If I am not able to add plants in a breeding tank I will use an artificial vine that will fill up one side of the tank. Seems to have worked for my tanks for years now. I had rather use live plants but if I am going to be pulling fry on a regular basis I had rather have a plant I can pull out and put back in without damaging it.
@tjrbrownell5 жыл бұрын
Guppy grass works great too let it float instead of planting it creates a big mop for the fry also the benefits of helping cycle the tank.
@jlathem565 жыл бұрын
Yeah on the breeding tanks I have live plants in, I tend to use guppy grass. Both floating and planted but trimmed where there is only a couple inches high. It eats up a lot of nitrates. For me the only down side (and it's not much of them) is that some of the guppies tend to get pulled with the live grass when I pull it from the tank. Not a huge deal for 5 or 6 tanks taking only 6 or 7 minutes per tank to swish about the grass to get the fry out of it then net them and get them to the intended tanks. But when you have 30+ breeding tanks little things like this tends to eat up a fair amount of your time.
@MichaelsFishRoom4 жыл бұрын
You can also use the fake plastic easter grass.
@jlathem564 жыл бұрын
@@MichaelsFishRoom - Yeah I have use it when I can find it on clearance right after Easter. It's cheap and pretty much disposable too. For some reason in this farming community the local stores don't carry as much of the synthetic stuff. They seem to be selling the recycled paper grass. But I do get it when I can find it. Thanks Michael !

Ok I get what's in the kelp and krill, but what's in the cichlid food? I ask because mine get a wide variety of food and I don't want to miss any nutrients. Less than once per week on the fresh veg for water quality reasons.

Allow females to grow virgin for 5 months, which means separating them from their brothers and nephews within 3 weeks (or as soon as possible). When they are fully grown they will not die as quickly as when they are very young. Endlers and guppies often give birth to more than 20 young at a time, even if they are too young. As if a human teenager had to give birth to sextuplets...Its possible that they die after giving birth.

Hi Michael. About 4 minutes thirty you discuss omnivores, herbivores, and carnivores. At 3:15 you used Trex and Styracosaurus as examples of meat eaters. While Sty would eat meat the majority of their diet was low growing shrubs. I felt compelled to weigh in. Not trying to be a jackal, just wanted to make sure we are dispensing accurate info. I have a pretty nice guppy breeding project underway which is why I sought out the video. I subscribe to the KG Tropicals content which is how I came across your video. Appreciate you making these videos and sharing your experiences. I mostly deal in Cichlids, but am having fun with the guppy's rapid breeding cycle. The one drawback is having to add tanks to keep up with the fry🥺 Next project: 75 gallon with yellow labs and demasoni along with a syndotnis and zebra pleco. May try to order the stock online as the Madison, WI fish community is very underserved. Lost my fav aquarium shop to Covid. If you find yourself nearby our fish club meets the third Saturday of each month. Best regards - Greg.

I’m so sorry I won’t be back to watch you again. I don’t understand why you couldn’t just edit out all of your coughing? It was terrible to have to listen to you coughing and clearing your throat all the time. It grossed me out!

When I was about six my father started with guppies and other beautiful fish. I spent at least an hour every day watching the behavior of the fish and especially the guppies. As an adult I aim to breed a specific color and shape. I found the book 'Guppys' by Hans Luckmann very useful. I have been studying guppies for 55 years. And five years ago I saw homosexual behavior in male netgupping for the first time. That was very annoying, because I needed those guys to achieve my ideal. And I saw homosexual behavior at Endlers in the pet store last week. For safety's sake, I took a pair of a different breed. But unfortunately that male is also not interested in the female. Hopefully the female has been impregnated by another male. HOW DO GUPES BECOME/ARE HOMOPHIL?
