Excellent point on proper warm up. I'm guilty of ceremoniously dinking with poor form for a few minutes before starting the first game. I hadn't really thought about that. I should use this opportunity to calibrate my posture and coordination, not necessarily my touch.

Absolutely! Once properly physically warmed up as described, I like to warmup with my partner hitting balls from the kitchen line with myself stuck in mid court trying to play defense only. Then warming up dinks after a bit of this drill. This seems to correct the habit of “lazy dinking” until the march starts 🤣

Hi Dustin, your videos are great and I've subscribed. I like how you go into great levels of detail including mechanics, physiology and the mental approach. As someone coming from a competitive level in other sports, your teaching approach resonates well. That clip of you in your day job with the racket is hilarious. Glad you're having fun with this. Iam beginner in pickleball from tennis background..I liked your video but one thing is so,confusing was those blue & red cones placements...Are they placed for th balls coming to you or do we have to imagine those cones on opposite kitchen where we need to place the ball by dinking?? Please let me know thanks!!

I'd like to hear if you recommend the grip you use that extends the index finger onto the paddle face rather than wrapping it around. How does that affect your backhand? What percentage of top players also use this grip? Mark
@Pickleball_Health
@Pickleball_Health 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the great question Mark! I don’t recommend putting a finger on the actual paddle face, because I do not recommend holding the paddle that high (loses some of the leverage built into the paddle for added power). BUT if coming from table tennis and that’s significantly more comfortable then I would say go for it as being comfortable with what you know and love will play better than making a small changes. 💪 I hold the paddle at the end but I have experimented with the finger along the handle. I actually liked it a lot but felt it hindered my mobility during bigger drives so I ultimately don’t use it but I did for a while and liked it for the control at the kitchen especially on backhand dinks. 👍

Haha true! It’s funny that we also call it a Kitchen! I don’t see any food! 😂 🍔
@netplayer23
@netplayer23 Жыл бұрын
Accurate, but it’s hard to beat colloquialisms! Like in tennis, players refer to the “backhand side” or “forehand side” instead of “deuce court” or “ad court”. I’m new to pb from tennis and I would have found the “kitchen” rules much easier to learn if they had called it the “no volley zone”! One can step into the kitchen or camp out there as long as they let the ball bounce before hitting it!
