@thehuguenot5615 my friends partner kept telling her he would kill us (her friends) and her family if she said anything and he abused her so bad she believed him. We finally managed to get her out on "holiday" to see her family, obviously she never came back, she had so many unhealed broken bones and when she told us the details of what he did to her is sounded more like torture. He broke her mind too. If you met him you wouldn't tell, he was a popular chef, tons of friends, everyone loved him. We only realised because she changed, bruises appeared and every story of where they came from was more unbelievable than the other.
@michaelboyle19839 ай бұрын
@thehuguenot5615 the last I heard the average response time for a 911 call was 6 minutes. A man can beat a woman or child to death in 6 minutes and that's using their hands. They can shoot a woman and child in less than a minute. So let's say he beats her, the child, or both. The police arrest him and he gets out of jail in a year, or less, he's very mad at her now and does it again but worse this time. This stuff happens more than you think. The police are not very much help in a situation like this without the woman being able to move, get a different vehicle, and change jobs so she can't be found when he gets out of jail. God bless you!

I like how dave immediately recommended going to her father for help. too often in our current culture we act like it isn't our families place to help protect us. but it is. A father has the right, and reponsibility to protect his daughter, and a brothers job is to protect his sister. Also the fact that he wouldn't take no for an answer, and got her help even though she didn't want it is commendable.

12:25 I've been with my husband for over 16 years. He's never been physically abusive, but Dave described his level of control over the money as toxic. He will always make me feel like I'm some out of control wife because I will sometimes buy one item instead of another (to save money for instance, or to try and make room for a little candy bar) without discussing it with him first. He will go bonkers and say he can never trust me. It's gotten really bad. I have long been in high anxiety if I ever get to go shopping for something. I mean there's having respect and consideration when making financial decisions, sure, but.... when you're a grown woman being treated like a child that can't be trusted or given any amount of grace for misunderstandings, then yeah, it's safe to say that amount of control is toxic. Most definitely.

This is so true. I could not go grocery shopping with him! A trip to the grocery store is very telling of control issues. He literally would control every item I picked up! Had to leave it was too much! 16 yrs, left with our three year old and one yr old. He threatened me that I’d never see my kids again if I left him!

My heart goes out to that first gal and so many others in the same/similar situations. It's so hard to get out of those, especially when the people around you are gaslighting you into thinking you're the problem... I hope she's better now
@Excalibur2 Жыл бұрын
I wonder if she was part of the problem, I just can't imagine the police coming by and not removing him otherwise.
@crowz6247 Жыл бұрын
@@Excalibur2 You have an unrealistic view of how police behave and what they can do. It's very common for them to show up and do nothing in domestic abuse situations for numerous reasons, including because they don't want to, because there's no immediate evidence of physical abuse, or because the victim doesn't follow through. It happens every day.
@Excalibur2 Жыл бұрын
@@crowz6247 it's possible, but in my experience, the policy for many departments is to remove the man for the day no matter what. I've also met maybe 3 pathological liars who will say anything to make themselves look good, while often being abusive themselves. I just don't trust anything when I only hear one side, and people will always tell the version that makes them look good.

I just moved to Toronto from Vancouver. Hearing Dave Ramsey say “buy a home, an inexpensive one, $200k” hurt my soul deep down 😂
@berniecelee50628 ай бұрын
LOL … NOWHERE in entire Canada, even east coast …you can’t buy a home for $200 K ! If there’s a region in USA that you can find a home to fit 4 kids and 1 adult …. Where is that ? If she moves there … is she leaving her family and friends to do that ? You still need a emotional support system , not just a team of advisors for tax , money, real estate , etc. nice boss to gift that much money . She needs to really spend some time in solitude to understand what she truly wants , what are her fears , and set goals . That could take her 12 -18 mths since it’s the first time in her life she’s going to learn and discover her own self.

Listening to his advice to the gentleman who is heavily in debt. I always wondered how in the heck people make money on rental properties. Everyone I know has had horrible deadbeat tenants, despite their due diligence in vetting them before hand. So many have absolutely vandalized the properties. One set a house on fire when she was being evicted after non-payment of rent for SIX MONTHS. How the heck does someone make REAL money on a rental?

For the lady who has anxiety and a 7yo... I can relate. A school job was perfect for me. At your daughter's school. At minimum you can be an instructional paraeducator and have the same hours as your daughter. You can start as a substitute until you get better... And your husband can get a better job. Then dump all your school income into the student loans... Its hard but you will do it!

I wish someone that had done this kind of thing for me when I was in the situation of the first caller. I also wish I was smart enough to make this kind of move instead of covering for my ex. I am out of it now, but it took some of the worst things possible to make it happen. I am now working on the Ramsey method to get myself set financially for my future. It sucks to have that kind of thing going on in your life and feel stuck.
