First actually useful set of exercises that cover all muscles involved in the popup. Most neglect hip rotation.

Not sure what I'm doing wrong, bit I'm unable to register on your site. The focus on hip flexion and rotation is what I've been missing following a series of surgeries. Hopefully it will get me back in the peak. Thank you.

Hi Jim! Not sure why you’re having trouble registering but perhaps try in an incognito window or another browser (eg, try safari as well as chrome). This sometimes fixes the issue. If not, feel free to hit the contact button at the bottom of the page and I’ll help you further. Best regards, Michelle

I find for pop up training is best to lie on a bed with your feet hanging off the end. Then pop up. The mattress obviously makes it harder and having your feet off the bed is more realistic for shortboarders

Thanks Ryan! I am not a surf technique coach but get in touch with Martin Dunn, he is the bomb. He also offers online video analysis so can be very specific for you. Best of luck! www.martindunn.com.au/

Reach slightly further back (than you do now) when you grab the rails to get up. Where your hands are, orients the way your body gets to standing position. Eg, on big-wave guns we have to reach quite a bit further back to get back on the longer board. Experiment with different length boards if you can.

Wrong position of back foot when popup - should be lean on the whole foot (or edge), but not on the toe.
