We moved from Canada down to Oregon a few months ago and I've always wanted a reef tank and knew our housing (first one) would be temporary, but I still wanted a reef tank so I settled for a 10 gallon DIY build, the plan was to not have any coral but still have 2 fish and a CuC, but I did go ahead and get a zoanthid frag just to see how well i can take care of a coral. We're moving in the next 3 months and it's going to be exciting because I plan on selling everything in this tank and starting over with a waterbox 65.4 AIO system, love the dimensions of it. I'm really excited and for anyone wondering if they should move their aquarium.. just dont, I know its painful but sell everything and start over. A bonus if you start over is you can make up a new aquascape, new tank, everything you want!

@@spinster4000 Why would I want to sell all my fish and frogs just because I’m moving? I’m attached to my gosh just as I am my 4 legged pets. I don’t have a lot so I know their personalities and they’re used to me as well. I could never imagine selling them all just to start over. Not to mention how expensive that is. I have put $400 into my setup in the past month and a half for just a 10 gallon tank not including the price of my fish.

I really want to move from my current location, but watching this video makes me dread the day it finally happens. Just the day and a few more. After I'm sure will be fine. I do plan on taking all my livestock with me, as I've done it once before and feel confident I can do it with minimal loss but it will be a terrible experience no doubt. I think the filter you are thinking of is not the magnum canister but a diatom filter which is even older but what was commonly used to polish water way back then. You don't keep a collection of antique gear?

I just moved my tank yesterday and had the worst time. We only have a 90g but moving the glass was the worse part. I accidentally chipped the front and now I'm just 💔. Its still usable but the beauty is gone. Also: window suction cups are a GREAT help!
@diacanthusreef3609
@diacanthusreef3609 4 жыл бұрын
If the dimensions are not prohibitively large to the point where anything extra will make transport through doorways impossible, I like to cover all sides will styrofoam wrapped with handheld packaging wrap on glass aquariums. If you're using suction cups, you can cut portholes in the styrofoam too. It's not gonna protect the tank if you decide to toss it everywhere like UPS seems to like to do, but small bumps are absorbed so you don't have to worry near as much about chips happening.
@KarnivorousKeyz
@KarnivorousKeyz 4 жыл бұрын
@@diacanthusreef3609 my first instinct was to use bubble wrap and Styrofoam with cut outs for the suction cups but the door frame was a bit too tight for it and then glass ended up chipped in the water removal process

@@NathansReef This may be a ridiculous question, but why don't more aquarium owners build their stands on casters? You can buy casters that hold 800+ lbs each for like 30 bucks. Use 6 of em. For a move like this, drain the water down 25%, unplug the cords, roll it on over, and reconnect. Would have been a 2hr job with 3 people and MUCH less stress on everybody/thing. Right?
@NathansReef

OH NO.... ive done this with a 13.5 evo..... no one really helped i got 99% of the house moved before moving the tank. once it was completely empty house i drained 60% of the water into a smaller Tupperware container and locked all the rocks in place sealed the top with some room if anything sloshed. used a tiny power head to keep flow going and a airwood grabbed the tank just with wet sadnd and left. "at the other house i had 15+ of each fresh and salt water * and i used all of it and still think i did use more. glad i was prepared. i dont wanna try a 55 or bigger. and move. plan is to build a tank with a house around it. not bothering with adding a tank to a house only to be unhappy.
