My best ever hazy was Amarillo, Galaxy, Mosaic and Vic Secret, roughly 0.7-1.0-0.7-1.0, fermented with Lallemand Koln for its biotransformative properties. Also had a lot of success with BRU-1, Idaho 7, Nectaron, Citra and Sabro over the years. The best single hop NEIPA I've made was ~400g of Strata, roughly 40/60 whirlpool/dry hop. Absolute passion fruit bomb.

Citra, Mosaic and Amarillo is my favorite 3 hop blend for a hazy. I also love doing Sabro and Cashmere for a coconut and lime IPA!
@jackieatkins70038 ай бұрын
I fluked that perfect combo when I first started home brewing about 4 years ago. I'll occasionally rotate another hop through depending on what I have on hand at the time. My top 5 are Galaxy, Mosaic, Citra, Cascade & El Dorado. I tried Sabro with Citra & Mosaic in a NEIPA recently. Initially I quite liked it but after about 2 weeks in the keg, the coconut notes started to get a bit much. I normally suck at picking out certain flavours and aromas, but Sabro hits me hard with coconut. About the only other hop that gives me very distinct notes, is Cascade with a strong cannabis aroma lol.

Just brewed one with Citra incognito, Simcoe, and Citra cryo in the whirlpool and nectaron, Citra cryo, and mosaic cryo in the dry hop at a total of 5lbs per barrel with the nectaron at about 50% of the dry hop. Still in the fermenter right now but it smells amazing. Can’t wait to see how it turns out.

There’s a relatively new hop from NZ called Superdellic. I used it in a 1:1:1 with Citra and Vic Secret and it really brings out the tropical flavours and its strong on berry, some fruit and floral notes. I’m going to try it again with Galaxy because I don’t think Vic Secret bought much to the party.

My go to hazy recipe has a combination of Citra, El Dorado, and Idaho 7 (in equal parts - save a "bittering addition" of Citra at 10 mins). Also a big fan of Mosaic, Simcoe, Amarillo in hazy ipas.

My best result up until now has been citra+mosaic+el dorado downplaying citra a little to avoid the garlicky/oniony notes that too much citra can bring (imho). Best result trying to get away from the same ole citra+mosaic+'x' has been nectaron+eclipse+rakau.

I'd try the new Styrian hops. Dragon, Wolf, Fox, etc. High AA and high fruit/berry flavors.
@ReaperUnreal10 ай бұрын
I've made a Micro NEIPA with Styrian Wolf, it's REALLY good. The strawberry notes are real, but it's not nearly as powerful as Sabro, so you have to be careful with the ratios.
@pmhartel10 ай бұрын
I love sabro in my NEIPAs. I dont get a crazy ammount of coconut but the hint it does have i think helps give that fuller "creamy" body that people go for with the style. Highly recommend! That said i think you could pick any 2 or 3 out of that hat at random and couldnt go wrong. What a time to be a brewer!

Nectaron is born to be a hazie hop. Not that it couldn’t work in others. But I brewed a “modern saison” with that hop and it tastes like a hazy ipa with the spices of the saison yeast 😅

I’m hoping to make my “house pale” a Pacific Ale style with Nectaron, Galaxy and anything else to make it an easy drinking tropical fruit ale. Great timing for this video to come out 👍 Local brewer Brewer’s Collective made their NEIPA version 3 with Superdelic, that was a great hop that apparently tastes like “red fruit” whatever that means

I just brewed a hazy with citra, mosaic and melba (only because I couldn't get galaxy at the time) after reading the same "cheat code" from YV - it truly is an awesome combo Definitely not a fan of sabro after using it a couple of times, the tangy, cedar character was just not something I particulary enjoyed

Interesting how hops have changed over the years. Citra when first released had a huge grapefruit flavor, now I barely get it. Lemondrop used to take lemon, now to me it takes like apple. My guess there was something in the soil that's no longer there or where they originally grew it. Or they grow it else where and the the sun or the soil is different causing different flavors.

Mosaic has so much garlic/onion I just can’t with that hop. It sticks out like a sore thumb when used too liberally (in equal or greater amounts to any other hop). It can give a decent background “dank” when used properly though.

I loooooove Amarillo in classic (err... clear) APA and IPA, but the few times I've used it in Hazy IPA, it doesn't seem to pack the same punch. That's not to say it's bad, it certainly is not, I just personally think some of the more pungent modern varieties fit the style better.
@Al-Brewster10 ай бұрын
@@Marshall_Brulosophythat makes sense, thanks "clearing" that up. I love Amarillo, and was just wondering if anyone had tried it in a hazy as most brewers tend to go for the usual suspects. I myself have never brewed a hazy as classic IPAs and stouts are my go to recipes to brew
