Nice video! Regarding gold coin there are no making charges. if NRIs want to buy gold for investment purpose we can buy gold coins and later convert it to jewelry. Also now a days digital gold is an option and SGB as a investment is very good option .

For US tax residents, investing in mutual funds outside the US is not a good idea. Mutual funds are considered Passive Foreign Investment Companies(PFIC) and are taxed at a very high rate unless you take a QEF(Qualified Electing Fund) election.

@@ArthiPrem practically what happens is with current 7.8% Inflation, and FD rate is around on average 6%. So its like who puts in FD will loose around 1% to 2% every year. Only thing us we don’t do much research. I think its good to have something in FD for emergency fund.. otherwise as investment, its not a good asset class. Its just my opinion and not anyway a financial advice

Yes she is considering as a NRI Because NRI status is defined as Non Resident Indian is a person who is not a resident of India. An individual is deemed to be a resident, if (A) Individual has resided in India in that year for 182 days or more or (B) Having within the 4 years preceding that year been in India for 365 days or more and is in India for 60 days or more in that year.

Gold Soverign bond issued by RBI is one of the best options. PPF- 15 yrs locked in period and you can take loan also. After 15 yrs you can extend for 5 more years locked in period with or without contribution.currently yearly contribution is 1.5L but there is a discussion going on to increase it to 3L. Will these accounts be considered for FBAR filing? Or only savings account amount?
