Big tip for people who want to provide their blue tongue a varied diet from the grocery store, get chicken organ meats. They love them, they're generally cheap, and they're very nutrient and protein dense.

I know this is a weird suggestion, but based on the hilarious end of video figure this would be the video to ask. There are a lot of videos about what you have to put into reptiles to keep them happy, but not what comes out. I think it would be really educational to have video on different reptiles and frequency and what is involved in clean up after them. How frequently do they poop, what is the unpleasantness factor because of that, how often do you have repair cage because they are curious about their cage and like to tear it apart. Can any be "potty trained". It is an aspect of husbandry I just never see addressed, but everyone should be prepared for.
@StonedtotheBones13 Жыл бұрын
Honestly really good question. I think I've seen snake discovery when the collection was at their house, feed once a week, around Saturday iirc. And around Tuesday or Wednesday, there's poop. 'Maybe it's a complement' is the reason I just subbed. Found your channel 3 weeks ago when we rescued a lost/abandoned White's Tree frog (1.5 inches) in our backyard. Organic gardens do pay off in so many ways. Big issue - we live in Canada + no way would this tiny one survive our fall let alone a winter. So we set up a very basic tank for it. It was probably very thankful to have climbed into the backyard of a family with a gardener, a tropical plant enthusiast and multiple fresh water fish aquariums. We were thankful for the cute timid little creature. Buying crickets was not an issue however I have given up feeding with tongs as I became a master at unintentional dismemberment of said crickets. My family thought I was dillusional when I heard noises from the tank that didn't resemble a frog croaking. We were making plans about DIYing a newer grander set up (as per your videos) and getting more tree frogs. Things are great. Yesterday, I wondered why our frog, now affectionately known as Pfizer, didn't appear to be growing. Did a new search on native frogs in our area. Turns out Pfizer is a mature Gray Tree Frog with the very distinctive call my ears had heard multiple times per day. They can look exactly like a White's - almost neon green when warm and on light coloured leaves. Initial Google search was dead wrong. He was released into a nice organic compost bin close to some bushes. He will survive our winter as he can apparently produce his own antifreeze. Big lesson - if we can successfully rescue a wild frog for 3 weeks, a domesticated variety should be a breeze. Plans for frog enclosure build of 40+ gallons this winter before finding our new White's. Thanks for your enthusiast sharing of knowledge.

I can say that I have kept my crested gecko, Widget, for the past 14 years on Pangea crested gecko diet with no problems. He really gets excited about their watermelon flavor, often coming right over to eat from the cup in my hand rather than waiting for me to place it in its cup holder. Widget did end up startled one night after catching a glimpse of my roommate's cat when the cat snuck into my room. Despite being in his terrarium and across the room from the cat, Widget voluntarily detached his tail, after which the amputated tail failed violently... I just happened to witness the entire thing. Crested tails don't regrow, but this isn't necessarily a bad thing as it prevents an uncommon spinal condition at the base of the tail. In Cresteds, the tail is more of a training wheel for juvies to prevent them from overshooting their jumps. I highly recommend blue-tongued skins. I had a grumpy rescue with a severe spinal deformity and a bad experience with neglect. I managed to tame him down and he even regained the use of his hind legs with proper care. They really are tough lizards and can be sweet snugglers with very expressive cuffs, huffy, and direct eye contact. They are very charismatic potatoes and neither their claws nor their bites do any severe damage. I have also successfully gotten my Nicaraguan blood boa (a boa imperator of a central American locality, thus stays smaller - comperable to a ball python) to take Reptilinks, a specialized sausage made for reptiles. The links are a little pricey and must be special ordered, but with a snake like a boa it still doesn't end up too expensive since they don't eat as often as a non-snake lizard species.

@ettinakitten50472 жыл бұрын
I've been breeding mealworms (hoping to start selling them soon) and they're super easy! They live in and eat a substrate of pretty much any grain, supplemented with fresh fruit or veggies for moisture. If you want to breed them, you need to keep them around 70F, which is probably warmer than room temperature but not crazy high, and if you get the temperature too low, they don't get sick or anything, just slow down. And they're bad at escaping and never aggressive.

I was hoping egg eating snakes would make the list. Tegu made my whole day.

Are you going to make a “the best pet isopod?” Series??
@demon.that.draws7773 жыл бұрын
Lol I love reptiles, they're pretty epic. I feel like mourning gekos would be a good addition to this list, there are interesting, incredibly easy to keep and do not eat live food.

@Secor Reptile I really like feeding them those too, it does help them nutritionally and gives them enrichment for sure, they definitely seemed to enjoy it. My only point in saying this is that it's not like life support that they have live food constantly. It's just good for enrichment and if you really love your pets and have the extra time and money, that's a great way to show your love, I agree 10000%

one of my biggest pet peeves is the stereotype that cresties don't need bugs 😬 they don't need a lot, but they do require some insects!

My blue tongue skink has an attitude! He hisses whenever I look at him, and doesn't like attention. He doesn't bite, but he does like to poop on me when I take him out. Once he's in my neck he's calm, but his attitude is fun XD

I really thought that beardie in the intro might fall off 😅

here cb blue tongues are kinda rare and somewhat expensive but they absolutely worth it..I may be a bit biased here but for me they are better than beardies
@Runninglizards3 жыл бұрын
I agree

If it wasn't for their price point blue tongues would be a better first pet reptile than bearded dragons pretty easily. They're significantly hardier and otherwise share almost all of the same positives aside from being everywhere.
@sampagano2053 жыл бұрын
I remember in one q&a that blue tongues were the closest runner up to the top 5 reptiles for beginners, and didn't make it just because they're expensive and the care differences between Australian and Indonesian blue tongues might be confusing to new keepers.
