This subject is really hard and requires extensive research and kudos to your to bring such a comprehensive video. Healthcare really needs tech projects like PULSE because it connects medical databases and helps the customer and doctors make a lot of critical decisions faster that can save lives.

I imagine the best thing for a dermatology checkup would be stepping into a version of an airport scanner with complete privacy and no radiation, just a camera and lasers scanning your body 360 degrees and vertically. And then the computer AI zooms in on irregularities. That way privacy is still maintained. And then the database would come up with solutions. You might not even need a human supervisor if it reaches a smart enough level. Irregularities would be forwarded to specialists. You could even build it so it removes hair for you, if you want.

Thank you for your insightful comments on medicine of the future. I must say that it is undesirable for healthcare companies to have access to all of our personal information. Adjusting their premiums to suit a person’s medical history dehumanizes medicine. A sick person needs compassion as well as care. We need universal healthcare period!
@Medicalfuturist2 жыл бұрын
I assume you are US-based then. I have universal healthcare in my country and the quality of care is not better just because it's universal.
@DrKevinLowe2 жыл бұрын
@@Medicalfuturist Thank you for pointing that out to me. You are right I am based in the US, however, having a private healthcare system does not ensure a high level of care. I invite you to research infant mortality rates and average life expectancies in countries with an exclusively private healthcare system and compare them to those with a universal healthcare system. I think you’ll be surprised. And, let me ask a question: do people in your country go without medications they need because they can’t afford them? Or do they not go to the emergency room when they need to because they fear the subsequent bill? These are very real problems millions of people face.

I do believe in empowering patients, it's so important as medical error is the third leading cause of death and further maims 1 percent of the population a year. However tests are not reliable. For example UTI tests give false negatives 25 percent of the time. Ordering prescription's online maybe the way forward. For example Scotland dropped HIV rates by over 90 percent by allowing people to order prep online.

I'll just want to say while AI wont replace doctors, it will replace doctors that dont use AI, AND it will enable us to have less doctors while serving a greater number of people! i feel this is a very good thing and will happen in all labor fields, doing more with less. reducing labor requirements to free people. expanding access to healthcare. ALL GOOD THINGS! i welcome shorter work weeks and UBI. there's nothing to be feared from AI and robots taking your job. all the problems that arise from it are fictitious.

I agree that giving insurance companies access to everyone’s data could create the problems you described. However, I am OK with a company creating an insurance that targets healthy people and therefore gives them a discount, kind of like what we see with car insurers, there are some car insurance companies that only provide insurance to people perfect driving record. I would love to join a healthy user discount insurance company that only provides for people who eat well and exercise.

However, I believe that this will be quite wonderful in many ways such as in global medical emergencies or remote medical emergencies, and also help to multiply each doctor usage by using such a system to help train other doctors and nurses around the world as each doctor treats their patients were as trainees could try to watch and copy the main doctors who would just have to send data/information to their remote computers which would then be able to do the work for them all they would have to do would be to learn to operate their medical computers and have at least basic levels of medical degrees to become an operatie of such a medical service which would have to have approval from senior medical organizations sanctioned by the government.I think that in many cases such a machine could actually produce better medical care than human beings could due to the fact that an A.I. robot attached to the internet / via bluetooth would have every medical library and medical research note at its disposal to be able to work from and computers can remember and absorb so much more than a Human Brain can. However, I believe that there will also be many incidents where the Huan touch will be still needed and in fact cannot be done without I also believe that very soon when this starts that only rich people will be able to see Human doctors directly and I think that will be a great shame and failiure.

Mostly interested in AI going after fraud, abuse, corruption, discrimination, injustice, crime, inefficiency and bias. I'm okay with giving up some privacy to know our world not as criminal and incompetent. Repetitive, manual and knowledge jobs won't be safe, but just not as excited about that. Hard to see how all this wont trickle down into massive cost of living savings in the US. How does this not turn into efficient national healthcare? unlimited free education? food security for all?
