The slow cold crash lesson was the biggest one for me. I had no idea and was doing the same as you. Thank you JP! Cheers to another great year Martin. 🍻

Martin, thank you so much for your highly informative videos. You are the Myth Buster of Brewing. There is so much received wisdom out there on the internet, but not all of it is accurate.

When I returned to the hobby after a hiatus of about two years, I was pleasently surprised that Brülosophy had expanded to youtube! So my personal big change of this year is that I have had SO MANY episodes to catch up! This is an amazing present :) Also: Making such a video like this one to have a sort of summary of your personal development is a great reminder of what I myself might take away from your videos :) Cheers to you Martin, and your slightly confusing accent (disclaimer: I'm not a native speaker)

LOL I'm in Brit who has lived in the US for many years, which is probably the cause of the mid-Atlantic accent. Thanks for much for watching and your kind words.

Martin, glad you highlight the fact that IBU's as calculated by Brewfather and other softwares aren't accurate. But what is a home brewer supposed to do about it? Is there a separate video coming for this topic? Seems like it is important as IBU is something we all target, be it higher or lower. Thanks
@markluxton3402Күн бұрын
Go by taste?
@MartinKeen13 сағат бұрын
So far both batches of beer I've sent in for testing fell below expected IBU levels but by differing amounts, which makes it tricky to account for.

I think the term 'cold crashing' is at fault for wanting to chill the fermenter down to freezing in the shortest possible time. Low and slow is my go as well but only 2°C every 24 hours 😎

You have more patience than I 😀

I changed my cold crash procedure to the Palmer slow method after your video and I love the effect. It is worth waiting another ~3 days to get that gorgeous head. It helps that I also use my home automation system to do the stepping automatically with my Inkbird. I get the keg set up in my fermentation chamber, press a button on an app and it automatically steps down 1F every ~2.2 hours until it reaches about 34F.
@eduardogrifo9640Күн бұрын
Hi! That seems like a great setup! Would you mind giving some more details about it? I also own an inkbird and have an home assistant server running but I'm not really sure how to connect them both. Thank you!
@sgoadhouseКүн бұрын
@@eduardogrifo9640 Unfortunately, it is easier said than done. I have the Wifi Inkbird, but I have it paired with the Tuya Smart app instead of the Inkbird app. That is one of the keys to getting it to work. Then I use Home Assistant with the Tuya Integration. I followed a long set of instructions to create a free Tuya developer account so that HA can link to the Inkbird. Eventually, I got it to work but it easily took up an afternoon.

You blew my mind with the regulator vs spunding valve thing! I mean, retrospectively obvious, but I had not made that distinction!

I will be adopting the idea to not add a 60 min edition of hops to most of my lagers.

I think the Milwaukee ph meter compensates for temperature, does it not? It has a temperature probe built into it that you put in the wort alongside the ph probe. I've been using that for a while.
@grindlayforrest10910 сағат бұрын
I calibrate my pH meter every brew but my pH 4.0 reference solution is kept in the fridge at 6 degC. I cool my wort to about 20 degC before measuring pH, so will the ATC cope with this? It's a Kegland pH meter.
