That's some great stuff Tyler. I have just recently added a permanent drop shot set-up to my arsenal and can't imagine not having one every time I go out. However, I'm definitely guilty of your first topic. I cast out and twitch that bait all the way back to the boat. I have had pretty good success with that....but what if smoothing that bait back to boat gets me more? I will definitely be trying that out the next time I'm on the water. Thanks! And also, thanks for jumping right into your topics. As someone who watches a lot of KZbin fishing videos, it drives me crazy when people spend the first 5 minutes of a 10 minute video telling people to subscribe and hit the like button, yadda, yadda, yadda. So I appreciate it when others jump right in like you're doing.

Drop shot with heavier weight can be advantageous when fish are aggressive and you want to get the bait down faster. Don’t remember the pro’s name but he was talking on the Smallmouth Crush podcast about how his power fishing with a drop shot worked and how he wanted to slam that bait to the bottom to trigger reaction bites, and he would only leave it there for a few seconds before retrieving and repeating. Most bites were on the initial drop. Anyway the point is there are exceptions to these “rules”

I keep a drop shot tied up all year round. Dedicated dobyns fury med light finesse rod always has a drop shot tied on. I agree 100% that too much action is a no-no. I usually throw it right up near grass lines or near cover where fish are being picky and let it sit. Once I learned to be patient and barely move that thing at all, I changed my dropshot game. Robo worms, some tini jackal plastics, etc.. work so so well.

Just started drop shotting. Wish I had started sooner. Margarita mutilator is 🔥🔥🔥
@Dropshot18 күн бұрын
Out here in Cali drop shotting is used A LOT. When the bite is good and they are biting a bit of action will work. But 90% of the time just letting it sit gets the bite. Or like you are saying just very subtle movements. The shaking thing just has never worked for me. Cool video. Less is better it's a game of patience. And like you said you are trying to get a fish to bite that won't eat anything else. Margarita mutilator is super popular color. I don't see why the weight would really matter. If you're shaking it, it doesn't make a difference. The weight will make it drop faster. Now if you're fishing around cover and it's moving and dropping the weight will matter. Not something I deal with here, but plausible as you said you noticed a difference. I like 1/4 I can feel the bait better, 3/16 is ok but 1/4 is my go to now.

When I started dropshotting was when I marked fish in 35'+. I didn't want a heavy weight to crash to the bottom, so I used...3/16. And I use 3/16 for everything from 10' to 40'. It can take 30-40 seconds to reach bottom so it wouldn't work in current.

Could be, if you are also not imparting much movement. If you are moving/dragging the bait a lot, that’s going to deter winter fish more than micro movements permitted by lighter weight.

Was co-angling a tournament this last weekend and my boater smokkkked me in the morning when we were both throwing similar baits on our dropshots. I started paying attention to what he was doing different and noticed he would just let it sit way longer than I ever would and he'd get bit during those long pauses over and over again. As soon as I slowed down I filled my bag and started culling. Honestly this is probably the same across a lot of techniques.
