I am a cis-gendered man, and let me tell you about facial hair. I couldn't grow a beard well into my 20s. Until my early 30s, I didn't need to shave more than once a week, and I didn't need to shave daily until my mid-40s. Even now, around my mouth, one side of my beard is narrower/thinner in one spot than the same place on the other side of my face. So yeah, as Aydian says, every man [cis or trans] is different when it comes to body-hair and how much will grow how fast. [Though keep this in mind: If you start growing more body hair as you age, in places you never expected, don't be shocked. This is something that cis-men learn/hear/are told to expect as the decades pass. No clue if this is a testosterone thing or a y-chromosome thing. Ask middle-aged transguys for advice on this one. ]

My experience with testosterone was quite interesting in that I WAS a very angry person pre-t but now I'll be 3 years on hormones this year and I can honestly say I have really calmed down more instead of being angry and it's because I am finally starting to feel align with myself so I am more comfortable with myself and a lot happier. All of my friends and family see the change in me as well.

If I'm truly honest, I was a very unhappy and angry person prior to transition. Looking back, I think it was mostly due to feeling so unhappy in my body, and for not being seen for who I truly was. This year marks 6 years on T for me, and I'm a very peaceful and relaxed person!

Good vid. I’ve been on T 2 1/2 years, starting in (gasp) my sixties. For the first time in decades I had acne breakouts especially on my scalp and forehead. The problem with my scalp is that I also work at a labor intensive job so my scalp is oily by the end of my shift. Thus the scalp acne. On the plus side, with lifting many dishes all day, my upper arms and chest have added a nice bonus of muscle growth, visible without rolling up my sleeves to show it off💪🏻.

It's been really interesting with my experience on testosterone. I was really emotionally unstable before it because I have bipolar disorder and bad anxiety, and a few other psychiatric issues. I had trouble controlling my anger and I was always getting so easily upset over everything. After being on T for almost 6 months now, I'm so calm. I feel more emotionally leveled out, I handle my anger and emotions much better in general, and I've had less manic/depressive episodes than I have since my diagnosis of bipolar disorder. I have HORRIBLE social anxiety and it has made me a hermit a lot of my life, and even though it's still there, I feel like I can work past it in ways I couldn't make myself do before. My psychiatrist was pleasantly surprised at how much T has stabilized me. As for the other stuff in the video, I'm SUPER hairy. Like, I can grow a decent goatee and mustache. Everything else is still peach fuzz on my face. As for acne, I had it really bad on my forehead as a teen, but I actually haven't had a problem with acne on T so far. I already have naturally very oily skin on my face though, so maybe that has something to do with it. An interesting thing that not many trans videos cover though, is the rise in red blood cell count. My psych didn't know what it was until my doctor said they seemed high because it was a normal range for a male, and I was still marked as female for the testing. It's been determined that they're high, but in the safe normal range still. Generally though, T has probably saved my life. Now I just have to get my insurance company to stop fighting me about top surgery.

Shane Blackheart finally!!! Someone else who has experienced a calm while on T! Thank you thank you thank you!!! I live with Bipolar, social anxiety, ptsd, and depression. I was really nervous about starting T. The difference in my emotional stability occurred the first week. Everything that used to amp me up, (anger and depression wise) no longer does. I get mad. I get sad. But it's way calmer. The intensity has decreased dramatically. I can handle crowds a little better. My kids have, happily, noticed the difference. It's an incredible experience. But, everyone I've talked to seems shocked that it calms me... So, I was starting to feel a bit isolated in my experience. It feels good to know I'm not alone.

Thank you for doing this video. It's nice to know that what I'm going through is considered normal. I was just telling a fellow commenter that I live with Bipolar, social anxiety, ptsd, and depression. My emotions have always been felt at a heightened level. Not ideal for me. Lol... I started T almost a month ago. The intensity of my emotions calmed down the first week. My kids were the first to notice it. It does make me want to cry because I've never felt emotions on a even keel before. I've been in and out of counseling most of my life (I highly recommend it). Each one teaching me new skills while others helped refine them. It's nice to feel like my emotions are under control....... As for the acne. Omg.. I laugh when I look in the mirror. My breakout is all along my jawline. I'll look into dollar shave. I'm trying to find a regime that will work that I'm not allergic to. 😁

Regarding hair loss, some of the commercially available home DNA tests, like Ancestry or 23 and Me, have a traits feature that you can pay for to show you, among other things, your genetic risk for male pattern baldness. I'm non-binary and taking a lower dose of T, but I'm at high genetic risk for male pattern baldness, so it's one of the things I'm keeping an eye on with regard to working with my endocrinologist on my dosage to balance what I need to help masculinize my voice and appearance vs not wanting to lose a lot of the hair on my head like the men in my mother's family have all done. Conversely, I'm naturally hirsute when it comes to facial hair, chest hair, and other body hair, and I was already shaving my face almost daily for a good two decades before I started T, so I'm also trying to balance that out and not become a total bear with hair everywhere while still needing some of the other changes T provides.

so I'm a little over 4 weeks on T and I have lost a lot of inches; HOWEVER, previously I was on depovera to stop periods before I ever got on T. On this medication, I gained 15 pounds. I tried to be really strict with myself for 6 months on depo, but to no avail; So then I just gave up trying and wasn't as active or health conscious in foods. (also what I was doing made me lethargic, starving all the time, and increased my chronic pain). When I got on T, (even right before, like 3 days before) I saw this as another opportunity to try to get into shape again. After all, I'm not on depo anymore and T can either help you lose weight more easily or you can gain just as easily. (At least, that's what I've heard). I also knew about the "T hunger" and I didn't want to have junkfood around and be eating 10,000 cals in one sitting. So, I got rid of junkfood and built up to walking 2 miles a day again. I've been eating healthy and being active; By the 4th week I've noticed that I lost a lot of inches, and I am now *almost* the size I was before depo. I do think T played a part, it has let me get a bit stronger and have more energy and endurance. But I also think the consistency and work I've put in helped as well. And not being on that damn med. All this is to say, you can lose weight on T if you have a bit of extra weight before hand, if you work at it. But this is the very beginning for me so I could gain some weight back.

I'm non binary looking to go on low dose T, and my one insecurity about going on a low dose is bottom growth

thank you so much about this video. I'm going text moth to complete my exploration of my Trans treatments (tests etc.) to get "diagnosed". I come from Eating Disorder background so this is really important to me (mostly because of the body dysmorphia)

I’m really happy that I’m Italian and my dad has a lot of hair so I know probably more than likely I’ll be able to get a beard I already have a little mustache on my first year currently.

I'm a trans man who has been on testosterone for 15 years. The commentary on anger is not good advice. If you have enough anger pre T to punch a wall, your emotions are un/disregulated. You need support to help get regulated. This doesn't mean you shouldn't take T! It just means you need to try and find people who can help you express your anger in healthy ways. If you think you are an angry person and are pre T, consider going to FTM support groups to talk about it, find a therapist, or get free or cheap therapy from someone in therapy school. Dont just gamble on T making you more chill!

Not to sound weird or anything but when does bottom growth normally stop or at lest when did it stop for you?

Great video. I am now 5 days on gel & I was curious if you have talked to any older ftm’s? I will be 51 next month & I am wondering if I will be able to add muscle mass or if it will continue to be difficult the older I get. Thx

I started a little later in my life and I noticed gel was slow and weak for me. I found it easier to build muscle on high amounts of t on shots, but I had to stop because the Dr. said my levels were out of control
@justusk9135 жыл бұрын
I started T 6 months ago at age 56 I have found that it has helped me build muscle a lot faster. I don’t use the gel, I use the shots of T once a week. I also work out 5 days a week.

Can I ask how much your gel is? (I keep almost blacking out after my shots, idk why, so I'm considering switching to the gel)

I think that has to do with the water retention he mentioned in this video. I know it happens to me.

I was expecting to get lucky to get 1CM, my partner and I are perfectly fine with a "micro" little man down there, so if I could get even 2, that would be incredible, let alone 3CM. I'm curious about the bottom growth change, and the facial hair growth, mostly. If I get acne I'll talk to my trans doctor who said they can help me treat it, but I'm doing gel not injections so I'm curious how that will impact how much/where I get acne. I never got acne while growing up so maybe I'll finally feel like I went through a puberty since I apparently missed mine. XD

When I started T, I also went off of birth control. I was also already obese, so I ended up losing roughly 8lbs. If youre on bc, you'll mostly lose weight when you go off because it makes you retain water weight

You said it makes the things you feel more stronger. So if the person is very sensitive could they get emotional even easier? Or does the testosterone instead "help" with that so they won't cry as easily?
@ShaneBlackheart5 жыл бұрын
Honestly, T made me calmer. Before T, I was very emotionally unstable due to having a mood disorder, but after being on T for 5 months, it stabilized me and I don't react as strongly, so it was the opposite for me.
@RiverofSouls5 жыл бұрын
I have been on T for 2 years. I still cry just as easy as when I was a girl. Nothing changed as far as who I am. I am still emotionally sensitive. Some things are just a solid part of us no matter what hormone we take.
@torrinashley60765 жыл бұрын
I got more emotional and affectionate on T. But it was harder to cry for a while. Then it became normal and I can cry just as easily as I was able to before. I no longer feel like crying and physically not being able to.
@thatqueerkid38345 жыл бұрын
I got so much calmer on T, and overall my emotions have evened out a lot. I can still cry but before T my emotions were all over the place and now they are more mellow and not like a rollercoaster

I know I had lost weight when I started and then after my third month, I was able to gain again.
@hxlywatershed25 жыл бұрын
its normal to have weight loss or weight gain, but tbh if youre 3 weeks on and losing it probably isnt the t thats doing it, t doesnt usually kick in until around 3 months
