapters were absolutely huge. Sega seemed optimistic though... enough so that they even made 32X CD games (the only one I ever bought was Fahrenheit) which greatly improved the video quality on all those FMV games which were so popular on Sega CD. Now it all just sits in storage.

Google Wave was marketed as a collaborative sharing experience. More of a document/wiki than a social network. The biggest problem was explaining the concept to people. We already had Wikis, Microsoft Word change tracking, email, and chat. This was somewhere between all of that. It would have required major workflow changes and education on users part to make it a viable product, as well as a sharper definition of what its intended use is.

Good job! You mentioned Win Vista! Yeah, I hated that OS! In fact, when I ordered a custom-built HP laptop I asked the salesperson if I could upgrade to XP, and they said, "You mean downgrade to XP?" and of course I said, "No, I would like to wipe the drive and install XP which is FAR better than Vista. So I want to upgrade to XP." It turned out that HP didn't make drivers for the volume and screen brightness buttons for XP so I couldn't really use the laptop with XP...unless I was okay with the screen brightness being stuck at one level and the other buttons (like: play/pause, FF, RW, etc.) not working either.
