I love watching RyanLV not only cause he actually knows how to use regular Phoenix but his Chun Li is amazing. He actually fully master all of his 3 characters. All of them are a threat, not only Phoenix. Morrican, Chun Li and Phoenix are all a huge threat on their own.

7:42 i think he was trying to set up viper's charged focus attack (which is un-blockable) by doing a team super and hitting with focus attack, but he swapped into Amaterasu by mistake, and because of that his timing was off for the team super and got hit with the merry christmas. Also EX Thunder knuckle has I frames on start up, but he got hit out of it twice.

This tournament, not to take away from Mahvel hype, really made me realize how so much of DBFZ was kind of a spiritual successor to this game. So many systems are directly a response to the system mechanics of UMVC3. Sparking, the round starts, the way damage works, 2H, meter gain; all of things and more were evolutions of the concepts in this game, and it's really interesting being around for that conversation.

I wouldn't say an evolution lol, but yes I agree with you- DBfZ was even marketed on its reveal as a successor to UMvC3 for all those who were upset with MvC: Infinite and how the game moved away from all the functions of its predecessor.

I think the best part of the Ryan Dark Phoenix win is that it was totally fucking earned. Like, Dark Phoenix is a completely cheapo character, but RayRay totally zoned her out with Doom there and absolutely made it hell for him to get in. Having such perfect avoidance of projectiles and managing to get past the wall of shit coming her way to avoid chipdeath was insane. Maybe RayRay could've won if he did Doom's alternate Level 1 since she was directly above him, but honestly it was a 50/50 with how much Dark Phoenix was schmooving around the screen and he probably thought he was gonna catch her out with his finger beams. Incredible match!!

That Doom hyper (sphere flame) is punishable as its slow and you have a load of time to react to it; RyanLV would have telelported next to Doom and threw him (the punish Phoenix has for that hyper); throw animations are invincible in the game so he would have completely avoided it and landed a follow - up combo.

@@Yawdan That's true, I forgot that throws are invincible in this game. I guess the only thing he really could have done would be move out of the corner and try and put enough space to where his normal level 1 would have walled her out.

@@SunsetSullivan good strategy, but unfortunately Doom's hit boxes are extremely punishable. Also, the corner is the safest place against a Dark Phoenix as her teleoort doesn't cross up in the corner, so she can't approach you from behind. Plus Dark Phoenix puts out a lod of hit boxes on her own both in front and behind her) so it's hard for Doom- and most characters- to match her attacks. Just not a good match-up for Doom lol
