Bought a Profitec Pro 700 with a Ceado C37J grinder in late September from WLL and I love them both. I've made some really good shots after I've dialed in the grind (doing that really does make a difference). I drink two different drinks primarily (lattes on weekend and long blacks during the week). I discovered that two different blends of coffee are better suited for each drink drinks from the roaster I use (Caffe Ladro in Seattle - Diablo for the long black and House Espresso for the latte). But the good news I guess is that keeps me on my toes and forces me to dial in every time I have to switch the coffee so it keeps me making the best coffee possible. Only downside of owning these is my coffee consumption is WAY UP. Thanks WLL for all the video reviews and advice and all the chats and phone calls when I was trying to decide which machine to buy.

Hi David, Thanks for the detailed comment and your patronage! Just to be clear, I believe your grinder is an E37J: www.wholelattelove.com/products/ceado-e37-j-electronic-coffee-grinder-in-black The Pro 700 is a fine machine and pairs well with Ceado grinders featuring burrs at 64mm or larger. Dialing in as you have found is crucial to get the best from any coffee. I run into a lot of people who set and forget their grind size - they're missing out! You are welcome for reviews and advice. We do our best to help everyone regardless of their skill level! Marc

Another awesome video. Thanks to the advise on your videos I recently upgraded my rocket appartamento to an ECM Synchronika. Nothing against the rocket it was an awesome little machine and a great step in my home coffee journey but the ECM Synchronika is truly an end game dream machine. The build quality is superb, its truly a beautiful machine and paired with whisper silent operation and steam power that seems capable to make a whirlpool in a bathtub I couldn't be happier with my purchase. Fitted with flow control and partnered with an e65s grinder I have been using your flow control profile recipes and I am making truly beautiful coffee at home (I might be biased but I think better than what I can get from a lot of cafes). Living in Australia that says a lot for the quality of coffee the Synchronika can produce. Keep up the awesome videos (especially the flow control recipes if you come up with more profiles) and finally if you ever feel like opening a shop in Australia that would be much appreciated 🙂

Hey Marc, firstly a great video as always. I am a home barista and I am stuck in deciding between Rancilio Silvia V6 and Profitec 300. My purpose of espresso machine is to learn coffee, make some coffee beverages and eventually sell coffee in my community of 500 flats which means I might look for pulling 20 shots max over a day maybe after 6months. Need your advice on which one to go for considering the aftersale support locally and budget.
@Wholelattelovepage
@Wholelattelovepage 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Click, Thanks for the kind comment! Between those machines the Pro 300 is a better choice. The Silvia is a single boiler so one cannot brew and steam simultaneously which slows down speed of production. The Pro 300 is a dual boiler so it can do both at same time. Be aware the Pro 300 is not a commencially rated machine but should have no problem doing 20 shots a day. Marc

A year ago I bought the Profitec Pro 700 from WLL and boy I love this machine. I don’t get all the hate this machine gets from Lelit owners. Both machines are great, you get some extras when you get the Lelit Bianca but that’s. In my eyes if you compare them side to side they’re almost the same. I wouldn’t mind own either of them. Good job Marc!

I think the Lelia Bianca fans would have a point if the machine was $300 cheaper in the US. In Australia, there is a sensible price spread between the Bianca, the 700 and the Synchronika. It should be the best way to get a full featured machine on a budget, but it is built like a 10 year machine, not a 20 year.

@@brittanybutler2211 The 700, Synchronika and Bianca are all dual boiler machines with 750-800ml brew boilers. You use around 60-80ml of hot water all up for each shot, so it can reheat the incoming water quickly. My Synchronika recovers temperature by the time I can grind and tamp the next shot.

I miss hear Lelit Bianca. In the price range that you have it’s one of the best choices for the money. Good quality boilers, PID, a lot of additional accessories and manual flow profiling level. Great overview as always Marc. I have the ECM Synchronika and it is a lovely machine and highly capable. There are a handful of things that I think ECM could do to bring it to that next level. Mine came from the factory pulling shots at around 10 bar at the group. Pulling this back to 8.5-9 made a world of difference. Definitely going to want to upgrade the group gasket to silicone as the rubber stock will get sticky after 6m. The bottom of the drip tray lid is quite sharp, which seems a missed opportunity given how much you handle it and how great the finish is elsewhere. And finally I think it needs some rubber over the runners where the drip tray sits on the machine or else it rattles. All small things that don’t effect the amazing performance (except the brew pressure!). At this price point I think they are super small inexpensive improvements that really just finish the product perfectly! Great machine regardless.
@Wholelattelovepage
@Wholelattelovepage 2 жыл бұрын
Hey BD, Thanks for the comments! Not sure where you purchased your machine but we prep all our Synchronikas to 8.5 bar brew pressure with blind filter running from reservoir. That'll get you about 9 bar when running from plumbed in line. The silicone gasket is a nice upgrade and as you mention the stock gasket will have to be replaced at some point anyway. The drip tray supports do have the stainless slides. I have not experienced rattling from those - could it be coming from elsewhere? The machines we ship have a butterfly bolt holding down the motor to prevent shipping damage. It's a butterfly bolt under the machine - many customers miss the instructions to remove that. Leaving it in causes extra vibration as it compresses the rubber motor mounts. Marc

@@annenominous7220 well I had a 2017 Mini, which had no pid and to be honest was a bit of a whim😅 it’s pretty, well built and reliable, has a Marzocco badge but is very expensive for a limited control on your extraction. Trading an old Mini and spend again a ridiculous amount of money for a new Mini would have been stupid. So I ended up making what I think is a smart choice : selling my non pid Mini to cover the price of a brand new Matrix. Bezzera has a solid reputation and very reliable group, and the Matrix came with everything I was looking for and even more control and customization I thought it had. Now if I had the connected Mini, I wouldn’t trade it for a Matrix.

Hi Marc. Love your videos. Great production value. Debating on getting a ECM Synchronika Espresso Machine With Flow Control and maybe a Ceado E37SD grinder or a Crem ONE DUO-V with a Eureka Oro Mignon Single Dose Grinder. I didn't see the normal bundle discount on the Ceado E37SD grinder when paired with the Synchonika. Not sure if the discount is not available for that espresso machine or if the website coders forgot to add the discount. I'm a newbie and probably don't yet have the discerning taste buds as others. Hi David, Thanks for your patience and your kind comment! Also, thanks for bringing the missing bundle discount on the grinder to our attention. If you call in, a member of our sales team can assist you with that. If you appreciate quality products, the Synchronika and Ceado grinder are the top of the line. Start there and you'll likely never experience "upgraditis"! Are you jumping in deep? Perhaps. But higher-end equipment is more consistent so it's easier to use than lower-end gear. Hard to quantify the importance of increased consistency to a particular user and whether it makes financial sense to pay more for a "better" product as everyone's situation, desires and taste buds are different. Mark, if I'm not mistaken the entry level dual boilers in this video have vibrating pumps. I have had a single boiler for years, the Silvia with a PID I installed myself, and have been considering going to double boiler. Should I be going with rotary pumps? My initial thought is, if I'm gonna spend significant money to upgrade the machine, seems to me I should be going for rotary pump. I'm guessing besides being quieter the rotary would last much longer than vibration? Your thoughts always appreciated. thx
@Wholelattelovepage
@Wholelattelovepage 2 жыл бұрын
Hey mr x, Thanks for the question. Rotary pumps are quieter than vibration and long term more reliable. Thing is, if you ever had a vibration pump fail they are very easy to replace and inexpensive. There are some other benefits with a rotary pump. Most machines using them are plumbable direct to water line. ECM and Profitec machines with rotary pumps can do line pressure pre-infusion when plumbed. Setting brew pressure is usually easier with the adjustment accessible from outside the maachine. In majority of vibe pump machines one must remove the case to access the OPV to adjust brew pressure. Rotary pump machines have of unencumbered brew water flow rates of ~10-11g/s while vibe pumps usually run at ~7-8g/s. Higher flow rates can be beneficial for some coffees. Marc

Hi BB, Sounds like someone is considering coming over to the artsy hobbyist side of espresso! Compared to the convenience of super-automatic machines there is a learning curve to more manual espresso preparation. It's not a perfect analogy, but semi-automatic espresso is a bit like baking. One has to get to know their equipment, control variables and also develop skills in coffee dosing, puck prep and milk frothing. None of those are rocket science but it does take some practice to be consistently successful. Most important is dialing in the grind size. Here's a video which covers that process: kzbin.info/www/bejne/oIC8aHdmZ9Nnedk For more exposure here's an excellent video on milk frothing for beginners which takes you right through to pouring latte art: kzbin.info/www/bejne/aoG2dKasbNCWgaM Watch those videos and if your comfortable with the techniques chances are you'll do fine! Hallo Mark - my spouse and I have opened our Bed & Breakfast…only just and do now require a sensible solution for procuring an espresso machine - for light commercial use, which won’t immediately induce bankruptcy! Lol I have been doing a good bit of research but continue to be in a muddle as to which direction of machine - home or commercial machine, might suit my small business well. I’ve looked into rentals by partnering with coffee distributors but each has pushed what they have - mostly capsule or pods machines which I continue to be reluctant to commit to because of known plastic waste and fraught of putting an inferior espresso/cappuccino et al in front of a paying guest! Might a sage such as you have any advice? I’m keen to know of actual real options of producing a premium final product - many thanks for advance
@Wholelattelovepage
@Wholelattelovepage 2 жыл бұрын
Hi t, Thanks for the question. I'd stay away from the capsule and pod machines for your stated reasons. Going commercial or home/domestic use machine comes down to volume of drinks served. If you're in the 10-15 drinks per hour you should be able to use a more domestic oriented machine. Bezzera has some options that are commercially rated (NSF/ETL) that are relatively inexpensive. If you're in the US have a look at the Bezzera BZ13. It's an upgrade to their Crema machine available elsewhere: www.wholelattelove.com/collections/semi-automatic-espresso-machines/products/bezzera-bz13-de-rosso If you're anticipating higher volumes then you'd be better off with a commercial machine or at the least a plumbable dual boiler machine featured in this video. Hope that helps! Marc

@Wholelattelovepage
@Wholelattelovepage 2 жыл бұрын
Hey Alex, Yes we can. In order to make that happen it would be best to phone or chat in your order. When placing the order let the sales rep know you want your machine setup to 9 bar and have them place that info in the shipping notes. I should mention that manufacturers like Rocket Espresso and Bezzera tend to set the OPV to 10-11 bar in order to provide a proper brew water flow rate in vibration pump machines like the Appartamento. If you do not like the 9 bar setting you could adjust yourself. It's a little tricky to do as the machine has to be opened up to make the change and the Appartamento does not have a brew pressure gauge. If you are considering the Apparatmento you might be interested in a video I posted today with our top 5 favorite heat exchange boiler machines of 2021. The Appartamento is in the list. Also covered in the video are the the Quick Mill Arnos which has PID, externally adjustable brew pressure and brew pressure gauge. The ECM Mechanika V Slim is in the video and it also has externally adjustable brew pressure and a brew pressure gauge. Both those machines are about the same price as the Apartamento. Hi TR, Thanks for the question. All the machines in this video are hand assembled in Italy or Germany. The Breville is factory made in Asia and is best considered an appliance and not a machine. It uses proprietary components, lots of plastic parts and scores low in user serviceability. But, the Breville products pack in a lot of features for the price. Just have to keep in mind its anticipated lifespan is much shorter. If/when something goes wrong with the Breville user repair is generally not an option while the machine grade products are very repairable. Hope that helps! Marc

Hi, first let me thank you for the very good video. I would have 2 questions: does the Profitec 700 has more steaming power than the ECM Synchronika? It has 1600W vs 1400W of power. Does tap water at 70 PPM is ok for these machines or we need RO water to avoid having to descale?
@marshallgoldberg8376
@marshallgoldberg8376 2 жыл бұрын
Patrice, I don’t have a comparison. But I own the Bezzera machine he mentions in the video and the steaming power is tremendous. It takes about ten seconds to steam milk, and that’s probably the same with both the Profitec and the ECM. The higher wattage may bring the water to temp faster (just a guess), but at least the four big machines here will have more than enough steam power. I don’t know about the small Profitec, but Marc probably knows.
@Wholelattelovepage
@Wholelattelovepage 2 жыл бұрын
Hi PM, Thanks for the kind comment and questions. The Pro 700 and Synchronika are essentially identical under the hood. The boilers are identical and both machines run the service/steam boiler at ~2 bar max pressure. 70ppm water is considered very soft and is unlikely to cause scale. Keep in mind TDS measures all dissolved solids so measures more than just calcium - the main culprit in scale. There are other water parameters like alkalinity and pH which play a role in determining scale potential. Pure zero TDS RO (or distilled) water should not be used in espresso machines. It's an incredibly good solvent - so good it can pull ions from metals causing corrosion. Beyond that, it over-extracts espresso causing bitter flavors and with no minerals taste is flat. Many commercial coffee shops do use RO systems to feed their espresso machines but they always re-mineralize water after RO treatment. Manufacturers of dual boiler machines recommend descaling only by a professional machine tech. The best option to protect equipment and flavor is to feed a machine with water which does not cause scale in the first place. For that use a filter using ion-exchange to replace calcium in water with magnesium. BWT has a number of ion-exchange filters which when used as directed provide the minerals needed for flavor but will not cause scale. Options include in-line plumbed in systems, pitcher filters and pad filters which drop in the reservoir. Marc

@Marshall Goldberg, Thanks for adding your experience with the Matrix. The 700 and Synchronika can reach a higher boiler pressure - for those newer to frothing they might want to turn down the temp a bit until they get technique down. The Pro 300 is a good steamer. It runs at a lower max pressure in a smaller boiler than the 700 and Synchronika so recovery will be slower after steaming large amounts of milk. Marc

Hi BA, Thanks for the comment. While the 700 does have a larger steam boiler the 600 is a very respectable steamer. What temp are you running in your service boiler? @Wholelattelovepage
@Wholelattelovepage 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Dave, Thanks for the question. The ECM Synchronika does not have programmable on time. It does have a programmable ECO mode which turns off the boilers and puts the machine in standby. ECO mode is programmable in 30 minute increments out to 600 minutes/10 hours after last extraction. Like other machines with a mechanical main power switch you can use something like a smart plug or appliance timer for programmable on/off capability. If you go that route be sure the timer is rated to handle the power draw of the Synchronika which is 11.6 amps (1400 watts) for North American version of the machine. Marc

Sadly I'm now commenting that I am canceling the order after an unbelievably terrible experience with 1.) having been shipped the wrong machine and 2.) being told I needed to return it for the right machine to be re-shipped (all that was missing were the wooden accents) then 3.) being misinformed (after I returned the wrong model) that the wooden accents are now backordered with no timeframe on returning to stock and that I could have kept the original incorrect version and they would have sent me the accents to self-install afterwards. I guess I could say 4.) the fact none of the 4 different customer service personnel I emailed and spoke with had a clue what the other was doing and being told it would ship "expedited" and still hasn't shipped. I thought this was going to be a home run experience and instead, it's been a complete strike out. Great videos - terrible customer support!

@Wholelattelovepage 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Andre, Thanks for the question. In general the more complex a machine is the more likely it will have an issue requiring service. Solenoid valves are a common problem area. Troubles with those are usually caused by water with high mineral content. Issues are preventable by treating/filtering water to a mineral level which is unlikely to cause scale. You want some minerals in the water for flavor, to prevent over-extraction and protect machines from corrosion. But, too many minerals will cause scale which can plug up components. Marc
