That line thru rig is sick ! Do you think it would be as effective if you did a Line thru with the treble on top so it doesn't snag on the bottom, almost like a butch brown rig?

I’ve also recently used a 5/0 straight hook, Texas rigged, to get the hook deeper or further down the back/tail of the swimbait. I’ve noticed a better hook-up ratio on 3.5 inch Baits vs the 5 inch, but I think the hook being further back towards the tail will help. Great video! Thanks!
@brnowak_fishing7 жыл бұрын
That’s a good point! Especially when those fish just grab the bait, it’d be perfect for getting them hooked. I’m of the mindset of using the smaller hooks just to try and maximize action

The power of this particular style of swimbait is awesome. I use longer rivets and eliminate the need for two. Also these paddle tails work phenomenal on a hack attack (or any other) jig in cover. I believe it was a Davie Hite thing fishing heavy current where I first saw the last tip. Always solid information here without feeling like I'm watching an infomercial.
@charlievthetuna7 жыл бұрын
I use the red wd-40 red straws. The rivets fit over the straw size. I superglue the top rivet head to the red straw. Making for quicker rigging. You can add a weight to it also if desired. The red line doesn't hurt the appearance either.

We use plastic sleeving from Lowe's to make the line thru with one rivet instead of 2. Also a treble and have little issue with wobbles and use up to 1/2oz weight

Top tip with the DIY line through tip would work for any size swim bait's other than small one's were it might not be possible to get a rivet through without ripping it up.
@taylorschneider41158 жыл бұрын
I use a coffee stir straw to get the line though the bait and use a tungsten bullet weight inside the bait but have it facing backwards so front end of the bullet weight is upside down works really well with hollow belly baits that have a slight in them.
@brnowak_fishing8 жыл бұрын
I'm thinking I've gotta try these coffee stir sticks - How do you keep them from pulling out? The tungsten weight in a hollow body is a great idea! Some companies are doing similar things with body weighted swimbait hooks. I'll definitely have to try this one

Hey Ben. I understand if your busy so dont worry if you can't get around to me but I've been struggling. I watch and research A TON on smallmouth and bass fishing and my dad and I come up to lake St Claire from both the 9mile side as well as the northern side and our fishing trips are underwhelming. I tried a variety of the swimbait rigs in this video, the good old green pumpkin tube, some dropshotting, crankbaits, looked for good areas, made sure we are at the right depth. Barley caught 2 Smallies in the 7 hour period. And it's just been that way. My dad says it's cause we are in the "dog days" of fishing in August but I'm not buying it. Any areas or spots in particular youd go to at St. Clair? If you were going out on St. Clair (which I've seen your awesome video when you did) where would you go and what would you look for? I understand how lengthy this is so don't worry if you can't respond I'd just thought I'd try. Keep up the quality content!

I also use coffee straws, I rarely have a swim bait get ripped up cause it moves easily up the line and the Bass has no leverage to throw the hook. I put a piece of metal in the straw and just push it through ,slide out the metal cut the straw flush ,then rig it how you want. any questions?

Hey Benjamin, I think it's important to point out that the rivet bearings should be checked to make sure there's not a sharp edge on the inside radius where the line goes through. It could cause a fray and line break at a very bad time... I'm sure you know what I mean. I have done similar things when modifying baits with a clear spray tube from a bottle of brake parts cleaner, then remove the edge with an exacto knife.
@brnowak_fishing8 жыл бұрын
That's a great point. That's something that I think could be overlooked but is super critical

I use a Capri sun straws shove it in the bait then cut off leaving about an 1/8 long out the front and back and haven't had bad ripping problems I have tried running them like a drop shot to keep them from spinning it works but I felt like I was losing out on bites from having a ball hanging
@brnowak_fishing8 жыл бұрын
Hmmm - so trying to rig it similar to a jika rig or something? That's a good idea to keep it keel weighted plus then the weight could move freely. I wonder if you upsized the hook if it'd help too, run a 1/0 or even a 1 to put a bigger hook in the back of the bait?
@davidbeaver13503 жыл бұрын
Ok I have a question about the whole double sleeve and tying the pin to the line in a somewhat complicated deal to push the line through the bait and then come in with a sleeve from each side when you could just use the pin to make the pilot hole push the sleeve through back it out 80-90% of the way hit it with a couple drops of super glue at each end push it back in and boom 💥🤯 your done with the whole set up in about 30 seconds... Iif I'm missing something as to why your wanting two sleeves other then length and or wanting a fat end on both sides, I can't see a reason to do it that way ,. I can be incredibly smart at times and just as dense at others so I if I missed it then enlighten me thanks fyi q-tips the plastic ones or stir sticks work well too not as suitable as the pop Ribbit sleeve but easier access for sure thanks

All of the baits shown here are the Bass Magnet Lures ShiftR shad which you can get from their website - link in the description or these techniques will also work with the same style of baits that some other companies make as well that you can find online or in your tackle stores

Hey ben why don't you just push a coffee stir stick though it to make a line though. You know the ones Iam talking about I think that it would work real well and you only have to push it though or in once. They are real thin straws
@brnowak_fishing8 жыл бұрын
Hey Jeff - the biggest benefit of the rivets are that they help hold the bait together and keep the line from cutting into the plastic. I've never tried it but heard of guys using pens or hollow tubes but the bait tends to rip a bit more apparently. I'm thinking of using a longer rivet for the front and a shorter for the back, but I'm still playing around with it

Hey Ben I’ve got some 6th sense 1/4 oz swimbait heads pairing up with some 3.8 or 4 inch(can’t remember which) kietechs and I can’t seem to keep them running true they keep tilting to the side on me. Am I doing something wrong
@tonybadr65335 жыл бұрын
Brett Barr they came out with the 4.8 kietech they run great. But just a shot in the dark but you may have line twist. Causing your bait to spin. Just a thought if you use a spinning rod. Look up how to get your line untwisted and how to load your reel. I just found this out myself the spool should be sideways. And coming off the spool the same way it lays in your reel. Think of a Slinky or spring going towards your reel as you retrieve it. The videos will do you more justice.

There's a lot easier way to attach a treble to a swimbait. Just use an offset worm hook, rig it traditional Texas rig but before you insert the hook back into the bait, slide your treble on the offset hook and let it ride in the bend of the hook. Then insert the worm hook into the bait and thru it. Finally, insert the top barb of your treble hook into the tail of the bait. I'll be honest, this is only useful for short striking fish in open water (not weed friendly)
@tracyturner59776 жыл бұрын
I just add a small treble hook to jighead hook and insert into belly.

the cheapest way to make a chatter bait is to take a tap from any monster or rip it drinks or any tap off a can buy color is better and take a tap- sucker plastic stick-straw and the little hole where you popped off the cap take little segament and shove threw cut alittle off each end and take a lighter and melt them not to much just the tips on both sides and thiers your chatter blade now add it to the way you did that line threw paddle tail and watch it work holy crap it works so awsome that I'd rather make them then pay 12-14 dollars bam thiers your tip on showing the fish different things than the crowd. good luck and lmk how it works for yourself.

Caution putting any tackle in your mouth. They can contain some nasty plastics or other chemicals you do not want in your bloodstream. Notice how many of them have prop 15 warnings or other warnings on the packaging. And you might have dust of other tackle like lead on your fingers. Just a safety suggestion. Even if you feel fine, it can contribute to brain damage after doing it for years and years. I could be wrong but I feel better safe than sorry, just trying to help. Also, Minnesota DNR recommends avoiding lead for environmental reasons. I use tungsten jig heads.
