@@WickensWickedReptiles to be honest I have always been a fan of collecting toads in the yard after it rains I always want to pick up the frogs I wouldn't keep them I would basically treat it like collecting fireflies I would see how many I could get before I went in for the night then I release them but you know at one point when I was living with my dad at this one house that I lived in for I don't know from about the time I was 11 to my early twenties or something there was a particular type of frog I would always catch in the backyard that I haven't seen hardly at all since then I would catch like a dozen of them after it rained most days but it's years in between seeing them now I heard they were to the point where they're losing some of their natural habitat they're regionally endangered I think like certain patches of them are getting rare and I always thought that was ridiculous cuz I saw them all over the place but I hardly ever see them anymore last time I saw one was on my porch or right next to my porch between the trash can and the recycling bin like I don't know four or five years ago I picked it up with one hand took a picture with my phone with the other and put it back cuz I was like I haven't seen one of these since I was a kid so I guess they are regionally endangered because it's just hard to find them anymore I mean I know I've heard of things being endangered in certain pockets of their natural habitat or going regionally extinct like certain varieties of cougar have gone extinct in this patcher that patch and they no longer have all their wild pockets interacting so there's less genetic diversity in whatever which will hurt their populations even more cuz they'll be inbred I used to watch a lot of animal planet or not animal planet per se cuz I didn't have cable when I was a kid but got that in my 20s but I was always watching nature shows on PBS and stuff like that I remember the day before I turn 30 I went to the local zoo with my dad and they had a type of horse there that was extinct in the wild and it's native range until it was bread in captivity enough that they were able to release a herd back into its native range which apparently is still doing okay I'm 40 now so hopefully they've released some more because one little population from captive horses won't really help them completely recover unless they put some more out for the genetic diversity cuz you know cheetahs have had such a rough time of it that they are pretty much all severely inbred

I keep both a Colorado River Toad and a Cane Toad! CRTs are a lot bolder and more personable than most other toads. Cane toads are naturally very shy and will hide all the time without a ton of socialization work. CRTs will eat out of your hand (if you don’t milk them- that process is super super stressful on the poor animal) and will be visible most of the time! Also, cane toads will go on hunger strikes due to stress, where CRTs are easier-going on the whole. 7in is a bit of an optimistic estimate for CRTs; they’re usually closer to 5 unless you’ve got a big female. Big females can get to 7in.

P.S. I DO have a poisonous pet--my one-eyed, 3.5-footed common toad, Oadi (the Toadi). I got her almost 2.5 yrs ago when my neighbor hit her w/ a weed whacker, knocking out her left eye, slicing off 1/2 of her frt rt foot, and paralyzing her tongue. She's a tough little cookie to have lived thru such trauma--when I went to pick her up after it happened, she was clearly in shock, not even moving. She is fascinating to watch, the way she climbs and stalks around her enclosure, digs little "hobbit holes" in her moss, and sometimes buries herself up to her eyeballs in her soil pot. I had no idea common toads were so interactive, inquisitive, and acrobatic!

Yeah I knew about the "colorado River toad". They are very sacred for the Com'caac (Seri). They are one of the locals in Sonora Mx, who have been victims of one of the most massive genocides ever. That's why they are now left to be less than 1000 ppl. They do live in Socaiix (or "punta Chueca") and el Desemboque. I do have friends who are, and there is so much more to learn about their culture and language (cmiique itom). They are generally compared to Apaches and Lakotas for their fierce resistance. But yes, they do make money out of the many who go there just for the road, and do make cleansing rituals. I'd highly suggest to listen to one Com'caac band, Hamac Caziim (sacred fire), who actually interpret sacred Com'caac songs with a metal sauce. Especially "Baico Baico", the song of the giants. Also Zara Monroy, a feminist com'caac raper and activist.

I enjoy the details. I like getting into the weeds. I would love more longer videos that go really into some of the science behind some of the herps you talk ab

I’m planning to get a trio of Dendrobates Leucomelas for my 29 gallon terrarium. I currently have two Fire Bellied Toads, very active and colorful.
