Consumables are an “unsexy” gift but a solid gift for all the reasons mentioned. For people on Amazon you can share wish lists AND include a blank text page within your wishlist if what you want is not sold on Amazon or available for less somewhere else. I started down that road last month but decided against it, “allowing” the gift giver to just give it their best shot.

If you're buying for an amateur/home mechanic I'd add other consumables like grease, anti-seize, lube, disc brake cleaner, degreaser, blue-roll, nitrile gloves (check their workshop/shed to see what they use). Radar Labs grease syringes with the brush applicator are also great, if they haven't come across them they'll love them, if they already have some they'll always find a use for more.

Good list. Known consumables are usually good, but know what the person uses, if possible. If you give a gift card, you can also write in the card what you were thinking about (e.g. drill bits, driver bits, saw blades, batteries) if they are things best bought by the recipient (e.g. I use rechargeable batteries now, so that box of AA I might have liked ten years ago will now most likely sit until they leak).

People always ask if I am a cop. lol I bought a new expensive laptop but wanted to leave my old laptop in the case. I like Tenba cases which are about $200 so I finally found her something to buy me for Xmas. We were going to split on another Toto Washlet which is close to $2400 and worth every penny. She is with a medical group and not happy so she is leaving to open her own practice again, going solo. This is going to be mid to upper 6 figures so I said maybe we should hold off on the Toto this year. Wish you were in So. Fl. I would hire you to do the build out. Buying someone the consumables they already use on a daily basis in their job is a very weird idea for a "gift". I understand that people are uncomfortable with giving each other cash as a gift, and nowadays gift cards are treated as fiat, but you've said yourself this is basically giving them cash but veiled as a gift.
@MORGANSMaintenanceКүн бұрын
@@pubcollize essentially I’m saying get them something you know they can use… instead of attempting to get them a tool. Most people think they should get me a tool because that’s what I like more than anything… but it’s always better to get someone something they will use in my opinion, than a thing they won’t use but fits a category of what they like. With all these you still need to know the person. If you know the tool they have on their list get it… if you know where they spend their money, get a gift card. Me and my wife have the same money so cash is always silly for us. She is always looking for ways to get something for me that is something to open I can use. So that was the idea behind this. Cash works too though if that’s what someone wants to do.
