I found the remains of one called Pachyrhizodus many years ago. UK Natural History Museum made a fuss about it at the time, but I asked them about it on a visit some years later, and was shown into a back room where it was still flaking away in a tray, apparently untouched since we rushed it to them from the clay pit, where I had, at first, mistaken its head for a large bivalve, as it had hit the sea sillt head first so it was oval in outline. After some scrabbling around where the clay scraping machines had been dragging scars over the old sea bed layers, we found a few vertebrae as well, but it all looked pretty flaky, and I was quite surprised at the excitement of the museum people!

Interesting how the ctenacanthiform sharks seem very similar in appearance to the modern frileld shark: they have a similar head- and bodyshape, and both even have multi-cusped teeth, though frilled sharks have multiple cusps of about the same length instead of one long and multiple short ones. They're not actually closely related, but frilled sharks are among the most basal sharks alive so they may retain traits from early true sharks that would have been more similar to their ctenacanth ancestors.

Cool video, thanks. Correction: Kaibab is being mispronounced. Narrator is enunciating "Kaibab" as kai-BOB. It's not 'bob.' Second syllable is pronounced as the sound of a bleating sheep with a 'b' on the end. So that makes it baa-b. Kaibaab.

2 months after this video was put up (April 2021) the Godzilla shark got its official name. Its official name is Dracopristis hoffmanorum. The first part of its name means “dragon shark” in Latin, and the latter hoffmanorum is a tribute to the Hoffman family that owns the quarry where the fossil was discovered.
