The Carcosa is a very versatile choice. The switch in the middle btw is used to trim it for use with clean or dirty amps. And keep in mind that the Hi cut Pot is working counter clockwise. The second example made the pedal look far worse than it is. You gotta get a little into the interaction of the dials, or you get questionable sounds like this, sure.
@ThomannsGuitarsBasses4 жыл бұрын
You're absolutely right. The Carcosa is my personal favourite of the bunch tbh but as I said I just didn't have the time to go in depth on all of them so I had to cut out most of the points that showed the versatility of that pedal. // Guillaume

@@ThomannsGuitarsBasses @CGCEifel it does seem like almost endless possibilities of fuzz due to the combinations of each setting revealing such versatile ranges of tones and sonic properties. Would you recommend the carcosa for a 'blues metal/stoner metal' slowish but HEAVY blues that needs smoothness to the fuzz but a heavy heavy fuzz at the same time that you can add little licks between big power chords for example? Thought I'd ask as you have a lot of time with the pedal. Thanks in advance :)

@@NigelOdinson I guess i know what you are shooting for. For that kind of stuff it is absolutely capable. I like to combine it with a cheap TC Mini Spark Boost, that has a momentary switch (?!) for leadlines to get the extra bit of oomph. Not that it is neccessary at all. I recently changed my SG to a C# tuning and tried it again with the carcosa. Oh boy, Stoner Heaven 😁
@NigelOdinson Жыл бұрын
@@CGCEifel ohhh yeah that sounds ideal for some sweet stoner glory! Thanks for the reply, helps me make the decision to buy one which I could use different OD pedals with for some extra grit or tightness if needed like a booster too. I like using drop D and standard tunings when I write usually but have been playing with d standard and drop C... gon a try C# when my new shergold provocateur sp02-sd arrives as it will be the perfect guitar to do that and especially to pair with the carcosa!! Like a HH les Paul shape crossed with a tele cut off bridge and through body strung, but gibson scale length and 59' SDs, mahogany body and roasted mahogany bolt on neck for a very boutique feel and perfect stoner rock guitar. Designed by Mr Eggle. In dirty blonde which is a beaut of a guitar imo. Best LP type copy there is as it has some very differentiating things about it that aren't gibson synonymous but more fender like.

The SF-300 is an Octave Fuzz based on the Boss FZ-2. I don't like Octave. The best one I have that I like most so far is the Boss FZ-5. Just got the Fender Hammertone Fuzz. It's good and very close in sound to the FZ-5 but the Boss is better sound quality. The Fender has more highs for tone but less mids and bottom.

Carcosa is an awesome FUZZ! If you aren’t into experimenting, or don’t understand how the controls effect the sound...maybe not a first Fuzz fore-a for the Fuzz curious? Rusty Fuzz doesn’t have great definition? Can get swallowed up in a band context? Muff is a Muff, but again context? Muff’s have never really been my thing? They don’t work for me, unless you are putting them in a chain of effects? Pelt is interesting...would like to try it. Didn’t realize that it was under $100?

Budget Fuzz pedals ....... EXPENSIVE AMP + CAB. Yeah. The amp+cab is around $2000. I highly doubt someone who spends that much on an amp+cab is going to be looking for budget pedals. That would be like buying an expensive sports car and putting the cheapest gas + oil in it.
@stanislavmigra4 жыл бұрын
Yeaah, but no ... this amp specifiacly is very good at showing, what a pedal as really capable off. With budget amps, it might be hit or miss if it will work with any fuzz. Also I dont like that car/oil analogy, with proper amp, you might be surprised how good lot of cheap stuff is. It is not always, like you ruin the sound of your amp with cheap pedal in front (unless you buy MXR Fullbore Metal, then it dont make difference what amp you have, haha) :D
@erlannderrantem69724 жыл бұрын
When a pedal sounds shitty through a good amp and guitar, you know it is a shitty pedal. When you have a cheap guitar and/or a cheap amp, then either the amp or the guitar can make the pedal sound shitty and you don‘t know which one it is. That‘s how i see it!
@NigelOdinson Жыл бұрын
@@erlannderrantem6972 precisely- you wouldn't know whoch part of the chain was making it sound shitty. Atleast here the only possible shitty element that could arise is the variable, which is a budget peddle. Atleast you can hear what each pedal is capable of without thinking the amp or guitar is taking away from the sound that the pedal manufacturers painstakingly trialled to obtain in some cases.
@LeviBulger18 күн бұрын
That's not necessarily true. I would definitely say that the amplifier is the most important part of a guitar tone and that a guitar or pedal will only ever sound as good as the amp it's plugged into. But a circuit is a circuit and almost every overdrive pedal or fuzz pedal is based around just a handful of schematics. The differences are in components and the reliability of them. But tone-wise, a cheap clone of a vintage pedal will really not sound any different if the schematics are the same.
